''lovestruck student who was given a wrong number by a mystery girl''

How is 'persistent pest who won't take no for an answer and scared his victim into giving a false name, address and phone number'' a romantic story?
The only good thing is that many of the comments (even in the Sun) aren't buying it.

He is a third year psychology student. He is going to be working with vulnerable people. Should one of his tutors take him to one side and have a chat?

There's a thread on FB about this and, quelle surprise, some bloke is on there defending him, saying a man wouldn't mind if a woman did this, it's romantic, she should be flattered.

Mate, you're a delusional stalker with serious boundary issues and breaching her confidentiality in the fucking PRESS! And quit the pouty puppy dog look. Leave her alone.

TableFlowerss · 22/08/2020 15:01

Agree with you OP and most PP’s.

They’ve made it sound romantic and like a love story.

The reality is he’s a bludy pest, trying his luck with a poor girl who clearly has no interest whatsoever! #block

I hope to god “Amy” was smart enough to give him a fake name too.

Hope so she was pretty clued up to give false contact details.

I don't see how it's romatic to anyone though I wonder if some men are thinking why didn't she just say she wasn't interested as it propably wouldn't occur to them women have to factor in men getting nasty and possible threats of violence with that.

Soubriquet · 22/08/2020 15:03

I just hope some “well meaning” person doesn’t find this girl on social media and sends him her information

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/08/2020 15:03

Christ "Amy" run, keep on running and don't look back...

Or on 2nd thoughts take out an injuction against him contacting or coming within a mile of you. He looks like a creep, talks like a creep and behaves like a creep. Next we'll find out that Amy is 15.

diddl · 22/08/2020 15:03

It's a shame that she didn't feel safe enough to tell him that no she didn't want to give him any information about herself.

Having to lie & he actually thinks that she mistakenly gave him the wrong number?

Just shows that she was right!

PumbaasCucumbas · 22/08/2020 15:03

Grim

I do wonder if that's why the guy is hoping for with this article.
MalbecIsMyOne · 22/08/2020 15:08

“First date in the Peak District”

Sounds the the starting plot of a horror movie Sad

starray · 22/08/2020 15:10

Why didn't he just use a photocopier?

Oliversmumsarmy · 22/08/2020 15:10

You were so elegant, genuine and sexy. I loved talking to you

That in itself is enough to think “Amy” made a correct call when she gave him the wrong number.

If someone gives you the wrong phone number then it is saying they don’t want to talk to you.

Catsup · 22/08/2020 15:21

It took him 10hrs to write that out 100 times, and he now has blisters on his hands. Was this his first ever time writing a letter? Poor Amy! Thank god he didn't insist on trying to check the number there and then.

SuperlativeScrubs · 22/08/2020 15:22

I had this with someone and it turned to full blown stalking. It's not a "good story" at all!

SockYarn · 22/08/2020 15:23

That's really creepy. Poor girl. Hopefully he'll get the message and leave her alone.

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/08/2020 15:24

It's almost like he feels she now owes him a relationship since he's gone to all that bother - fuck that.

Savananan · 22/08/2020 15:27

So grim, to be honest though hopefully there is no 'amy' and he is doing it in a bid to go viral and for women to swoon at how romantic he is. In reality it's creepy, weird, and gross. On the positive, plenty of people do psych degrees and never do the additional training/secure a job working with people. Thankfully in this case.

ThatsNotMyNameItsTooFluffy · 22/08/2020 15:32

If you seek Amy

goingtotown · 22/08/2020 15:32

Deliberate wrong number 100%.

Kaiserin · 22/08/2020 15:33

Rather cruel (but not unexpected) of the newspapers to play along with his delusional story.
He sounds like a vaguely deranged creep, and the media's attention is very unhelpful.

WagnersFourthSymphony · 22/08/2020 15:33

Good call, Amy! You trusted your instincts.

The story was originally in the Mirror, but they have pulled it. (Wonder why?) The fact that some women in the targeted street contacted him wishing him luck is very depressing, so I hope 'Amy' gave him a false street address too. Someone on FB was suggesting it wasn't as bad as the headlines made out as he didn't write 100 letters to Amy as such, he wrote one letter 100 times to different addresses where he thought she might be. As if that makes much difference. Obsessive, entitled creep, who came over so heavy that Amy felt giving false details was the best and safest way out. And it never occurred to him to wonder why she didn't take down his number too, no doubt because it didn't occur to him that a woman might have agency.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 22/08/2020 15:35

So the article has included the phrase “every god damn house on Kimbolton” presumably the road she lives on, so now everyone can work out where she lives too and carry on his harassment for him?! FFS what’s wrong with newspapers? If I were her I’d be livid about this being published.

VettiyaIruken · 22/08/2020 15:39

Wow.
How could he think this appropriate?
She gave him a fake number. Take the hint!

WagnersFourthSymphony · 22/08/2020 15:39

Tbh, that would be even more delusional.

This trope that the persistent bloke wins true love is all over rom coms and perhaps some naive and thoughtless people think it's true. It probably appeals to the sort of person who believes in The Rules.

CheesecakeAddict · 22/08/2020 15:45

I can't see the comments but do hope people aren't condoning what he is doing. That poor girl.
