Just that really. Sorry if there's already a thread.

I love it. I really really love it

It’s about time periods are normalised

BaronessWrongCrowd · 03/07/2020 13:19

Finally an advert that depicts an accurate picture of womanhood! I had tears in my eyes. Well done Bodyform.

UncertaintyBlues · 03/07/2020 13:21

Wow I wasn't expecting that! I related to so many parts of it! Especially the period pain, the fire and the monster actually do sum up what it is like for me! I also relate to the bare womb too. Had a cry over that. But yes, periods and fertility are issues that need honesty and this really does do that! Well done body form!

MessyBess · 03/07/2020 13:22

That’s actually really good. I like that it showed all the sides to having a womb, brilliant. I’ve always used bodyform and haven’t had any issues with them.

MissFitton · 03/07/2020 13:26

What a great ad. Tears here too (but peri-menopausal so doesn't take much to set me off at the moment)

ThanksThanksThanks to you all who really suffer as a result of your biology. Quite why anyone thinks being a woman is all lippy and court shoes is quite beyond me. Hmm

JellySlice · 03/07/2020 13:26

OK I see IABU and accept that my experiences are far from universal.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 03/07/2020 13:29

That's wonderful, thank you for sharing.

I've never had a pregnancy but I've had a lot of dildo cams. And the blue womb made me sob, although I've largely made my peace with never being a mother.

kenandbarbie · 03/07/2020 13:31

Thanksto those who wanted to be a mother and can't.

Fairenuff · 03/07/2020 13:36

@Haveastock

Definitely a thank you email on its way Bodyform. So many women in tears on this thread. I think it’s not only that Bodyform have made an amazing Ad but also that we all have been so fucking ground down by a lot of woman-hating shit lately that watching an ad like this has literally opened the floodgates. I need to know what ad agency and which Director created that Ad. Off to Google (and email).
It's all over twitter.

AMV BBDO are the creative company twitter.com/AMV_BBDO

Nisha Ganatra is the director twitter.com/NishaGanatra/status/1278411806965293056

Those who say they can’t relate as your periods are easy, that is what a lot of men think

We can just get on as it’s a bit of blood

This advert is showing that no, not all periods are easy and happy for lucky

I showed my dh it. He liked it...apart from the part where the couple were having sex. Couldn’t see the point in it even when I tried to explain that it’s showing the “sperm boat” going up, turning to the do no have children stream and then coming out.

Ninkanink · 03/07/2020 13:38

❤️❤️❤️ I will buy all my sanitary products from Bodyform, from now on. I boycott with a vengeance but I also make a real effort to buy with my principles in mind. This issue is hugely important to me and I will 100% support any brand that is up front and real about female biology.

Only women menstruate, only women suffer with endometriosis, only women need gynaecological care.

Flowers to all those women who have suffered from any of all the very varied, sometimes hugely meaningful and often extremely difficult levels of being female.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 03/07/2020 13:42

Wow! I was scared to open this thread as my 11 yr old is navigating her periods with Bodyform. I shall keep buying them!
I really identified with the sneeze & the blood on the floor (although it usually runs down my ample thighs first Grin) - I had chats with my daughter about the tricks to getting from shower to dressed without blood staining something on the way.

UncleMatthewsEntrenchingTool · 03/07/2020 13:45

@twoHopes

TRAs often ask "why do you want women to be defined by our biology?" and this advert is a perfect response to that question. It's not a matter of want - as women we are defined by our biology. You could make that exact same advert (with the first period, the sneeze, the relief/grief at realising you're not pregnant, the hot flushes) about black women in a South African township. The experiences are the same. This is what connects us, as women.
Or a woman 100 or 1000 years ago. Across time and continents
CountFosco · 03/07/2020 13:45

Body form definitely know what a woman is, don't they. Absolutely fabulous.

Magpiefeather · 03/07/2020 13:47

Wow - blubbing!

Whatthefoxgoingon · 03/07/2020 13:47

Good one. They’d better not back pedal by calling us people who menstruate. Stupid journalist in that article.

Packingsoapandwater · 03/07/2020 13:49

Bloody hell, I don't think I've ever seen anything so brutally honest before. It kinda shocked me.

But then I realised it shocked me because you just never see any honest representations of these experiences. It's all hidden under euphemisms and metaphors.

MaryRaddy · 03/07/2020 13:49

Great advert and loved the music too!

merrymouse · 03/07/2020 13:50

I think some of the women in the Ad did have fairly trouble free periods.

colouringindoors · 03/07/2020 13:50

I really like this!!! Though crazy that portraying reality of women's biology is groundbreaking!

twoHopes · 03/07/2020 13:52

He liked it...apart from the part where the couple were having sex. Couldn’t see the point in it

I actually really liked that bit as it showed that having female anatomy can be a lot of pleasure, not just pain. Also because I don't have children (and don't think I want them) the sex + relief at getting your period was the most relatable bit for me.

Fairenuff · 03/07/2020 13:55

He liked it...apart from the part where the couple were having sex. Couldn’t see the point in it

That's because as soon as the sperm leaves his body it is of no further interest to him.

You, on the other hand have a whole lot more to deal with in order to for your body to cope with that sperm. And even it is stopped by a condom, your body could not have predicted that so has to make itself ready regardless.

Shortfeet · 03/07/2020 13:55

I’m in the minority .
I don’t like the idea that women are a seething mass of emotions based on what’s going on in their womb .

merrymouse · 03/07/2020 13:58

They’d better not back pedal by calling us people who menstruate.

Even if they did that, the ad exists and makes clear that these experiences don't all exist in little boxes that are distinct from each other - that actually having a period is just one of many consequences of being born with a female reproductive system.

SunshineOutdoors · 03/07/2020 13:58

I loved it.
