Disappointed in dh female manager

She's told dh that he can move tables and boxes etc 'because he's a man' dh is not impressed. It's also not even close to his job description.

I thought more women were over this type of stereotyping.

I’m not sure I could get exercised by this as a one off. In my office the men would move heavy stuff if required because they were the strongest and I would get things down off the top of cupboards because I’m the tallest.

Just read some more

'The manager (not his manger just a manager) is an older lady she pulled out 3 of the men and left all the women at their desks. Dh said to her it was good to see sexism was alive and thriving in the workplace which he said was quickly glossed over. One of his female colleagues said she'd help and was told no it was a 'job for the men' Turns out there were also over 200 boxes of paperwork to move none of them so heavy a woman couldn't have helped also.'

This is shit and he needs to talk to hr.

Refusing help from a woman?
A massive load of stuff?

Sounds like a job for the whole team to me.

Except the pregnant or disabled I've obviously. Which does throw in an issue of, what if you don't want to disclose those things. How do you say no in front of everyone without looking like a lazy bastard?

Tricky.

What sort of office is this? 300 boxes of paperwork- paperwork is heavy. A full standard carton type box full of paper would be really heavy.

That many boxes must mean a large office and a large business. Where are facilities management? Sounds like a job for them or getting someone in to do it.

100% HR this is a bizarre arrangement.

His workplace sounds awful as well. What industry is it, out of interest?

NiceGerbil · 09/10/2020 13:07

How can a boxful of paperwork not be heavy? Most storage boxes are pretty big.

How did your DH know none of them were so heavy that any woman could lift them?

Just thought as well. SHOES! ok sounds trivial but not. Is it the norm for women in the office to wear heels? Do they drive to work so they don't have trainers? Just another thought!

Women are at times very sexist themselves, I work in a very male dominated job and the amount of women that are amazed at a woman doing the job and make inane comments is worse then the men.

trilbydoll · 09/10/2020 13:18

It's bonkers not to get everyone to help because it would be quicker.

We have to collect our boxes of printer paper from Goods In. They always phone up and say collect some big strong men and we all go downstairs. Women bring up one box and the men bring up two and it's done in one trip!

Thank you scrappydappydoooooo for your valuable contribution to the debate.

Of course men are stronger than women. Being a feminist is not about pretending that there are no differences between the male and female body.
