Jane Garvey quits Woman's Hour

Can't say I'm hugely surprised: it's pretty clear that she and Jenni Murray have been gagged over then trans issue — and if over that, what else? Garvey's love of and cynicism about WH has been obvious for some time.

Is this the end of WH? While I have to say that in recent years my listening has dwindled, I'd hate the TRAs to see its disappearance as a victory.

Won't be the same without Jenni and Jane. There are some horrendously woke young female presenters on the BBC (Josie Long I'm looking at you...) So I really hope they don't go down that track.

Fi and Jane were talking about Jenni Murry leaving WH, and about who might succeed her, on their Fortunately podcast recently. They were joking about Jane being the "heir apparent" for the lead presenter vacancy.

Wow. I will miss them both but I can't say that I'm surprised. WH has barely commented on the erasure of women over the last two, three years. It's embarrassing.

The BBC's new Director General seems to want to move the Beeb away from wokeness, though. See the recent Last Night of the Proms business. Time will tell, I guess.

Considering it's an open ambition to have someone born male in every single facility or situation that was intended to centre females?

Wouldn't be surprised at all. Won't that be a truly lovely achievement for someone born male as an inspiration to other people born male? And would WH then have to do much as certain women's officers have done in only be willing to talk about and represent issues that affect people born male, and reject anything female specific as not a woman's issue/exclusive/hate?

What impact will that have on the intended listeners who have just that one hour a week that notices them as a group and issues specific to them as a group?

According to popular attitude: well they're only female, so who cares? Confused

I selfishly hope it’s not Emma Barnett because I’d miss her on radio 5live! It’s bad enough that we have to have right on Nihal Arthanayake 5 days a week as it is without them moving people who actually are interesting to listen to.

I think things have been different there since that idiot said they were too scared to talk about trans issues when someone who didn't agree with them was in the same room. I really felt Jane's frustration then. And of course the attempt to no-platform Jenni must have played a huge part in both of their decisions to go.

When I heard about that white woman who said she was black, I was hoping for a WH piece on that and its obvious comparison to trans, but will have to keep hoping, I reckon.

I'll really miss Jane Garvey - more so than Jenni - I think she's done a great job.
