www.oxfordstudent.com/2020/10/09/students-call-for-university-action-against-transphobic-professors/

'More than 500 students and alumni at Oxford have come together to sign an open letter condemning “two professors with a history of transphobia”.

The letter expresses disappointment and distress over the controversial appointment of professors Selina Todd and Senia Paseta to lead a new programme on Women’s Equality and Inequality at the Oxford Martin School. Accusing the Martin School of ‘tacitly sanction(ing)’ the views of Professor Todd and Professor Paseta, the signatories raises concerns about a “hostile and exclusionary environment”.'

The students who signed that letter should be kicked out for their lack of critical thinking ability.

highame · 11/10/2020 11:09

I always thought Oxford took the very best thinkers, perhaps their standards have slipped.

talesofginza · 11/10/2020 11:12

Aren't Oxford students meant to be bright?

"The new initiative on women’s equality and inequality which the two professors will lead officially aims to “eradicate educational and economic inequality for women around the world”. "

Apparently before we start dealing with the macro-aggressions against women and girls around the world of being deprived of education, FGM, trafficking etc, we should really deal with the burning injustice of micro-aggressions like 'misgendering' in the developed world. Because men are the most marginalized women, after all.

"Zaman Keinath-Esmail (she/her), who created the open letter alongside two other students, has said that “we are not no-platforming anyone…"

Bullshit.

Kit19 · 11/10/2020 11:14

They really are a bunch of nasty arebt they

We don’t want to no platform anyone - it’s just we only want people who agree with us to be given jobs

Whatwouldscullydo · 11/10/2020 11:15

We used to have discussions in high school where everyone could discuss even opposing view points and listen to eachother with out storming out or insulting eachother. Now young adults can't even do something 12 year olds were cable of even when supposedly bright enough to go to Oxford.

Its embarrassing.

Truly.

Kit19 · 11/10/2020 11:16

Bravely the ‘open letter’ cannot be viewed

FindTheTruth · 11/10/2020 11:56

The author Robert Maclilraith reminds me of Benjamin Butterworth and Owen Jones. He talks about MSMs (men who have sex with men) and male spaces, yet cancels Prof's Selina, Senia and JKR for protecting women's spaces. The sexism in his opinion pieces .... 'men are men' whilst 'women are cis women', standing up for womens rights is an 'alt-right' attack and he demands that 'professors with a history of transphobic views (as defined by Trans Actual UK) not be given student-facing roles' . Looking at Trans Actual UK, it seems their definition of a 'transphobe' is anyone who raises a concern - people who raise concerns are haters, fascists and stochastic terrorists.

RoyalCorgi · 11/10/2020 12:02

Those students are bringing the university into disrepute. They're not very bright, are they?

ChakaDakotaRegina · 11/10/2020 12:03

I fear the only women still permitted to speak about women’s equality and inequality are Mary Berry, HM the Queen and Angelina Jolie (*as long as she’s talking about foreign women that are poor and far away)

TheGreatWave · 11/10/2020 12:10

Shame they are so bothered by this whilst racism is rampant. I guess it is easier to just yell "transphobe" then actually do something that makes a difference.

Rubidium · 11/10/2020 13:42

Findthetruth Yes, Macilraith's Article on JK Rowling was embarrassingly bad, I hope the essays MacIlraith submits towards his/her/their degree are better argued or MacIlraith might be in trouble.

ArabellaScott · 11/10/2020 14:12

An article that shows Selina Todd as completely reasonable and the students as mystifyingly upset about - something or other, vague, undefined notion of 'transphobia'.

It doesn't reflect well on their thinking, or debating or campaigning, ability.

WeeBisom · 11/10/2020 14:55

The guy who authored the letter is also apparently from an insanely rich family. How inspiring for a rich American to try to get a working class , woman professor kicked out of a student facing role.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 11/10/2020 15:05

Yes, it’s true. Sad but it also makes me laugh.

SunsetBeetch · 11/10/2020 15:08

Oh ffs!

SapphireSeptember · 11/10/2020 15:14

Dear dear, Oxford, you're making a show of yourself again! (Do the students at Cambridge get up to this sort of nonsense too?) I'm planning some shenanigans next time I visit my home town (which may or may not involve some of Posie's finest wares.)

FairFriday · 11/10/2020 15:19

I hope we get to the stage when the Students who are currently rolling their eyes, muttering ‘gobshites’ under the their breaths and shrugging their shoulders finally stand up to these tin pot dictators and call out their bullying nonsense.

I suspect part of this is such people who are used to getting their own way trying to manipulate their lecturers into being too scared/weary to give them crap marks (if deserved of course) for a ‘quiet life’.

GivesNoFox · 11/10/2020 15:35

To no ones shock Keinath-Esmail who created the open letter is a male born individual with a breast fetish:

These people are all cookie cutter misogynists.

How the FUCK can so many left wingers support this movement?

A working class woman is being bullied by a wealthy male-born individual with a fetish, in the name of inclusivity and 'kindness', no doubt. Good god almighty I want to tear my hair out!!!

PearPickingPorky · 11/10/2020 15:55

That is a very illuminating thread GivesNoFox

fakenina · 11/10/2020 15:59

My daughter was the first in our family to go to university. She left home a brilliant, inquisitive, opinionated young woman who was always CURIOUS. She came back from Oxford with a first in Philosophy, thousands in dept and a phobia of questions, either being asked them or asking them herself.

fakenina · 11/10/2020 16:00

She is 100% TWAW. and cries if I ever try to bring up the subject.

FairFriday · 11/10/2020 16:26

Oh god, they broke her!

ThePonderer · 11/10/2020 16:45

Another article by this same student: www.theoxfordblue.co.uk/2020/09/28/this-week-in-transphobia-oxford-does-it-again/

It includes a definition of transphobia - unusual in itself - “Transphobia is the fear, hatred, disbelief , or mistrust of people who are transgender, thought to be transgender, or whose gender expression doesn’t conform to traditional gender roles”.

Your belief/disbelief/thoughts will be policed. It's interesting to see this stated openly.

Kit19 · 11/10/2020 16:53

Right so it’s now phobic to believe the scientific fact that ppl cannot change sex? Ffs
