Pride Power list

To be published in the Guardian tomorrow.

https://www.pridepowerlist.com/the-list-2020.html

A few controversial ones. Philip Schofield for one. Being blackmailed out the closet is something to celebrate? Really?

But mainly disappointed to see Peter Tatchell at number 2. For those who aren't aware he wrote a letter to the Guardian back in 1997 saying sex between adults and children could be enjoyable.

Glad to see the power couples dominated by lesbians though Smile

Completely agree about Schofield. Tatchell didn't just write that letter, though, he's consistently pushed the idea of sexually active very young men/boys among other things. His continued respectable position is, I think, attributable to the soft bigotry of low expectations.

Off to click on the list and see what's what.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 10/07/2020 21:00

That letter is utterly sickening.

FloralBunting · 10/07/2020 21:06

A 'few' controversial ones? You know that list is blue touch paper, Sappho😆

And I don't really agree that three lesbian couples, three gay couples and a heterosexual pairing mean that lesbians are dominating the power couples, tbh.

However, i like Jane Hill, favourite news presenter and I like Heather Peace's music.

But yeah, that's certainly a list of powerful people alright.

Deliriumoftheendless · 10/07/2020 21:18

Jameela wore a suit and tie in the cover of Playboy. 😆

I suppose you won’t remember the 80s, will she?

Deliriumoftheendless · 10/07/2020 21:20

Still, it’s outlets like The Guardian that encourage the belief that it’s radical behaviour.

FloralBunting · 10/07/2020 21:21

A suit and tie? On a woman? On the red carpet? My god. Was she wearing flat shoes too? This is madness.

FloralBunting · 10/07/2020 21:23

Oh, playboy, not the red carpet. Sorry, reading too many screens.

But still. Suit and tie on a soft porn cover? It's world tilting.

Kit19 · 10/07/2020 21:26

A suit & tie?? Did k d Lang & Cindy Crawford pose for vanity fair for nothing?? ??

Deliriumoftheendless · 10/07/2020 21:32

Shhh Kit19, you’ll spoil the specialness

(Hums Eurythmics songs to self)

Deliriumoftheendless · 10/07/2020 21:35

Plus I put the bin out this morning, I expect my place on the list next year.

SapphosRock · 10/07/2020 21:57

FloralBunting yes, I spotted a few FWR enemies on there Wink

Tatchell sickens me. And the rest of the list, well I can say I feel particularly proud to be LGBT after reading it.

Do love Rose and Rosie though.

ThatsHowWeRowl · 10/07/2020 22:07

I literally have no idea how Peter Tatchell is still a 'celebrated' man when that letter is all over the Internet. Its crazy!

Love the Jameela Jamil one:

Jameela challenges notions of queer womanhood, appearing in a suit and tie on the cover of Playboy’s March 2020 On Speech issue

A suit and tie? On a woman? Whatever next?!

FloralBunting · 10/07/2020 22:14

Well I have quite the thing for Sue Perkins, and I'd quite like to be her and have Anna Richardson on my arm. Toksvig is still quite brilliant. But I mostly scan down the list and feel a bit sad really. I suspect it was always going to be the case that the more LGB became accepted, the more corporate and capitalist it would become. I always end up with that impression after reading these lists.

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 10/07/2020 23:16

i spotted a few FWR enemies on there

Enemies?

Really dont like the emotive them and us thing...I don’t have any enemies.......cept maybe carbs 🤔

I doubt many people on here would agree they have enemies

SapphosRock · 10/07/2020 23:24

True Rufus, I know it's bad form to reference other threads but if carbs are an enemy what sort of company would provide a cake room hey?

Enemy is probably the wrong word. There are a few marmite ones that's for sure.

OP posts:
FloralBunting · 10/07/2020 23:26

Oh, I dunno, Rufus. I'm fairly sure Sanctimonious Morph isn't a friend of FWR...Grin

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 10/07/2020 23:38

Somebody needs to proof read and fact check that.

SapphosRock · 10/07/2020 23:44

Yep. I'm pretty sure Jack Monroe no longer identifies as non binary for example. In fact in a (now deleted) Twitter thread she made quite a thing about being a woman.

OP posts:
PastMyBestBeforeDate · 10/07/2020 23:47

That wasn't one I'd spotted!

FloralBunting · 10/07/2020 23:48

She is still bloody marvellous, so it's always heartening to see that being a woman who loves other women doesn't mean you can't be brilliant in a list about LGB and T people. I've almost got used to being disappointed by these lists not having much of that.

NotTerfNorCis · 10/07/2020 23:52

Four of the top five are male.

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 11/07/2020 09:33

but if carbs are an enemy what sort of company would provide a cake room hey

They are my enemy

Don’t remember saying they are everyone in FWRs enemy

(Checks small thread)

Great i remember correctly

But im glad you’ve said marmite 😀

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 11/07/2020 09:40

I don’t mind someone saying they are an enemy of FWR...ive no idea , they might be

I’m fed up with people saying that everyone who posts on here hates so and so, or that such and such is their enemy, or that an entire board thinks exactly the same way on a very complex subject

But hey ho...

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 11/07/2020 09:43

I am in a good mood ...honest i am!

SapphosRock · 11/07/2020 10:51

Haha morning Rufus.

Maybe I'm in a minority but I find it hard to overlook past indiscretions. I'm sure Peter Tatchell does some great activism work and he did a lot of good around the time of Section 28. But he's a child abuse apologist FFS. Do we really have so few inspirational LGBT people that he's number 2? Where are Julie Bindel and Kathleeen Stock on the list? Is child abuse now less controversial than being GC?!
