As part of their support for Pride, £80,000 is being donated to Mermaids.

Mimmymummy is overjoyed.

The link I posted above (Jo Bartosch for Spiked today!) lays it all out pretty clearly.

OldCrone · 03/07/2020 08:40

These new rules have made it really difficult to dip into FWR. Is there a list anywhere?

Some of the forbidden terms are listed in this pinned post on FWR. But "p*k t*s" isn't on there. Neither is "gr*ming" which also appears to be banned when we are discussing transactivism Confused

Pellewsmate · 03/07/2020 09:02

I really can't keep up. Can someone please provide a list of shops where I can now shop without supporting Mermaids and the like?

WookeyHole · 03/07/2020 09:23

Thanks @DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong

When most kids get to teenager years where thing their parents have ever said and done had been wrong (the Philip Larkin rule). Who is going to support these kids when they get to this stage? This isn’t ‘you didn’t take me to Disneyland’ or is hate my name’ is it?

BaronessBrighterThanYou · 03/07/2020 09:28

Pink trains?

SerenityNowwwww · 03/07/2020 09:32

Plop tops?

marplemead · 03/07/2020 09:57

I've emailed the CEO and will report back when they reply.
Have Sainsbury's fallen too? We have a priority delivery slot with them, so would be difficult to boycott.

Babdoc · 03/07/2020 10:05

I’ve also emailed the ceo - as a doctor as well as customer, pointing out a) the medical concerns re permanent damage to children’s health and future fertility by the “treatment” Mermaids is pushing, and
b) the folly of associating the Tesco brand with such damage.

One can only hope that the threat of a boycott and the associated bad publicity may give him pause for thought. It was a stupid decision really, when his core demographic is mothers of families, not woke activists.

SuckingDieselFella · 03/07/2020 10:10

The CEO needs to take a look at twitter and ask if woman-hating bottom feeders are his target demographic.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 03/07/2020 10:11

Women just talking really pisses of sad little men like Owain, doesn't it? Bet he gets a tiny hate boner posting about us.

Women won't submit, Owain. Get over it.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/07/2020 10:15

There's a mother of a trans girl Emily who says Emma Nicholson has targeted her and said shes a predator. Is there any truth to this ? Or was it a generic reference to predators which the mother has chosen to take personally?

The latter, it was a general comment but in response to her, I think.

JKRismyhero · 03/07/2020 10:51

I'm currently googling to try and find articles to email the CEO. If anyone has any, please do post them.

Babdoc · 03/07/2020 11:05

I’ve had an acknowledgement of my email to the ceo saying they are receiving a lot and reply may take a while. I hope all the rest of the mail is on the same subject - they may belatedly realise that pissing off their core customers is a pretty damn stupid business model.

Beebeet · 03/07/2020 11:11

Supermarkets should stick to supporting their staff in ensuring equal treatment etc and if they want to be charitable then donating to food related charities.

MaryRaddy · 03/07/2020 11:18

Of all the 'causes' to support?! Yeah forget about people going hungry, in abusive domestic environments, homeless etc.

Skyliner001 · 03/07/2020 11:39

@MessyBess

Fuck. This is the one time boycotting would truly affect me. We are on their priority list for deliveries, we can’t leave so need to. I know what we like as have used them for years. They even automatically stopped charging me a delivery fee because slots weren’t guaranteed. I find it gross they’ve done this but I can’t boycott this one.
Boycott: 1 withdraw from commercial or social relations with (a country, organization, or person) as a punishment or protest.

Can you say your boycotting something if you don't use it anyway? Really I think a boycott is always going to be hard. It's interesting that a lot less people have commented on this thread than the body shop one. It's not that hard to boycott and be vocal about it when you hardly use a shop...

It will be interesting to see what the CEO says.

Skyliner001 · 03/07/2020 11:40

Messybess: That wasn't aimed at you in a nasty way, was just reflecting on the ease of a boycott when you don't use or shop somewhere! 😊

SuckingDieselFella · 03/07/2020 11:52

@Beerincomechampagnetastes

Owain. A very sad individual who hangs out on mumsnet hoping for screenshots to make his twitter feed relevant. It doesn’t.
In fairness, any individual who does that is very sad.

"Dear diary, today I screenshotted a comment from mumsnet and got 1 like. Who knew I had that many friends?"

ArcheryAnnie · 03/07/2020 11:54

Every time I see nonsense like this - a huge corporation donating to a highly controversal organisation (and one run primarily by fairly socially conservative straight people) that promotes gay conversion therapy, in the name of, er, celebrating Pride - it makes me despair for the lack of really basic research into this that these corporations must be doing.

MessyBess · 03/07/2020 12:18

Skyliner001 You’re grand. A few of the places I have actually stopped using, I may not have used them often but I did use them now I wouldn’t at all. I just can’t boycott tesco, they are reliable, they know about the health needs in my home and have been great with making sure we have slots etc and I know roughly how much most things are etc and I’ve been using them every single week for about five years now (deliveries) and used to shop in store even before then. It sucks that they’ve donated so much to a charity I trusty dislike but I’m just going to have to deal with that because it’s one place I can’t stop using unfortunately. At least not during the pandemic. Any other supermarkets that deliver that aren’t supporting mermaids and the like? I can try and switch over at some point but at this moment in time I’m sticking with tesco. Also just recently got pet insurance with them fs.

MessyBess · 03/07/2020 12:19

Meant truly not trusty.
