Long time lurker, have had my eyes progressively opened by this board & am becoming more & more (quietly) passionate about the issues raised here.
Have just seen this on a friend's FB- she was annoyed enough to share it and it's riled me enough to post for the first time!
Her & her husband both got sent Lakeland catalogues today.
Can you guess who's is who's?!
I'm going to write to Lakeland! Not quite sure what to say, my job is vaguely marketing related so I do understand targeted advertising but are we in the 50s still? Cunts.

I didn't realise there were two covers that is so bad!!

Atadaddicted · 24/07/2020 19:17

But you have made the view that cooking is more important than cleaning?

Both are important.

quodvox · 24/07/2020 19:20

Its wrong though! I do the cooking DH does cleaning!
I don't really see a problem? Cooking and cleaning are both valuable jobs to keep a home running smoothly.

CallarMorvern · 24/07/2020 19:22

Tbh, I'd be very happy to clean if I had a man who cooked, cooking is the shittier of the two jobs.

TornadoOfSouls · 24/07/2020 19:22

Yes, but men get praised for cooking, especially ‘special’ cooking. What on earth is it, though? On my phone it looks like he’s pouring gravy over a cheese toastie stack with ice cream on top?

HoneysuckIejasmine · 24/07/2020 19:22

The point is they've obviously decided that cleaning appeals more to women than to men, and vice versa. That they don't think men would look through a cover with cleaning on it, hence producing a second cover.

ElsieBeard · 24/07/2020 19:23

I don't get your point?

cheeseismydownfall · 24/07/2020 19:24

I think the point is that although the picture and caption relating depicting cooking could be switched out for a female model, it is almost unthinkable that Lake land would use the picture and caption depicting cleaning with a male model. And that is a problem.

NipLash · 24/07/2020 19:24

Is it just the cover that's different, but the contents the same? I got the one with the man on the cover, so I don't think they deliberately sent that one to men?

Tremaine · 24/07/2020 19:24

I got the cover with the man pouring the sauce, so I think it's random

benderinabun · 24/07/2020 19:24

I don't think one chore is more important than the other? For me it just feels like they have made an assumption that the female would be the one cleaning and therefore those products are more interesting to her.
I don't know why they need a different cover for different sexes at all

I got my Lakeland catalogue today too and it was the one with the ice cream and waffles on the front. I buy both cooking and cleaning things from Lakeland.

benderinabun · 24/07/2020 19:26

More replies! Perhaps it is just random which one you were sent and not targeted then 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well its probably true.
swashbucklecheer · 24/07/2020 19:26

I got the cooking one Confused

Atadaddicted · 24/07/2020 19:26

I enjoy cleaning
Despise cooking
So I cat see anything wrong with this from my perspective. I just think “poor sod” to whomever is cooking!

Musto · 24/07/2020 19:26

Wouldn't take 60 seconds to bin that combo.
Splodgetastic · 24/07/2020 19:27

I am a woman and have received the cooking one. I probably buy more cooking things than cleaning things from them.

Xanthangum · 24/07/2020 19:27

Feels a bit circumstantial, could just be a coincidence. Worth doing a poll of Mumsnetters? FWIW we got the ice cream one, addressed to a female name.

AlCalavicci · 24/07/2020 19:27

Would you prefer if the pics were the other way round or would you then say why is cooking always portrayed as a woman's job

HoneysuckIejasmine · 24/07/2020 19:28

Elise undoubtedly. Wouldn't it be nice if they chose to challenge stereotypes rather than reinforce them?

Saucery · 24/07/2020 19:28

Cooking one here, female cardholder.

alliejay81 · 24/07/2020 19:29

Don't know about Lakeland but Lego used to do this. We were members of the Manchester Discovery Centre and DH and DS got the "boy version" and I got the "girl version". I was NOT happy!

cheeseismydownfall · 24/07/2020 19:29

I can stand The Organised Mum Method for this reason. Fuck right off. The Tidy Minded Parent Method I could get behind.

benderinabun · 24/07/2020 19:30

I'm less bothered by the people in the pictures themselves than the fact I (potentially incorrectly) thought Lakeland had sent all females a catalogue with cleaning products on the front and the males something different.
I'm very happy to be corrected Smile
Saves me writing a letter!
