A line from an article by Nadia Whittome, MP. She was so pleased with it that she also tweeted it.

When did our MPs become this stupid?

Women shut up.

Imnobody4 · 24/07/2020 10:02

She really is a complete idiot.

Michelleoftheresistance · 24/07/2020 10:04

What does that trendy word salad even mean? Confused

It used to be considered bad practice, a sign of poor communication skills, arrogance and unprofessionality in local government to release anything that wasn't in plain, accessible English that any person in the street could understand. Mostly as it was a sign that you'd disappeared into an elitist bubble with jargon and lost touch with your basic responsibilities and who they were to.

ARoombaOfOnesOwn · 24/07/2020 10:06

She went back to work in a care home (she used to work in the sector before becoming an MP) at the beginning of lockdown. In theory she should be bringing so much to the table as an MP and yet...

Apollo440 · 24/07/2020 10:07

Dodgy hate stats - check
Dodgy stats that women support this - check
No evidence that it will be abused - check
And so on.....

Floisme · 24/07/2020 10:08

I think she means that because she doesn't know how to debate properly then nobody else can either. Oh and be nice.

ThatsHowWeRowl · 24/07/2020 10:08

She is a frigging Member of Parliament for our country and she comes out with shit like this?

What is happening?!

NonnyMouse1337 · 24/07/2020 10:10

Should there be some sort of examination that people need to pass before they can qualify to become an MP? Like a basic grasp of democratic principles, values of liberty and critical thinking? Confused

Jeeeez · 24/07/2020 10:12

She's getting a right drumming in the Twittersphere....hahahaha

Michelleoftheresistance · 24/07/2020 10:13

Yes. Plus a psychological screening for fitness and capacity, and to serve the electorate rather than misuse their post to indulge personal obsessions.

ThatsHowWeRowl · 24/07/2020 10:14

I just don't get it. Labour have recently had one of their worst election losses ever, and that is with an absolute shit show as their opposition? What are these MPs thinking, coming out with stuff like this?

BovaryX · 24/07/2020 10:17

Debate, freedom of speech, any challenge to prevailing orthodoxy are anathema to the Robespierre faction. Every day this becomes clearer.
ChattyLion · 24/07/2020 10:18

Jesus. I’ll leave aside the irony in the ‘fetish’ analogy because I don’t want to get deleted, but talk about luxury beliefs.

How can we move forward- on any political issue whatsoever- with MPs with this level of Orwellian rightthink?

Why the fuck did she want to get elected as an MP, a relentless job if you do it properly? Does she not attend Commons chamber because she doesn’t like debate? Does she not read the news or consituents’ letters or take part in select committee work because she might come across something new? Was she born knowing everything and with her mind already made up correctly on every issue? What do her party think about their MPs behaving so complacently?!

KaronAVyrus · 24/07/2020 10:18

Aren’t MPs supposed to debate stuff? Why is she talking herself out of a job?

Good to see she is a getting a lovely ratio on that tweet.

It literally (lol) reads like something out of 1984.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 24/07/2020 10:22

There are plenty disagreeing with her view, thank goodness. I applaud them for deciphering the load of claptrap in the first place!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 24/07/2020 10:22

A foot in the door for DOUBT? Like doubt itself is terribly dangerous?
Anyone would think we were talking about a religion here...oh wait.

Michelleoftheresistance · 24/07/2020 10:22

What are these MPs thinking, coming out with stuff like this?

They're the descendants of Mandelson's 'post democratic era' thinking: that the electorate are stupid, the bright light of proper thinking is held by a small group of professional politicians, and the general public must be forced and punished and prevented from democracy in order for Good Things to happen.

Those 'good things' being the kind of thinking Mao, Stalin and North Korea quite like.

As she's demonstrating in her tweet, she isn't very bright. Many tweets have explained the issues in her timeline and she's still saying stupid things so what's in her head has been put there, her arrogance is enormous and her respect for people is tiny, and she has eyes on nothing but her own career.

Labour is dead. These people had the data back on why they failed so miserably and lost the labour heartlands: their response is merely that the electorate is stupid and this is why they shouldn't be allowed democracy to thwart their betters. Best thing for this party is to leave it to finish disappearing up its own bum, and hope that something better arises from the ashes.

TheRealMcKenna · 24/07/2020 10:22

Well, if this doesn’t with back the people of Bolsover and Bishop Auckland then nothing will....

ThePurported · 24/07/2020 10:24

I feel sorry for women who live in her constituency. Imagine trying to explain your concerns to her!
Iirc she demanded for 'transphobes' to be rooted out of Labour during the trans pledge debacle. Or was it 're-educated' Hmm

PligityPolopity · 24/07/2020 10:25

It’s amazing how certain things definitely are not fetishes(I’m not talking about genuine gender dysphoria) but debate is a fetish. It really isn’t a great time to be a woman, is it. It’s unbelievable.
The sheer irony. Can anyone take this MP seriously now?

RoyalCorgi · 24/07/2020 10:25

It's depressing. In the article she says that certain things, like whether women are innately less intelligent than men, should not be up for debate. I can get why she says that, but why does she have to use a term like "fetishise"? People who believe in debate don't "fetishise" it, they just believe in it. Given the context, it's a really unfortunate choice of word.

She also says things like:

"I would challenge anyone to sit and listen to the story of any trans person without feeling anything but shock and compassion. You will have trouble finding any trans person who doesn’t tell you a backstory including some level of alienation, loss of family, bullying, persecution, difficulties with accessing appropriate healthcare and worse."

But the truth is, while I've seen quite a few stories of trans people that left me shocked, there have also been plenty that didn't arouse any compassion at all, including the large numbers of rich white men who then become trans women and get lauded for how brave they are. Caitlin Jenner. Pips Bunce. Sue Pascoe. Or the ones who turn out to have a disturbing interest in pornography, such as Julie Marshall, sentenced the other day for possessing 6,000 images of child porn. Or the rapist Karen White. Or our little friend Jessica Yaniv, who likes asking teenage girls about menstruation. Or that lovely person in the Guardian the other day (forgot the name) who likes putting tampons up their bum. Sorry to disappoint, Nadia, but I don't have compassion for any of those people.

Nadia Whittome’s linked Indy article says: Everything said on the subject of trans identities has a direct impact on real people and their families.

Absolutely yes it does when it relates to possible changes to national legislation like the GRA and extending that to be bringing in self-ID. We can all agree on that. And those real people affected also include children and women, and particularly lesbian women and their families What about them?
