Time, once again sadly, to let them all at Guardian HQ know how much this is appreciated? Courage calls to courage

boatyardblues · 03/08/2020 19:12

What a shame the Guardian zaps so many comments these days. To Suzanne Moore: “Fucking A!” Barnstorming article.

This is so nonsensical I'm afraid I just laughed:

' “Well,” said Moran, “a woman is a gender, it is a way to self-identify and there are lots of genders. There is male and that is biological. There is female, which is also biological. A woman is a gender identity which is more akin to being a man. Those are the opposites and then there is also non-binary, which is people who don’t identify with either.” '

It's more like a script for a satire than anything. This woman is an MP with ambitions to lead a party, and an ex-teacher.

I think that article deserves a handwritten letter, but they have some way to go to prove to me that they are on the side of women's rights

dementedma · 03/08/2020 19:40

Love the final sentence! Just brilliant.

MondayYogurt · 03/08/2020 19:42

They've probably just realised the topic gets clicks from both sides.

lanadelgrey · 03/08/2020 19:52

Perhaps just to show Suzanne some real appreciation? And some others there who haven’t got the courage to raise their heads?

aliasundercover · 03/08/2020 20:12

Suzanne's backslap of Beaumont-Thomas (that name conjures an image of a true man-of-the-people, eh?) is great.

Have you checked out his Guardian profile pic? It's precisely what you'd expect him to look like, wokey-beard and all.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 03/08/2020 20:24

they have some way to go to prove to me that they are on the side of women's rights

They employ a man who smears and impugns victims of domestic violence. Apparently without much in the way of consequences. They can get to the far side of elsewhere.

ThePurported · 03/08/2020 20:34

I love Suzanne Moore (and Hadley and a few others) but I'm done with the Guardian. I hope it goes bust and stops hogging the 'leading liberal voice' space.

Siablue · 03/08/2020 20:58

The context for the Ben BT rant is the hypocritical column he wrote this week saying no one should send a hateful missive to someone they don’t know after trying to get Suzanne fired. www.theguardian.com/music/2020/aug/03/taylor-swift-folklore-hardcore-pop-fans-abusing-critics-stan

I think the tide is turning.

NotBadConsidering · 03/08/2020 21:25

It’s not courageous of the Guardian editorial team to allow a longstanding columnist to publish an opinion on women’s rights to tip the scales back 1% from all the bullshit they’ve published from the other side.

A newspaper attempting balance should be a given, not something that wins you clicks, tweets and hearty pats on the back, as if they’ve just published the Watergate scandal for the first time Hmm.

Justhadathought · 03/08/2020 21:40

I've come to the conclusion that many gay men have no idea about what a woman is. They see everything through their own homosexual lens.Women are just people that you know you are not attracted to, although they can make for quite an appreciative fan-club.

Justhadathought · 03/08/2020 21:41

..if anything many gay men are actually quite repelled by women.

Justhadathought · 03/08/2020 21:42

Superficial comradeship and shared identification...but really only very superficial indeed.

Justhadathought · 03/08/2020 21:45

Much of gay male culture has been idolising gendered masculinity for quite a long time, hence all of the beards and bro' culture.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 03/08/2020 22:18

I've just had a quick look at that column by Ben BT that Siablue links above about online abuse of musicians / critics. It's all women who are receiving the abuse - horrible sexist and vile threats - but he's too dense or misogynistic to point this out. Not one man appears to be on the receiving end of this abuse.
No wonder Suzanne is so angry with him. Yet another male hypocrite who dishes out abuse yet cannot bear to name women's sex based oppression / abuse.

Durgasarrow · 04/08/2020 00:18

She was awesome! And he is a sniveling little weasel!

thirdfiddle · 04/08/2020 00:40

I think they may be realising that woke kids don't buy many papers.

Great article but I had to go hunting through the graun website before I found it - couldn't see a link to it on their front page.
It's still at number 6 in the 'most viewed' list though so if they were hoping to hide it away, it's not working .

xsquared · 04/08/2020 10:13

That's brillliant.

Floisme · 04/08/2020 10:16

By the way I can't see a link to it on my phone either. Despite this oversight - because it has to be an oversight surely Wink - it's now at 5 in 'most viewed'.

RadandMad · 04/08/2020 10:20

I'm thinking this article is the Grauniad going into appeasement mode after they got such a pasting on Twitter by women fed up with its pro trans stance. Still bloody glad to see it though.

SapphosRock · 04/08/2020 10:45

Excellent piece of writing. Nice work Suzanne Moore! Star

Let's hope Julie Burchill doesn't wade in with her toxic 'bed wetters in bad wigs' nonsense like she did before and people might actually take notice.
