Trans Twitter Account redefining female

I am struggling with this one

twitter.com/TransSalamander/status/1291818785981124608?s=19

I don't really know what to say, but I think this dangerous ideology needs to somehow be challenged.

I work with teenagers and I listen and support all of their valid concerns and arguments, but this account is followed by some of the young people I know and it really worries me.

Does anyone have anything useful to say that I can store for when I'm having conversations about this with young people who possibly being persuaded down a tricky opinion-path by stuff like this?

Honestly I think it's so stupid that it's helpful. You can ask if they think we need a special word for the half of the species that give birth, menstruate etc. What about females of other species? What makes them female and not male? I dunno, I think you could break this down quite easily. Most young people aren't stupid and will be able to see how extreme this is. I also think it's helpful to bring up the idea of a legal fiction- which is what the F marker on a TW's passport is.

toomanypillows · 08/08/2020 12:29

Thank you. It is stupid but it's this drip feed into vocabulary and conscience that worries me. Some of these kids are so woke it hurts!
I'll talk to them about the need for female /male markers medically, I think that's the base ground, but these people on Twitter have thousands of followers and they all retweet each other. There's a decent amount of people seeing these messages

'sex is just as imaginary as gender when you use sex to obfuscate what you're really talking about (e.g., you're talking about uteruses, so just say that)'

Doesn't it occur to some people that a uterus does tend to come with a whole package: ovaries, a female pattern of hormones, no penis? Surely we need a word for that?

midgebabe · 08/08/2020 12:37

And what about the women who have had a hysterectomy yet still don't get treated as equal to men?

toomanypillows · 08/08/2020 12:38

It's quite something isn't it? And not isolated. (I wandered down a rabbithole a bit)

As it was posted by a _"Trans submissive plural lesbian furry artist". Confused I think they can safely be ignored.

nauticant · 08/08/2020 12:45

Their bio:

Oops transposed my transGrin!

helloareyouthere · 08/08/2020 12:48

Basically, we shouldn't let cis people move the goalposts like this. They think they get to redefine these words to exclude us based solely on a misinformed understanding of sex

Grin The lack of self-awareness is a wonder to behold. Are you sure this is not a spoof account in Titania McGrath mode?

helloareyouthere · 08/08/2020 12:50

So those are two xy people in a lesbian relationship then?

nauticant · 08/08/2020 12:52

It's the old 69 Paradox helloareyouthere.

Cwenthryth · 08/08/2020 12:53

That post doesn’t even attempt to redefine female - it’s just a load of nonsensical waffle. You can’t argue with stupid, so just let stupid be seen for what it is.

Female refers to a member of the sex class that produces large gametes. Trying to claim “transwomen are female” isn’t a redefinition, it’s just a falsehood.

Interesting enough for a holiday visit? Or best avoided?

There are some places that will help to fill in the background of TransSalamander. Useful if you want to learn more.

Anyone who claims to be owned by a partner needs avoiding.

Christ, even the cat gives me stink eye if I suggest I own him.

toomanypillows · 08/08/2020 13:41

I know this particular account is quite extreme - it's not so much that as the wokerati who are reading it and nodding sagely

The NZ fruit growers have a fair bit on this one. Just saying.

OldQueen1969 · 08/08/2020 14:37

What in the name of all that is real is "an individual that neither has nor produces gametes"?

An amoeba?

Doyoumind · 08/08/2020 14:58

Curious you just say you don't identify as producing gametes and miraculously you are a non-gamete-producing person, of course. Educate yourself!

Good grief, it’s packed with non-binaries, furries, incels in lippy and transwomen who’ll perform Circque de Soleil feats of mental gymnastics to avoid thinking about their permanent, unchangeable, essential maleness.
Is this a consequence of the death of youth subcultures? There’s no decent music genres you can form a tribe around nowadays, so teens get into this guff instead? At least in the past you’d just get a dodgy haircut, an unfortunate tattoo you could cover up or a piercing you could let grow over, occasionally giving them a wistful glance while remembering a misspent youth. Will today’s young people look at old pics and talk about their trans phase with equal measures of nostalgia and embarrassment?
Just got to hope they don’t let misguided idiots and shady enablers do them permanent harm in the meantime.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 08/08/2020 15:06

Doyoumind Do you mind?!?!?!

I spent years learning and teaching human physiology... I fear my ex students coming back to taunt me!!!
