I've just finished Troubled Blood and there is NO transphobia

I've just finished it - it's very long and very very good - and definitely no transphobia! One brief mention of someone who might be the murderer might have worn a woman's coat to confuse his victims - it's one page out of 900! It's so not relevant to the plot.

It's such a good read, and really disappointing that it's getting so much negative attention.

Thanks DeRigueur.
I do like a good crime novel so this sounds like a good new series to get into.

@FloralBunting

And of course what's profoundly depressing is that a woman who wrote books which engaged a whole generation of kids with book reading is being dragged on Twitter by people who in the last year have probably only read appallingly bad smutfic on FanFiction.net
😂

I've also just finished reading it. As others have said it's not transphobic. A relatively minor plot point has been blown up out of all proportion. I can't really say a lot without giving the plot away, but once you read it you'll understand how absurd the telegraph review really is.

I want to buy it, but I've only just read the other 4 and then if I get this one there's nothing to look forward too

I've been waiting 9 years for the next GoT book 🥺

If anyone wants a lazy catch up the BBC has all the books serialised on iPlayer. I really enjoyed all the glamorous locations and great character casting, it's very well done and gripping watch.

I normally avoid screen adaptations but I’ve just watched the first episode of Cuckoo’s Calling & it was surprisingly good. I really like the casting.

@borntobequiet

Isn’t there a Sherlock Holmes story where he disguises himself as an old woman? Would that be (retrospectively) transphobic? Or perhaps the great detective was secretly trans?
What fun quoting myself. It’s the Adventure of the Mazarin Stone and Holmes disguises himself as an old woman with a baggy parasol (a touch of genius). The disguise is so good that it fools the page Billy.
