I've been working on this project for months. I argued that instead of sitting around moaning that senior women aren't applying in our male dominated field we should do something about it. As of today, a UK company that employs more than 15,000 people will add a line to every job advertisement that we encourage people that have taken a career breaks for parenting and caring to apply.

Well done, that's great!

BraveBananaBadge · 08/10/2020 09:34

That’s brilliant. Well done!

ErrolTheDragon · 08/10/2020 09:36

That's brilliant. It seems such a simple and obvious thing, it shouldn't have needed months of your effort!
Does the company have any way to monitor if it's having a positive effect - ie parents/carers applying and getting the jobs?

FloralBunting · 08/10/2020 09:43

You absolute star. I'm a returner to work after 20 years raising a family, and you've actually made me tear up a bit. Thank you xx

TikTakTikTak · 08/10/2020 09:46

emptyplinth · 08/10/2020 09:49

earthtopluto · 08/10/2020 09:50

This is fantastic! Thank you OP Flowers

emwithme · 08/10/2020 10:31

Excellent!

I start my new job on Monday. I wasn't going to apply (it was a bit of a stretch application) but then read the line "Ideal position for someone returning from parental leave or a period of caring"

The job is initially 25 hours but if things go the way the boss wants, then it will probably need to be full time in about 18 months which works really well for me.

OvaHere · 08/10/2020 10:35

Brilliant. Thank you for doing this. Many of us in caring situations are perfectly capable of performing in the workplace we just unfortunately have large gaps in our CV's due to caring responsibilities.

WhatWouldJKRDo · 08/10/2020 10:39

Fantastic!

LuckyAmy1986 · 08/10/2020 10:40

Amazing! Well done OP.

InTheLongGrass · 08/10/2020 10:47

Fantastic! Thank you.
I've just accepted a job earning less than when I graduated 20-something years ago because I cant even get an interview at a job equivalent to, or a grade lower than when I left 5 years ago.
I dont think I'll ever get back where I was Sad.

doctorhamster · 08/10/2020 10:49

ArranBound · 08/10/2020 12:47

Well done!!

StealthPolarBear · 08/10/2020 12:57

They tried to get you to self classify as a trans woman?! (I assume you aren't)

ProfessorSillyStuff · 08/10/2020 14:33

LOL StealthPolarBear I wouldn't put it past some!
But that isn't what the OP meant.

MoltenLasagne · 08/10/2020 14:44

That is fantastic work OP. I'd really love to hear how you went about it.

StealthPolarBear · 08/10/2020 20:31
