Twitter has suspended me

Glinner · 27/06/2020 03:16

I'm really sorry to barge in on you Mumsnettters with my problems, but
I've been finally suspended from Twitter and I have a feeling they're either going to ban me or just take my verified tick. I've submitted an appeal with Twitter and the Better Business Bureau but I thought I'd post here too so people knew what was going on.

Recently, I keep being locked out of my account and forced to delete tweets to get back in. The latest tactic by trans rights activists is to run a search for any time I've used the word 'groomer', a phrase Twitter recently decided was Not Allowed.

This was not a violation of Twitter's ToS at the time I used the phrase, and I have been careful to avoid it since. I still use the word 'grooming' in various permutations because I believe that gender ideology is a form of societal grooming. It is a very real threat to the wellbeing of women and children and if our ability to name a threat is removed, it is even more difficult to fight that threat.

You may remember that Twitter similarly removed Canadian feminist Meghan Murphy. She lost her account when she said "that's him" about 'Jessica' Yaniv. Bear in mind that Yaniv was still going under 'Jonathan' at the time, and just as in my case, her crime against Twitter's Terms of Service was not actually an offence at the time she committed it. She probably never thought she could be banned from the public square for uttering the words "that's him". But that's Twitter.

Twitter has a high percentage of trans-identified employees and for some time has been silencing feminists and their allies who run afoul of its absurd 'misgendering' policies. The one good thing about my situation is that I'm in great company--Claire Graham, Meghan Murphy, Skylar Gwynn, Miranda Yardley, GNC Centric and many more, important feminist and critical voices who have been silenced for fighting a dangerous ideology that tells children it's possible to be born into the wrong body.

Anyway, that's what's happening. Please let people know it's entirely down to malicious reporting from the usual suspects and please keep watching my YouTube Channel and visiting my depressing blog. I'll also be available on Glindr if people from Twitter want to re-establish contact there. Hope it's ok to post these links to those destinations

Thanks for all the support, and thanks for letting me fight alongside you.

Proof of transphobia please @amijustparanoidorjuststoned

gamerchick · 27/06/2020 12:06

Well, I was always gender critical but I must say the calm and reasoned replies from all the first-time posters have made me realise that they're exaclty the sort of people I should be supporting and welcoming into female spaces hm

I know, right?!

Twitter is literally a toilet. I've no idea why anyone bothers with it.

gamerchick · 27/06/2020 12:08

I'd also like to see this transphobia. I have a suspicious feeling that it's just comments that don't fawn and agree with the agressive, spitty, suck my cock types but actually pointing that out would make people look like a knob.

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/06/2020 12:09

@gardenbird48

I’m a newish user but I fully support Graham in his efforts to amplify the voices of women in this crazy situation - I am extremely concerned about where this will all end up - the grown ups in government need to stay in charge. I have also asked a few questions on here which I think people have found helpful to the debate so would be grateful not to be prevented from posting but if it helps the moderators to manage the abuse from the trans activists (I assume I’ve understood the proposals correctly?) I will respect that decision and just watch the debate for now.
I have suggested closing the FWR boards overnight to new users, ie those that have just signed up, to prevent the sort of pile on that we saw last night, where MNHQ were not around to intervene.

Sounds like you wouldn't fit into this category @gardenbird48 Smile

12boo · 27/06/2020 12:10

OJ is adding his arsewipe opinion on Twitter

Michelleoftheresistance · 27/06/2020 12:10

Urgh that Mermaids gloat...Hmm

'Pride' weekend - I'm a lesbian, I'm someone who went out and marched 20 years ago, and it isn't 'pride' to me any more, it's shame and disgust and filth underneath those sparkly rainbows, it's become vicious and exclusive politics that I want nothing to do with. It's nothing I want to celebrate or be even vaguely associated with.

WokusPocus · 27/06/2020 12:10

Graham - thank you for all you do. It means a lot to me that you have supported this cause, and I can see how thankless and frustrating it has been. You clearly care about women and you have my support.

Thank you GinCake

Ginnyhip46 · 27/06/2020 12:12

So many of us support you, interesting how the trolls suddenly appeared here as soon as they found out you had commented here - there's many of us and as people see it more in the news with the ridiculous demands that the TRAs are insisting on, there will start to be a backlash and safer guidelines in place. I know it feels like you are fighting from a lonely place but it's the right side of history.

Nihiloxica · 27/06/2020 12:14

Thanks @Glinner Flowers

I guess that means people will stop suggesting I unfollow you because you are evil. Hmm

DomDoesWotHeWants · 27/06/2020 12:14

It's not as though Twitter are taking some moralistic stand. They are just fed up with the TRAs whining and complaining so, instead of telling them to piss off, they get rid of Glinner.

Pathetic.

ItsSummer · 27/06/2020 12:17

@Glinner

Oh, another thing that might have led to my suspension. and please do spread this about... I called myself a Wooblybooblysexual in my bio and said my pronouns were Woobly/Boobly
Love it!!

