That poor boy

FireUnderTheHand · 13/08/2020 20:12

Oh no! Poor poor boy Flowers - this is heart breaking. His story unfortunately will be a very similar story for many many many many many more children in years to come.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 13/08/2020 20:13

jesus wept.

That is appalling.

SnuggyBuggy · 13/08/2020 20:16

That's horrible. If it was just the blockers he might have been OK, people can be treated for delayed puberty but once the growth plates fuse no hormone treatment will make you grow.

That’s awful. Poor guy.

The doctors doing this need struck off.

Couldn't agree more. Socially transitioning at 7! Why? I wonder how many kids who socially transition during primary school detransition before having medical treatment. It must be so hard.

Do we know which country this is?

COVIDKilledTheRadioStar · 13/08/2020 20:40

Well that's his dating chances totally buggered women rarely like to date the shorter chap.

Is he definitely straight? I don't know if gay men have as many problems with the height thing.

Sounds really awful anyway. I really worry that this could have been me as a closeted-bisexual, gender non-conforming teen if this trans stuff had been so popular 20 years ago. There but for the grace of god and all that.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 13/08/2020 20:42

My deep sympathy for this man. Horrific.

It's not just the doctors that take the blame, it's the whole teetering edifice - academics, influencers, medics, celebrities, etc. Heartbreaking.

I hope he can come to terms with it. Is that treatment likely to have caused sterility?

KingOfDogShite · 13/08/2020 20:43

It’s absolutely heartbreaking. The doctors shouldn’t just be struck off, they should be prosecuted.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/08/2020 20:55

@SerenityNowwwww, I don't know. I had a look through the Twitter thread to see if anyone else had seen it before. Wasn't the reddit/detrans forum recently shut down? I don't know if it was archived anywhere. My hunch would be that this young man is in the US or Canada, not the UK, but it's no more than guesswork based on the fact that he doesn't mention the NHS.

I have a level of scepticism, don't know why and very happy to be proved wrong.

scotsheather · 13/08/2020 21:08

Actual cross sex hormones at 14 wouldn't be allowed in the UK surely so prob US/Canada. He'll be stuck between 2 sexes for life in development terms at least (yes he is biologically male). Most detrans heard of here are young females but the perils are just as important to know for young men and boys.

refriedbeanstalk · 13/08/2020 21:10

Detrans is still going it's gendercritical that was shut down. Fuck Reddit though.

Kantastic · 13/08/2020 21:17

I feel a bit sceptical too. It's the tone. "shorter, weaker inferior guy." Sissy roleplay, I think.

FWRLurker · 13/08/2020 21:23

There are a many kids getting this treatment in the US (Joanna Olson-Kennedy is the Mad scientist in question if I remember her name right). She got funded By NIH For a million recently to do an uncontrolled study with no longitudinal follow up beginning x sex Hormones as early as age 10 (it’s based on Tanner stage 3 which can occur age 10-15). I’m going to hazard a guess that the “conclusions” were written before the grant.

grantome.com/grant/NIH/R01-HD082554-01A1

By the way, they call this study “observational” but that is only because 100s Of kids are getting Prescribed the hormones off label by these clinics, INCLUDING the UCLA clinic. So now they are going to “observe” them. If they’d written the grant saying they’d actually give the drugs ironically (or by design?) it would never have been funded because it’s unethical.

I hope that someone studies kids like this medically, but probably no one will. The study by lisa litmann is the only one I’m aware of and she’s only studying Teen not childhood transitioners.

@COVIDKilledTheRadioStar fair point. Although given my understanding trans status is separate from sexual orientation, so my comment was mainly aimed at odds are if he's straight this is handicapping him royally. I wonder if there is a crowdfunding effort doing the rounds for him to bring a civil case to bear?

I really would like people not not be quite so quick to leap to medical interventions in children, that could stunt their normal development. It might focus their minds more if there was medical malpractice suits a potential costs.

JoysOfString · 13/08/2020 21:55

The “shorter, weaker, inferior” bit I read as him envisaging how other men would see him, rather than his own value judgements. (Though I don’t know what sissy role-play is so may be missing the point)

But this will be happening to lots of people - if you doubt the veracity of this it doesn’t change the fact that it’s a real problem that needs highlighting, and the more it’s discussed the better.

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 13/08/2020 23:31

Webberley still facilitates hormones for the under 18s from Spain, so while the NHS is more cautious, it’s definitely possible for a British teen to be on cross sex hormones at 13 ish.

If this post is real (and I have no reason to doubt it) then I hope this chap finds health and happiness and sues the absolute pants of the adults who put him in this position, and that his parents (likely well-meaning but misguided/misdirected) are held to account too.
It’s paediatric and adolescent detransitioners who will blow the wheels off the entire gender machine. I am just aghast (and oh so sorry) for the former ‘trans’ children who will have to live with the consequences.

The peril of blockers followed by cross-sex hormones for boys and men is they run a significant risk of never being able to have sex, ever.

I'm not sure it's so clear cut for girls and women?

LoveLastMinutesAndLostEvenings · 14/08/2020 00:19

Interesting to read the POV of a male detransitioner, as there have been quite a few female, but no less tough. These poor kids are just social experiments aren't they?

queenofknives · 14/08/2020 09:12

That is heartbreaking.

Sorry to be cynical, but I think it will take more stories like this for this whole nightmare to end. By which I mean, the stories of male detransitioners. People generally are way more empathetic towards males and understand why being underdeveloped and developing breasts etc would be so devastating to a young man. Whereas the many, many stories we've already had from female detransitioners do not seem to break beyond the circles of women and feminists.

I could be wrong, of course. Really any child or young person of either sex telling a story like this should outrage everyone. It's all so devastating.
