I'm just slowly discovering that this is an issue due to reading some threads on here - I know this is from a few months ago but I just saw it on Facebook.

The headline says woman, all through the article says woman, but says 'she' is also known as John. Right

How is this allowed to happen? Is it counted in statistics as a woman?

'Lisa' was a convicted rapist. But sure, let's worry more about respecting 'her' pronouns than recapturing her - really?

'Lisa' figured in a Daily Telegraph piece titled 'The truth about female sex offenders'. IIRC they were taking the 'women do it too' line, rather than 'er.... they're actually not all female'.

Read the article and confused. Are we assuming it’s a woman,who also uses a male name, Or a man, who is self-identifying with a woman’s name?

We’re not assuming anything, we know in this case (as it almost always is) that it is indeed a man who is self identifying with a woman’s name.

Is he in a women’s prison, I wonder, many of which have mother and baby units attached? Or have the authorities actually learnt anything from the case of Stephen Wood (the paedophile and rapist who calls himself Karen White)?

SetYourselfOnFire thanks for that link to Matthew “Madilyn” Harks. He features in this excellent interview of Heather Mason by Meghan Murphy of Feminist Current - she says he has left a trail of victims in his wake in the Canadian prison system.

Really, really recommend watching this video if you’ve got 45 minutes to spare. It’s horrifying, and a stark warning about what would happen if we were to go down the self ID route and let male prisoners be incarcerated with women simply on their say-so. Like a dream come true for men whose chief aim in life is to sexually harass and abuse women.

Things are bad enough here, but my heart aches for the vulnerable women in Canada being so monstrously betrayed by their deeply woman-hating government.

A warm welcome to those who have only recently found out how insane the world is now! I often wish I could have stayed in blissful ignorance for a few more years; it is a huge trauma not only finding out what is going on but that virtually all the “adults in the room“, as it were, are at best ignoring it or at worst enabling and promoting it, telling us it is a “good thing”, and vilifying those of us who object to our mistreatment.

I’ve seen things come a long way in the time I’ve been following this (about five years) but we still have a very long way to go, and the only way forward is for more and more women - and men - to wake up to what is going on and get really, really angry about it.

How we undo the brainwashing of (particularly) younger people, who are more likely to have bought into it all, I’m not so sure. But I hope the generation that comes after them will be more connected to reality and actual social justice, and will tell them in their turn that they are the outdated, irrelevant ones!

The current effort to make female a subset of woman in order to make transwomen a subset of woman instead of a subset of males needs to be confronted.