How can they argue that this is not ok when they’re spouting the things they are. Frankly the TRA aggression is scary.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/06/2020 12:18

You might have missed it, so just in case, the law has changed for #Trans folks. If you care to give the 2010 GRA a look, it's all in there.

Do tell us all about this nonexistent law made up of the GRA 2004 and the Equality Act 2010. Does it say that ignorance is strength?

Iggypoppie · 27/06/2020 12:18

Solidarity @glinner

When we were told "ok boomer" for pointing out child protection concerns then "ok groomer" was an appropriate response.

If twitter has banned "groomer" then what does it say about their values... that they condone grooming?

TorkTorkBam · 27/06/2020 12:19

Twitter is a nonsense place. The format encourages lack of critical thought and creation of echo chambers.

I am glad more people are leaving it, whether by choice or not.

I look there now and again. Increasingly I see parallel worlds of
(1) PR for people in the public eye,
(2) huge numbers of anime/ furries / MAPs / extreme-purity-spiralled-SJWs,
(3) some ordinary people trying to argue against, type 2 and commenting on type 1 - but fewer and fewer bothering.

I wonder if Twitter is going to fold suddenly and spectacularly.

It seems to me that law enforcement is becoming less scared of the new class of untouchables. I wonder if they are on the verge of swooping in on sex offenders like MAPs who are so helpfully organising themselves into echo chambers where they freely post edgy material. On Twitter they feel safe to be more open because, they have aligned themselves with the Twitter untouchables.

It feels to me like Twitter is at a point where real life is about to crash into it, hard.

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 27/06/2020 12:20

but I feel increasingly grubby and guilty for enabling a site that I feel supports bigotry

You should feel guilty

I think there are bigoted posters But if I honestly felt that the site itself supported bigotry of any form and i was enabling that I’d leave

MsLumley · 27/06/2020 12:20

I fully support you @Glinner.

JackiF · 27/06/2020 12:21

@Glinner
You sent me a kind message on here, long ago, I had different name.
Thank you for speaking up, you good and courageous man. Keeping you in our thoughts and hearts.
Flowers
It's only Twitter though, rife with frothing inadequate gobshites, keep it in perspective!
Wink

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 27/06/2020 12:22

Thank you @Glinner for all you have done for women's rights and for the safeguarding of our children.

BrewThanks

MMN123 · 27/06/2020 12:22

Post your twitter messages here. We will tweet them with #IAMGLINNER preceding each message

Chaotica · 27/06/2020 12:23

Solidarity from me too @glinner
Thanks for standing up for women.

And I agree @Iggypoppie - what does this say about Twitter's values? (Especially since they leave threats of violence up.)

MumOfAPickle · 27/06/2020 12:24

Another in support of you @Glinner

I’ve spent the last year or so watching in horror at what is going on in the TRA movement. It’s very hard to get my head round how seemingly intelligent women are supportive of any and all men who say they’re a woman having access to female only spaces. Surely you only have to think about it a little bit more deeply than “be kind, everyone should live how they want blah blah“ to realise that this will absolutely definitely be abused by people to get their kicks.

The JKR thing was hideous but hopefully showed some people what the issues really are. I feel so sad about the number of young celebrities who just come out with the bullshit without thinking about the damage they are doing.

I could go on for ages but just wanted to add another voice to the support for women’s and girls sex based rights. My DD is 9 and I will fight tooth and nail for her to have access to spaces, when needed, without male bodies.

rabbitwoman · 27/06/2020 12:25

Glinner, there is something very beautiful about your rage. It obviously comes from a place of deep respect and love for the woman that bore you and the woman that married you, as well as a concern for all women. I don't always agree with what you say or the way you say it, but you are amazing and a hero.

I have seen people question your motives for getting involved, but frankly, I don't care why you are doing it..... and it is easy to say you are rich and so can afford to stick your head up above the parapet, but it's not about that. Father Ted and the IT crowd are part of modern culture and as their creator, you have been revered and celebrated. Like JK Rowling, that's what you risked with your stance, and I bet that cuts deepest of all.

Well, I for one will ever forward be challenging bigotry and misogyny with 'careful now! Down with that sort of thing'....

"@MichaelMumsnet and Mumsnet Towers generally - I hope you realise that your policies around this are turning off huge numbers of people. I'm not a "trans rights activist", whatever that is. I'm just a woman with a kid who wants that kid to grow up in an inclusive and tolerant world. Among most parents in my circle (I'm in my 30s) Mumsnet is a running joke for something you wouldn't want to be associated with, entirely because of your support for transphobia. Please do consider doing some research about this."

Er, apparently you actually want your kid to grow up in a world of intolerance where all dissent is to be censored and discussion should be closed down.

As far as I know, Mumsnet just allows people to discuss BOTH sides of the issue. That's it. That's supposed to be a crime these days? Do sites also need censoring if they allow people to discuss both sides of the abortion issue say? Or they need to be censored if they allow people to discuss capitalism vs communism?

You don't want to be associated with a site, because it allows different perspectives to be discussed?

If you're so terrified of the other side being allowed to speak, how much confidence do you really have in your position?

That kind of intellectual cowardice is a very bad lesson for your kid I think.
