Anyone else sick of still seeing Pride logos everywhere?

I don't have a problem with Pride, and its role in raising awareness etc in the way that many campaigns have awareness days/ weeks etc. I can remember when it used to be a week, then it became a month (June). All fine.

But I've just seen John Lewis still has its Pride logo on its Facebook page, as does one of our local council pages and the Twitter feed of a group affiliated to the local police.

Surely the point of a month-long campaign is that it is, er, a month and then you revert back to your usual branding, or else the impact is lost?

I have to confess, some of this is a design and marketing issue for me, as the Pride versions of high street logos are usually appalling - the John Lewis one being a case in point!

The only letters the LGBTQ movement is about nowadays are T&Q.

As a lesbian, I’m sick of the rainbow flag & especially the new version. They’ve come to symbolise a homophobic, sexist movement that says that being a woman is about which gender stereotypes you conform to and same-sex relationships don’t exist.

notyourhandmaid · 20/07/2020 17:30

P can also stand for polyamorous or pansexual, BTW.

Your correct and originally that what it stands for but like most things it’s getting bastardised in to something horrible.

Be careful if you search for #maps there is some really disturbing videos. I’m done with Twitter now. I don’t know how the owners can look themselves in the face

Soubriquet · 20/07/2020 17:36

That is sickening

So twitter will delete anything about being a woman but will allow things on MAPs

It’s disgusting

We are a polyamarous family though...

DickKerrLadies · 20/07/2020 17:38

It's not Pride that I have a problem with, it's companies sticking a rainbow flag on and saying "look how inclusive we are" in an attempt to increase profits.

If there's any dog-whistle homophobia anywhere, it's rife in genderism. If ActionAid UK can claim that sex doesn't exist, then neither does same-sex attraction. I think that's pretty homophobic, personally.

What the hell would anyone want to voluntarily search that for?!

My immediate response when I see it is Pride in what?

In young children being experimented on?

In women's rights being eradicated?

In sexual kinks being normalised?

As a logo/concept is lost all it's original gravitas and meaning.

notyourhandmaid · 20/07/2020 18:02

Oh yep, I know! Just want to note that not everyone using it will mean the same thing. I discovered the MAP thing a while back and it's horrific.

Because it's an actual word as well as a creepy sex thing. And there are actual maps shared on social media. And people might go looking for them, not knowing about the creepy sex stuff.

But you knew the answer already right?! lol Grin

@Silvergreen

There seems to be quite a lot of dog-whistle homophobia on the feminist board recently. It's like the 'femail' section of the Daily Mail. Is this the collateral damage of the gender-critical stance here? If you think Pride goes on for too long, it's not for you, ok. 🙄
I think you might have tinnitus
Michelleoftheresistance · 20/07/2020 18:10

There's no one on MN being homophobic.

Lots and lots of TRA stuff about lesbians having a duty to 'learn to cope' with straight sex with males, teaching males to break through the 'cotton ceiling' of non consenting, unwilling females' knickers to get sex from them, and that biological sex doesn't exist, so a fuckton of homophobia there..... and 'diversity' and 'inclusion' and 'intersectionality' from that lobby mean 'for males only', they aren't values ever extended to females, so wholly hypocritical rather than anything to celebrate.

And yes, another lesbian thanks. Who grimaces and walks away at the sight of the flag I used to march under, because it doesn't stand for me or any genuine value I can be proud of or even want to be associated with any more.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 20/07/2020 18:13

Actual MAP is a word? Well, yes.
Although you're hardly likely to read the feminism board on here though talking about MAP and then think "ooh I know I want to brush up on my geography" or "wonder where such a country is located on the map?" are you?
'Cos THAT'S what you're all talking about when talking about LGBT rights - where Australia is on the map!
Silly me lol

carmystery · 20/07/2020 18:17

Cheap and easy way for companies to look inclusive.

If they did something to support anti-racism & anti-sexism I'd be more impressed.

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 20/07/2020 18:33

@BraveGoldie

The month is one way of trying to get people's attention and channel energy, but ideally we should be thinking about these issues all year round, so I think it's great if it's becoming less of a 'gestural' thing and more embedded in the brand identity.
Seriously? Why does a sexuality have to be embedded in a brand identity? For what purpose? One of my children is autistic, would it be reasonable to have that reflected in the brand identity. One is left handed, should that be. What a load of tosh quite frankly.
Soubriquet · 20/07/2020 18:44

It’s why I never understand why employers ask for your sexual preference and “gender identity”.

Why does it realistically matter if you’re gay or straight or identify as “non-binary”?

It doesn’t affect how you do your job. It’s all about employers trying to be inclusive

notyourhandmaid · 20/07/2020 18:58

No harm to have the data - it can be useful to know if certain minority groups are really under-represented in applications etc - but it should be kept anonymous (e.g. last, removable page of an application form, no identifying data) and it becomes meaningless if categories are vague and incoherent.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 20/07/2020 19:07

Exactly because as a bog standard boring regular favour sheltered old fashion sexual I am rapidly catching up with rainbow diversity of sexual orientations (and gender) identification politics.

Never guessed there were so many variations as it is mind boggling and as I said all along if there is no discrimination because of sex and sexual identity what has this got to do with how you are able to fulfil a particular role etc etc.

No employer needs to know what sex you prefer if say it is a standard garden variety office based position.

All sexual preferences are private and a conscious individual choice but any nonsense with minors is not acceptable. Was shocked to learn a little about the word " map" as basically WTF!

As long as there is respect, equality and no discrimination then all this sex sex sex stuff is irrelevant and unnecessary.

Are the likes of John Lewis or Sainsbury's in the market for sex or sex related industry??? I can't see the connection! Maybe because I am a boring sexual.

Please don’t tell me P stands for paedophile..
Sadly yes. Twitter is a wretched place. It’s allowing all sorts of creatures to come together

Sorry, but doesn't p stand for "pan"?

xsquared · 20/07/2020 20:12

Sorry again, I see that someone has already mentioned it.
