Have just been listening to Times Radio. Navratilova discussion on Tennis and Covid but then asked about JKR. She talked about importance of women's safe spaces and sport. I especially liked the 'it's not up to women to prove men can't compete in women's sports, it's up to me to prove they can', right now they can't. She has campained on women's sport for a long time.

I bloody love that woman. Class act all the way.

McDuffy · 04/07/2020 10:06

Which show was it on? One of the presenters of Times radio follows me on twitter!

McDuffy · 04/07/2020 10:06

Ps did you see her tweet reply about beating Renee this week?

highame · 04/07/2020 10:07

It must have been Jenny Kleeman

Another fantastic spokeswoman

'it's not up to women to prove men can't compete in women's sports, it's up to me to prove they can'

I say this repeatedly. Why are sporting organisations bending over backwards by doing the research to prove the bloody obvious, than men and women are different when it comes to sport?

These males should do the research that “proves” there’s no difference Hmm, present it, have it peer reviewed, published, and repeat the results over time to demonstrate consistency then we can have discussion about it.

Until then, stop pandering and wasting resources.

FranklyDearIDontRiverdance · 04/07/2020 10:11

She’s brilliant. Her Tweet regarding Renee in response to somebody was wonderful

Kit19 · 04/07/2020 10:17

Exactly NotBad! When you think of how long the IOC & IAAF spent deciding whether it was fair to allow Oscar pistorious compete in the Olympic 400m because his blades might give him an advantage. It took years

Man declares himself woman - yeah sure in you come 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

LockdownLump · 04/07/2020 10:17

What was the tweet please?

Same thing on whether transwomen pose the same risk as any other male, or somehow morph into a woman's offending risk, purely on their sayso. Somehow, it's for women to prove the risk - which can only be done when there are raped and abused women, due to the policy, in existence. Then again, when such evidence does exist, and is provided, it's impatiently brushed aside as pointless ancdote.

Actually that's another thing. Time after time, people demand, "find me one case - just one case - where a transwoman has harmed a woman or child in women's spaces!" So you do. And then you're told you're a bigot, for labelling a whole group on the basis of bad apples, and they want statistics. And when you provide those, you're told you can't judge a group by its criminals. And all of this is EXACTLY what Men's Rights Activists do, when faced with evidence that yes, men are more dangerous than women. Same playbook completely.

Women are not seen as a group with any rights. Just gracious allowances, which may be withdrawn at will, if men decide as much. And we're expected to explain and plead for our rights, instead of their having to provide a scrap of evidence for the claim that someone can change sex by declarative process.

The whole thing is just so painfully, obviously STUPID. That's what gets me. People do not change sex, and gender is not determinative of bodies, and risk to women, like success at sport, is wholly about bodies - so gender is not bloody relevant, anyway! I don't give a shit how someone identifies, in those contexts, because it's beside the point.

ethelredonagoodday · 04/07/2020 10:26

Spot on @wellbehavedwomen.

Deliriumoftheendless · 04/07/2020 10:26

“Find me one example!”

“No, that one doesn’t count.”

“Nor that one.”

Etc

“See, you can’t even find ONE example!”

NotBadConsidering · 04/07/2020 10:32

Yes, it’s become standard to say “the reasons we have segregated by sex since the dawn of human existence no longer apply, let’s start afresh with new norm of ‘there’s no difference’ and you now need to prove otherwise.”

I posted the other day that when it comes to risk, the answer seems to be:

Number of cases of assault before TRAs agree there might be concerns = actual number of cases + 1

truthisarevolutionaryact · 04/07/2020 10:35

Fab post wellbehavedwoman

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/07/2020 10:38

She has previously been forced to back down after airing her views and whilst I can understand why, it was disappointing. Hopefully she gets more support this time.

i dont understand her point.

HandsOffMyRights · 04/07/2020 10:54

Yes to all of the above.
In these arguments, when women are often asked to defend our right not to have penises in our spaces, I usually ask 'how does this benefit women/girls?' or 'what are men doing about this?'

It's so tiresome that we are asked to justify ourselves. It's up to you, as a male, to prove why you should compete.

I'm interested in the sport angle and ethics. If an able-bodied individual like McKinnon/Ivy demanded to compete at a Paralympic event would this be acceptable? Not that they'd meet the elite standard anyway, but if their request was rejected then why would that be? It is obvious to you or I, yet somehow, when it comes to males competing alongside females this is overlooked.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/07/2020 10:55

it's up to me to prove they can

Was that a typo and should have said 'up to men'?

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/07/2020 10:55

I guess the fair way to test it is to have players on the same ranking play or race each other. I wonder why all the world records held by men are better than those for women. Sure if my non tennis playing husband played a game against even a low ranked woman she'd probably beat him but that doesn't mean he doesn't have physical advantage, just that her sporting advantage more than cancels it out.

That you for hooking that out - I went down the rabbit warren of her twitter account and ended up reading other tweets and watching videos... she’s very busy in there!

highame · 04/07/2020 10:59

Navratilova mentioned Renee Richards this morning. Renee had wanted to compete against women but eventually realised that was not possible.
