He asked her "What is a woman?" You can imagine how that went. "Word soup" would be a kind assessment.

Well done him for asking her!

nauticant · 25/07/2020 18:08

He doesn't seem to like this gender identity rubbish very much.

Did her answer have something to do with souls?? 🤪

Neolara · 25/07/2020 18:12

I thought her thinking on this issue was quite depressing. I would have had more respect for her viewpoint if she'd at least acknowledged that that this is a really tricky issue and there are legitimate concerns from both "sides" of the debate.

ChattyLion · 25/07/2020 18:14

She’s not really what I’d call a ‘political thinker’ Grin

RoyalCorgi · 25/07/2020 18:22

"What is a woman?" turns out to be an impossibly hard question to answer for our politicians, up there with theoretical physics and the more esoteric bits of fiscal policy.

ThePurported · 25/07/2020 18:22

Did her answer have something to do with souls??

And bearded women, that killer gotcha.

nauticant · 25/07/2020 18:23

I had such low expectations that I listened as though it was to a Moran impersonator on Dead Ringers and found she did a reasonably amusing turn.

If I'd taken her seriously then, yes, it would have been very depressing.

(Can you tell I'm looking forward to Saturday night wine?)

God. It makes me want to scream listening to these stupid politicians. It’s so obvious that they haven’t really listened to women at all.

Nobody thinks that people shouldn’t be able to identify as the opposite gender and be happy. Nobody thinks all transwomen are predatory men. And nobody wants to look down anyone’s pants to check their sex - we can bloody well tell.

But I genuinely can’t understand how any reasonably intelligent person can’t grasp that self-I’d is open to abuse.

And the trans people are scared shtick drives me nuts too. I’m bloody scared - for me and my 13 year daughter and all other girls and women. And I sometimes wish I could leave the country too. But I don’t even know where I’d go, as this madness seem so be spreading. Any ideas?

ThePurported · 25/07/2020 18:31

I always imagine Layla Moran as a character from The Thick of It.

WinterAndRoughWeather · 25/07/2020 18:33

Mind you, she was on The Political Party podcast a couple of weeks ago and interestingly she rowed back quite a bit on the pansexual thing, saying she basically thinks it’s the same as bisexual and doesn’t really care about the label much.

SerenityNowwwww · 25/07/2020 18:36

It tickles me to think a bisexual can’t define ‘woman’ (and presumably ‘man’).

How does she/they know that she/they is gay/bi/whatever?

She has a female partner now (as far as she/we know) and had a male one before. That’s bi in my book surely?

Melroses · 25/07/2020 18:47

I think all the pansexual hype was just a smokescreen to divert attention from the fact that her new lover was dumped by LDHQ after being caught out making up e-mails that she hadn't sent.

nauticant · 25/07/2020 18:49

I think the pansexual label is intended to convey different things to different groups of people. For the gender identity crowd it's to say she's one of them. For the Radio 4 audience it was "it's just a label I like because it's about being attracted to the person".

How many people say “this it my partner x - easy on the eye but I have absolutely no attraction to their personality...”

She did a whole bit asking how we expect to protect single sex spaces, do we need to check inside everyone's pants, make everyone carry id cards etc.

Ahem She's put herself forward to lead the LD party so maybe someone should tell her that single sex spaces ALREADY EXIST and that their protection IS WRITTEN INTO LAW.

Such an utterly pathetic attempt to be interesting.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 25/07/2020 19:02

It puts a whole new spin on one of the main characters from The Faraway Tree series, that's for sure.

To be honest I’d be up for that 😂
ThinEndoftheWedge · 25/07/2020 19:14

She did a whole bit asking how we expect to protect single sex spaces, do we need to check inside everyone's pants, make everyone carry id cards etc.

When I was a child, somehow society seemed to manage. She is so clueless in how she actively emboldens men who were once kept in check.

Also - as a girl, if you had any concerns, you knew you could go to a passing police officer.

Not now. They need the hate crime stats.

SerenityNowwwww · 25/07/2020 19:14

I can imagine anyone over the age of 17 desperate to be ‘something’ different.

SerenityNowwwww · 25/07/2020 19:15

Can’t - cant imagine...
