@CoffeeTeaChocolate

“Doctor, I have some issues with my internal organs, what do you think it is?”

Sorry, couldn’t help myself Grin

On the inclusive language suggestions they are contradicting themselves:

Uterus (bad woman word) = internal organ (acceptable)

Then later they say that periods/menstruation is not inclusive so use uterine bleeding instead. So now uterus is acceptable? Make your fucking mind up. Idiots.

Deadringer · 10/07/2020 16:51

It's daft though because saying uterine bleeding is more inclusive just isn't true, because a trans woman could say they have a period, (and i have seen it said on sm) but they could never say they have uterine bleeding. I mean they could use the word period to mean any vague ache or pain in the abdomen, or side affects of estrogen or anything really, but not having a uterus completely excludes them from uterine bleeding, if that makes sense?

PhoenixBuchanan · 10/07/2020 17:41

I can't for the life of me see how "uterine bleeding" is more inclusive than "menstrual cycle" Confused They're not "gendered", they're describing a biological bodily function FFS. These people don't even think, they just demand changes to language for the sake of it.

They're also not the same thing! Menstruation is one type of uterine bleeding, but there are many other, more concerning ones. This is just utterly daft.

There are some superb comments. I particularly like:

It is indeed common sense that we ought not "lazily" prescribe synthetic drugs to deal with symptoms of a probably natural process; I find it nonsensical that asserting this is treated as equivalent to disparaging the individuals being treated. But here we are.

Honestly, the wry humour of women on Mumsnet was one of the things that woke me up to the sheer nonsense of genderism. Satire is such a powerful weapon.

I really do believe Jo's tongue-in-cheek, sarcastic sense of humour is winning people round as much as the online abuse she's suffered. A well-placed joke can really expose the absurdity of it all.

Kantastic · 10/07/2020 22:18

Uterus (bad woman word) = internal organ (acceptable)

what are you SERIOUS.

What time period was it where women had to use the word "stomach" to describe basically everything between their neck and their knees? And part of the barrier to medical treatment for women was that they didn't even have the vocabulary how to tell the doctor what was going on with them?

Berthatydfil · 11/07/2020 12:59

My eyes are rolling so hard at the thought of going to the doctors and saying I have a problem with my internal organ and the playing 20 questions in order for them to pin point which one it is
Is it in your chest
Is it in your abdomen
Is it in your pelvis
Does it pump blood
Does it regularly fill with air and deflate
Does it digest food
Does it metabolise nutrients
Does it filter waste from your blood

It’s ridiculous nonsense

It was a reference to the picture in the previous post by CoffeeTeaChocolate.

If you look at the picture, it’s a list of suggested inclusive sexual health language put out by a group called (m)otherboard. However, they contradict themselves by saying first that the word uterus should not be used as it is gendered language and instead we should say ‘internal organs’. However, further down, they then suggest uterus is now fine and no longer ‘gendered’ as uterine bleeding should be used instead of menstrual bleeding and thereby showing themselves to be complete fucking idiots.

I think it was this idiocy that TERFLurve was sarcastically pointing out.
