The Tory MP for Devizes has written an article saying the gov should not allow self ID.

Very good article. Thanks

Binterested · 15/07/2020 10:30

That's a very strong article. Frustrating that he has to quote Debbie Hayton to back up his argument when it's women who have been making this argument since the beginning but basically I like it. And I like that he sees that it's about the class of women and the class of men - not just about predatory men accessing women. It's about the attempted erosion of a truth we all know and understand.

Amazing that the Conservatives are able to see and understand this class analysis whereas Labour are still stuck on individualistic interpretations of identity.

He used to be a special advisor to boris.

This is really clear and concise.

Agreed, I do wish Hayton would just shut up and let women be heard

Sillydoggy · 15/07/2020 16:43

I think a lot of people think that if they quote Hayton then no one can call them transphobic!

Sillydoggy · 15/07/2020 16:44

It is good to see any MPs speaking out and I don’t care what party they come from.

Binterested · 15/07/2020 16:45

I agree. That's why they do it. But the outcome is - men can't become women and here's a man who says he isn't one so it must be true. As opposed to it's true because we all know it's true and in case anyone was in any doubt, women have been voicing their objections to this ideology for years...

I know you all know this - it's just annoying. Still I'm glad the Conservatives are slowly getting this and it's a very well written piece. Keir has a hell of a long way to go with his shower of idiots.

Interesting. Feels like the groundwork being laid for an announcement, no?

Yes, this is it I am sure. It's rather as if you want to criticise Critical Race Theory, it might be better to quote a black academic than a white one.

I've just sent this article to my Tory MP. I've been putting off writing to him for ages because he's a patronising git and I couldn't make up my mind how to word the email. Anyway this is so succinct and to the point and covers the issues pretty well I think.

zanahoria · 15/07/2020 18:05

Good point signalbox, this article is very useful

Signalbox · 15/07/2020 18:33

Crumbs they're on the ball... I just got a reply only 45 mins after sending!

Dear Signalbox,

Thank you for your email of the 15th July, which I have just drawn to XXXX's attention.

He has asked me to confirm that he has received many emails similar to yours expressing very valid concerns for what reform of the GRA could ultimately lead to.

He has been reassured by conversations he has had with ministerial colleagues that radical change is not being contemplated – and ANY changes will be carefully considered before being put to the House. Finally he has asked me to include a link to a recent BBC article on this matter, which he hopes you will find interesting - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-53411965

Kind regards

Siablue · 15/07/2020 19:25

What a brilliant reply from your MP. It is a really positive sign.

zanahoria · 15/07/2020 19:26

The principle that gender should be no part of law is excellent as is the point that the GRC is misnamed

PumbaasCucumbas · 15/07/2020 19:41

Wow, very encouraging

Binterested · 15/07/2020 20:52

Anyone in Reigate who can email Crispin Blunt? He's currently on Twitter telling women to be kind Hmm. You be fucking kind, Crispin. I'm done.

Signalbox · 15/07/2020 21:14

I think Crispin might only be interested in himself so probs a lost cause...

Wikipedia says Crispin is gay but was married (to a woman) until 2010 who he left to come to terms with his homosexuality. According to Wikipedia He is now a proponent of LGBT rights although his voting record in Parliament had previously been broadly unsympathetic towards gay rights.

On 20 January 2016, he admitted to having used poppers, during a parliamentary debate that discussed banning them along with other legal highs. He stated, "I out myself as a user of poppers. I am astonished to find [the government] is proposing it to be banned and frankly so would many other gay men

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 15/07/2020 21:34

“To concede the claims of the extreme trans lobby – that sex is not fixed in biology, but simply ‘assigned’ at birth – is to sell the pass. We will be in Wonderland, or in 1984, where truth is what the people in charge decide it is.“
YES! Why is this not the part that makes all lawmakers stop in their tracks?

ThinEndoftheWedge · 15/07/2020 21:54

More support from Tory MPs...

Interestingly, women now make up the majority of Labour MPs, yet seek to undermine/destroy women’s rights.

In the one area where identity politics would actually suit me, Labour women MPs identify more with men- DB, RLB, LN, JP AR etc.

There are a number of women Labour MPs I still like and seem sensible I.e Harriet Harman, Lucy Powell, Yvette Cooper - but I don’t know their views on the GRA and I wish they would be vocal for us.

IloveJKRowling · 15/07/2020 21:57

Thanks OP, my Tory MP seemingly thinks the concerns of women and girls about the removal of single sex spaces are unimportant so I shall be sending him this. Mind you, he's a coward and never votes against the whip or seemingly has any independent thought so if there's a 'we believe in biology' wind blowing through the Tories he'll probably follow.

SeaRabbit · 15/07/2020 22:19

I'm in Crispy's Reigate & Banstead constituency and have been emailing him about this for more than two years, always with zero success. He always bats it down. I replied to his tweet earlier, like many women have, with examples of how 'kind' TRA are. I may have to go to a surgery...

He is a keen supporter of Stonewall judging by photos, and he now chairs the Conservative LGBT group I believe, though last time I searched it was all very low key (ie hard to find details).

wellbehavedwomen · 15/07/2020 22:21

How about recognising that male people in our spaces, representation and sport is anything but kind to us, Crispin. Women matter too. No?

zanahoria · 16/07/2020 13:47

One of the really good things about Kruger's article is that it homes in on the fact that gender is a poorly defined concept and that self id would be a badly defined law. It is worth emphasizing this to legislators as unlike gobshites on twitter they have to come up with precise definitions and live with the consequences if they do not. I think he is deliberately targeting waverers by asking them if they really want to go there, have they really thought out where this will lead.
