Just that really. Sorry if there's already a thread.

@TheFlis12345

I count myself very lucky to know the people who created this ad, I shall let them know that it has gone down extremely well with Mumsnet! Smile
Please do Smile
SocialConnection · 03/07/2020 16:22

I've just emailed them a thankyou, too.

Was wary when I saw a prominent Q&A on their website was with a trans boy, but it was very sensibly handled.

At a time when women are being re-spelt, redefined and replaced, it felt like a YES to me.

I haven't seen any backlash but I will be searching.

It just winds me up that loads of people have said that this ad will make them buy the product as I just feel that making an ad isn’t really supporting women and they feel like their job is done

I wish we didn't have to acknowledge this and thank them yes. But we took for granted that period products would centre women and girls because the alternative was frickin bonkers. But, here we are. The parallel universe where feelings of men matter more than anything else that even period products are offensive. They wrote, they bullied and they succeeded. We can't expect to not have to do the same.

So yes sadly that involves having to swallow our pride and thank whoever throws a few scraps our way and hope the feedback creates an environment they or utters can maybe he a little bit braver next time.

or others

Stupid autocorrect

Oh this is wonderful - and I say that as an ex marketeer - it really was made with love and understanding. And as someone who switched to Bodyform 100% (as opposed to when it was there) after the A fiasco centring on men, I am delighted with this ad and will share with my DD - we are at opposite ends of the menstrual life cycle here.

I had goosebumps

Wonderful Star

And so you should. Thank you and please pass on my thanks to the rest of the team, for not just recognising what many women go through, but also being brave enough to show that periods should not be treated like a ‘dirty secret’. I have a 25yr old daughter who suffers terrible pain and heavy periods, every month, and as result of her suffering, I always buy extra women’s period products for my local food bank too. I shall be buying Bodyform, from now on.

Yes, I was reluctant to open it at first, but then decided I would be as bad as the “no debate” brigade. It was actually a very moving piece and I felt a lot of sympathy for the young person and I hope they’re happy in their life.
Beebeet · 03/07/2020 16:40

It's beautiful.

LillianBland · 03/07/2020 16:42

And thank you for not patronising females, unlike those that tell us that we “gotta get em up there”. Honestly, so many companies getting it so wrong for women. I was really starting to despair!

ODFOx · 03/07/2020 16:43

I cried. It's so lovely, so real.
I'm switching the whole family to body form.

Also, for the crafty minded, they have instructions on how to make an origami vulva on their website: crying and laughing over a brand of sanitary towels. Who knew it was even possible!

SingleHandSue · 03/07/2020 16:44

Brilliant! Just so female, I love it.

FreeKitties · 03/07/2020 16:46

I’m really impressed that they showed blood. I don’t think I’ve ever seen bloody on any adverts/marketing campaigns for sanitary products.

We need to move society away from the idea that period blood is dirty or embarrassing.

Veganforlife · 03/07/2020 16:50

Excellent

adviceatthislatestage · 03/07/2020 16:53

I thought it was fabulous advert and very brave, but will it actually get to be shown on TV?

HereForYou2020 · 03/07/2020 16:56

Wow!

Hoppinggreen · 03/07/2020 16:58

That is brilliant and I may have cried too!

TheOrigBrave · 03/07/2020 17:00

I don’t want my daughter to think she’ll be writhing about on the floor in agony -I know she might (in which case she’ll have my full support and I’ll try to help her cope) but it’s not a universal experience by any means, neither is dripping blood on the floor, having an enormous transvaginal ultrasound rod inserted, etc)

I would regard my periods as being barely any bother at all, my pregnancies straight forward and generally my gynaecological health is unremarkable.

However, I have had a couple of excruciating ones and a couple of absolute floods (poss early mc?), I've had an early pregnancy transvaginal ultrasound and have dripped blood.
What I mean is that while 95% of my menstrual and reproductive goings on haven't impacted my life significantly, those are things which I'd say most women have experienced (maybe not the transvaginal scan) but we just get on.

Highperbolay · 03/07/2020 17:13

Well that was a pleasant surprise, I was expecting something where they were doing everything possible to not utter that oh so dirty word 'woman'.

These days I am totally in thrall to my moon up so won't be buying Bodyform, but definitely a good show from them!

As an aside, I also started my first period during a PE lesson too - how does it know! It was gym as well so literally knickers and a t shirt!

Whatsnewpussyhat · 03/07/2020 17:23

Just a quick FYI for anyone switching brands. I swapped to bodyform years ago when always told us the scented pads never cause thrush or cystitis and women love their fadge smelling like a car air freshener Hmm.
Until recently the pink or turquoise bodyform packs I used to buy said perfume free on the front of the packet. They've now changed and say fresh feel or similar and are scented, so if this is an issue look for the white packet that says allergen free.

JackiF · 03/07/2020 17:23

That is probably the most brilliant ads I've ever seen.
An ad about women. Made me teary.

OhHolyJesus · 03/07/2020 17:33

So glad I came back to check this out properly, scrolled past earlier thinking it will be the same old as erasing women.

Really powerful, never thought I'd be sending a sanitary product a thank you email but I'm so grateful.

Will share far and wide!

GemmeFatale · 03/07/2020 17:34

Another one with the Laparoscopy scars for both endo and a surgery to correct my heart shaped uterus. We had IVF too and the dildo cam bits took me right back.

I think it’s fucking marvellous and I’m going to email them to say so

PumbaasCucumbas · 03/07/2020 17:35

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 03/07/2020 17:44

So, so good. Sniff.
