Crap thing to happen to anyone (and I include Hardplop in that - wouldn't wish it on him).
I've lived/worked in fucking rough areas, and it's really upsetting when something like that happens (random half brick through the kitchen window, air rifle pellet through the front window, stolen car crashed into your parked car...), but for once I agree with Hardplop - you can't let yourself enter a mindset where you think you're being targeted deliberately, because that way madness lies. That sort of area there's just a lot of vandalism and anti-social behaviour, most of it just random outbursts.
(Having said that I didn't think of any of the stuff that happened to me as newsworthy. Annoying, upsetting, yes, but sadly so commonplace I doubt the local paper would have been in the slightest bit interested. I think the media are quite interested in running stories on "hard working HCP returns to find car vandalised after night shift" stories - it shifts papers at the moment.)
