Munroe Bergdorf lands big book deal with Bloomsbury

Reported rather breathlessly in the Graun

www.theguardian.com/books/2020/jul/17/munroe-bergdorf-receives-landmark-book-deal-for-trans-manifesto

Among other things she’s going to tell us all that the experience being a ‘ciswoman’ has changed over the years. Hmm

‘my intelligence has been undermined, and I’ve been underestimated a lot in a lot of different instances.’

Sounds a bit Dunning-Kruger to me, to be honest.

OP posts:

I think Bergdorf should be free to write a book. Will be interesting to see if people will buy it, a bit like no one buying tickets for the changing named Canadian cyclist's lectures. FWR seem more excited about it than anyone else atm.

Binterested · 21/07/2020 21:13

So not only can we not correctly sex people or refer to them accurately as male people who identify themselves a certain way, we are also not permitted to use words this group use about themselves. Even when those people have been abusive, homophobic and misogynist. Good to know MNHQ has women’s rights front and centre. How should Tinsel refer to the narrative whereby the transwidows are ignored while their newly feminine husbands are applauded for their courage?

FloralBunting · 21/07/2020 21:19
Angry
TinselAngel · 21/07/2020 21:37

I think the trans widow's ex's narrative has taken over here ATM- and it's supposed to be a feminist space.

TinselAngel · 21/07/2020 21:41

Whilst we've been robbed of the words to describe our experience.

ZIGGY7 · 21/07/2020 22:03

Is it ok to use radiant and courageous?

dragoncheeselady · 21/07/2020 22:15

How about fabulous and courageous is that allowed. Or perhaps MumsnetHQ could give us another list of banned phrases that only apply to the feminism boards.
Or perhaps just list the rules of misogyny to show us were we are going wrong.
Praise to bewilderness for originally posting them

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 21/07/2020 22:16

@ZIGGY7

Is it ok to use radiant and courageous?
Or, indeed, any pair of positive, complimentary adjectives?
TinselAngel · 21/07/2020 22:21

Bold and beautiful?

Courageous and captivating.

IloveJKRowling · 21/07/2020 22:36

Jesus wept. Women saying 'stunning and brave' is banned on Mumsnet.

And they try and claim they're not silencing women.

Here's a tip: if you are deleting women for making a mildly humorous joke about a particular phrase which is used often then you're silencing women.

You're misogynistic.

You're expecting women to walk on eggshells and second guess every single thing that they want to say and decide in advance if it might have a 'tone' or a mild humour that someone, somewhere, someday might disapprove of.

Which stifles women's voices and makes them scared to talk at all.

While on AIBU people directly insult each other with relative impunity.

@yetanotherbeckymumsnet

Can you confirm if this has been added to the special rules for FWR? (I don't know as I can't see the pinned tweet on the app)

Did the deleted posters receive a strike?

Are you going to issue deletions and strikes for posts using this phrase prior to today?

IloveJKRowling · 21/07/2020 22:40

Or, indeed, any pair of positive, complimentary adjectives?

Probably not allowed if any man at any time, anywhere in the world, could find it faintly annoying.

Which rule of misogyny are we seeing in action here? Someone remind me?

dragoncheeselady · 21/07/2020 22:50

Well we could have women speaking for themselves is exclusionary and selfish or women and feminism must be useful to men or else they are worthless but I am sure there are more

EmpressLangClegSpartacus · 21/07/2020 22:51

Terrifically Incredibly Marvellous?

12. Women’s ability to recognize male behavior patterns is misandry.

I mean it's all terribly counter productive, isn't it. Are words TRAs use so inappropriate or questionable in some way that they have to keep taking them back pronto because they've become 'a trope' or a negative reflection.

Remember #NoDebate? Where's that gone? Into the dustbin of own goals?

And now S & B? Out it goes.

T**f, already banned here, is fast heading that way. Even a judge has condemned it.

'Cis' is almost universally rejected.

And as for 'transphobic' - what did that woman call it? hackneyed as fuck?

In the current climate of the government taking a dimmer and dimmer view of cancel culture and realising the pressure to uphold free speech, reporting women for talking just increases all the negative attention that you'd think TRAs had learnt to avoid.

Binterested · 22/07/2020 08:09

I think this really is a new level of nonsense. Words are banned on someone else’s say so - they may use these words freely. We may not. MNHQ kowtow immediately.

And who knows what will be allowed through the censor from here on in? Have I already trespassed? Is kowtow allowed? Trespass? Censor ?

Which other group of people gets this treatment ? You don’t censor like this on any other grounds. Not even race.

Can I say that transpeople are clearly ‘most oppressed ‘? Again their terminology - presumably if B & S is banned this must be too.

Why not just issue us with a list of approved words. That would be simpler.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 22/07/2020 08:28

@MNHQ we really need clarification on this. Is the phrase "stunning and brave" now banned on FWR? Is it banned on other areas of the site? Will posters be given a strike for the use of this phrase? If so, is it in the pinned notice? When was the decision made to ban the phrase? What is the rationale behind the banning of these words?

NotBadConsidering · 22/07/2020 08:28

F word is banned.
G word is banned.
N word is banned (no, not that one, the other one).
B and S are now banned. Are they only banned as a pair or can they be used singularly?
