Lloyd Russell Moyle back-pedals furiously

But this wasn't just an ill thought out spur of the moment tweet.

This was an article in a magazine.

He wrote:

"Recently, of course, we saw people like JK Rowling using her own sexual assault as justification for discriminating against a group of people who were not responsible for it."

He has asked for that quote to be removed, but the article was posted several days ago. Apparently now that people are asking for his removal from the front bench, he sees his error.

I had the unfortunate 'pleasure' of seeing Russell- Moyle in the flesh at a activist meeting in Brighton in 2018, nothing to do with women's rights or gender stuff, more medical based.

He is just as self important and insufferable in person as he is on social media, if not more so, he was also very rude and snappy towards another female attendee that was taking him to task on the lack of results on the promises he and the Labour party in Brighton had made.

Definitely came off as someone who looks down on women.

Didn't he make some ill judged comments about Israel a week or so after his JKR comments? I don't think this is purely to do with his misogyny (although that should have been enough).

Collidascope · 16/07/2020 19:54

"Unleashed a torrent of hate"
"Led to hounding and stress from which I need a few weeks to... recover."

I hope you're not weaponising your abuse and playing the victim there, Lloyd.

Kantastic · 16/07/2020 19:59

OMG. How stupid and arrogant would you have to be? One week after his colleague gets sacked for anti-semitism and he nearly gets sacked for being a turd in human form, he starts sounding off about Israel? I suddenly feel very sorry for Kier Starmer. If he appointed this unbelievably stupid prick to a Shadow Minister position the alternatives must have been dire.

wellbehavedwomen · 16/07/2020 19:59

He's bloody horrible, and I sincerely hope he's gone for good.

I do feel sorry for his staff, though. They don't deserve to deal with shit from less regulated members of the public, over his behaviour, assuming he's not exaggerating of course.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 16/07/2020 20:02

The self-pity is palpable. He CHOSE to accuse victims of sexual abuse of weaponising their trauma. These men really don't like it when they find the treatment they've meted back onto others dished back at them. His target was victims of sexual abuse, who've had that abuse foisted on them by men, and now find more men telling him how they are allowed to respond to and speak about that trauma.

A thoroughly unpleasant hypocrite who is unfit for office.

Siablue · 16/07/2020 20:20

As predicted it he was pushed. So he hates women and Jews. What a charmer.

I feel sorry for his office staff for having to deal with him.

Xanthangum · 16/07/2020 20:24

My favourable opinion of Kier Starmer continues undimmed.

DianasLasso · 16/07/2020 20:28

1. Moral high ground purposes - no point complaining about cancel culture if you participate in it.

Ah, but the glory of this situation is that I'm not the one going to be doing the cancelling. That'll be his fellow wokies.

So, though I don't agree with cancellation, in this instance I can both retain the moral high ground and revel in the schadenfreude of watching his mates cancel him. Win win.

DeRigueurMortis · 16/07/2020 20:30

Good riddance.

Labour need to seriously look at their vetting process for potential MP's.

Kit19 · 16/07/2020 20:43

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer beardy woke bro 😆😆😆

DidoLamenting · 16/07/2020 20:46

He would have ticked every box on the beardy- blokey - wokey- cokey Corbyn checklist. Corbyn and Momentum are 100% to blame for this apology for a human being being selected.
RedToothBrush · 16/07/2020 20:48

So he's created a narrative of the poor little woke bloke who was bullied. He gets to look saintly and oppressed on a move that plays to the crowd. Those mean right wing women of the press hurting his feelings. Burn them all.

But Starmer at least gets rid of a fucking liability on the front benches.

Oh crikey yes. Cancelling will always eat the cancellers. I believe the woke doctrine is that it's not 'cancelling', it's 'consequences'. Grin To paraphrase the words of Jonathan Pie - This is what you wanted, lads. Enjoy reaping the whirlwind.
TornadoOfSouls · 16/07/2020 21:13

Cry me a river Lloyd, you massive pillock.

RedToothBrush · 16/07/2020 21:17

It's quite something to unleash a twitter pile on someone by accusing them of weaponising their victim hood and then cry that you are the victim of a twitter backlash and that's really appalling and unfair.

Is this bittersweet irony or a sheer lack of self awareness and arrogance or just plain good old fashioned hypocrisy?

I'm struggling to decide.

DianasLasso · 16/07/2020 21:25

That Jonathan Pie rant was a thing of beauty, Floral.

BigBadVoodooHat · 16/07/2020 21:41

Right wing media campaign? And there was I thinking it was his own stupid words that made his position untenable.

What a conscienceless, duplicitous weasel he is.

His own hateful words, on JKR and other issues, have bitten him on the arse but rather than acknowledge this he’s claiming to have been the victim of a right-wing hate campaign.

Deceitful, lying coward. Angry

QuiteGood · 16/07/2020 22:25

Can’t understand why he was given the role in the first place. He was so clearly batshit when he was up against Selina Todd. It must be how he is in general rather than a one off. I don’t think that appointment reflects well on Starmer’s judgement.

RedToothBrush · 16/07/2020 23:04

I suspect there was some appeasement of pro-corbyn supporters going on. The role he was given wasn't the most prestigious by a lot shot.

Doyoumind · 17/07/2020 00:21

Why did it take so long for him to get pushed? The JKR article was weeks ago.

OJ is responding as one might expect. Of course, as OJ has told us, cancel culture isn't a thing though. It's just privileged people who don't like other people challenging their views and so they play the victim.

Apileofballyhoo · 17/07/2020 00:26

I suspect there was some appeasement of pro-corbyn supporters going on.

I thought that too. He didn't get much sympathy on Twitter either.

What a pillock. Still, those who live by the sword, etc.....
