Apologies if there was a three as that I’ve missed but just in case...
This is horrifying. What parents would allow their children on an open zoom call with complete strangers? How woke are we to be literally sleepwalking through this?

@Thingybob

Can I just point out that there is nothing to suggest there is anything inappropriate about the LGBT+ Sparkle Zoom meetings and the connection with SW or Healthwatch. Nowhere on that flyer does it say that these events are aimed at children so could well be 18+ as Sparkle is a charity for transgender people of all ages.

The Sparkle events are completely separate to the Zoom call highlighted in the OP which was aimed at 6-12 years. That appears to be something that was set up by an individual/organisation in the US.

Wait. Not sure I understand. It's a different Sparkle? Or the same one but operating in the US?
CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/07/2020 12:13

@MrsJamin Yep, from their own pages

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/07/2020 12:15

@Melroses in other bumf Sparkle uses both terms about the same people. But yes, 'Patron' seems to be the official term! Apologies for choosing to go with the wrong one!

Another one for the Baroness?

ShinyFootball · 23/07/2020 12:23

On the Twitter thread it was confirmed that this call was in USA.

Well that's weird, isn't it?

I teach at a private school (overseas) & we Zoomed non stop - & will be again in September probably.

You would not believe the amount of meeting time that was devoted to safeguarding, the head spinning number of updates to guidelines...

The worst that ever happened was the occasional DIP (dad in pants Grin) in the background somewhere but we were super conscious of potential issues.

Saw this saga on Twitter - it's absolutely horrifying. Reminds me of the inquiry that found that Aimee C was basically completely incapable of understanding safeguarding - that level of, at absolute best, terminal naïveté.

& once you consider the 'plants' it's too calculated to be naive.

We definitely need a bat signal for the Baroness, I reckon.

Baroness Nicholson needs to sign up to Mumsnet.

From what I understand, the Zoom in question was set up by Manisha the US group SchoolClosure threadreaderapp.com/thread/1285851023882571776.html

I am not sure what the Sparkle connection is other than they are also advertising Zoom sessions.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/07/2020 13:07

I am not sure what the Sparkle connection is other than they are also advertising Zoom sessions. I think some of the speakers may crossover!

But there has been a connection made, Sparkle may wish to know that so they can have a look. If they do indeed share speakers then there may be an issue!

Thingybob · 23/07/2020 13:53

The only connection I can see is that two different Zoom chats were discussed on this thread. I would be the first to condemn Sparkle if I saw any wrong doing but in this instance there doesn't appear to be anything at all.

Ah ok, thank you.
MrsJamin · 23/07/2020 16:20

@CuriousaboutSamphire ah I was talking about healthwatch, which is what the original post was about. I don't think two conversations about two different organisations is very easy to follow.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/07/2020 16:22

Grin It did get confuddled, didn't it?

Gingernaut · 23/07/2020 19:26

Yeah, sorry about that.

Two batshit, safeguarding nightmare Zoom meetings set up by people with dubious motives and backgrounds and aimed at children.

One homegrown (LGBT+ Sparkles) and the other using Harry Potter to lure a younger audience in.
