This smacks of the cultural revolution in China. Some years ago I began to be allergic to some of the vocabulary the extreme wokerati use, and then I thought about the reason for that: It is very authoritarian and very black-and-white, you will be sent to re-education camps, and any research you do can only lead you to crawling back on your knees once your brain has been properly washed.

I have seen similar incidents on Twitter many times. The abject crawling and apologies are usually not enough, though. Perhaps because those who play this game get great enjoyment from the sadism which they can pursue while coming across as virtuous.

Shes fairly heavily critical of twitter on Instagram and I also think she's just fed up of being bullied and I think understandably wants to protect her job.
I often wonder whether the bullying pile ons really truly work. Yes there might be the public apology to save face in front of future employers but in private I know I'd be even more likely to dig in to my original opinion.

Oh, it all makes sense now. Glaad offered to re-educate JKR last year when she tweeted about Maya Forstater. They must have made the same offer to AA. This endorsement was probably a requirement for a pass grade.

I bet you're right. IIRC GLAAD writes the "apology" themselves and the heretic only signs their agreement.

I never saw what she posted apart from the forced apology - was it just that? It's all much too reminiscent of the cultural revolution tactic of putting a stool in the middle of the circle and having everyone pile in with criticism. You'd say anything if you feared you'd be next on the stool.

That still doesn't make sense to me. Her two tweets were 1) getting re-educated and 2) retweeting a tweet criticising JR. She got some supportive trans tweets, some critical GC tweets, and some of her followers sending support and love re her return.

Why tweet criticising JR if you don't want to get involved in all that?

yes i agree WinterIsGone - twice she's dipped her toe in, twice she was monstered for it. to do it a third time RT a tweet hating on JKR, and then post this self pitying moan as if she's surprised

I think this is third time this has happened to her and the poor woman is tarred and feathered, Twitter-style, until she has to prostrate herself before the woke altar and promise to 'do better and educate herself'.

It's clear enough that she's GC and doesn't believe a word of the TWAW BS, but the treatment she gets whenever she says anything 'out of line' is pretty much inevitable.

If she's deleted her account, why did she write those things in the first place? Just more aggro, did she think she would have gotten anything else? If so, that's terribly naive. Or maybe she was directed to write it and felt sullied?

Man, you guys really aren't very sympathetic. She'd obviously been forced to write those tweets. She felt what everyone does in that circumstance - self-loathing, resentment etc. So she lashed out. It's perfectly understandable. Also, people criticising you for capitulating from behind pseudonyms must be pretty galling, when you are writing under your own name, and your actual life is on the line. I don't know why people are so quick to be so damning of people who are, actually, on our side.
