Great news. I hope they get the wording right so that the law is watertight.
Is there any news on making non-fatal strangulation a specific crime in its own right?

LillianBland · 16/06/2020 23:04

That’s fantastic.

This is great news.

ValancyRedfern · 17/06/2020 07:17

Yes! Good to have some good news. We'll done We Can't Consent To This.

Cuntysnark · 17/06/2020 07:19

Good news. Such shame it’s not retrospective.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 17/06/2020 07:21

Good news

contactusdeletus · 17/06/2020 07:22

Good.

Grasspigeons · 17/06/2020 07:22

Fantastic news

Oxyiz · 17/06/2020 07:38

About time.

It should be retrospectively applied, its ridiculous that men have been allowed to get away with murder. And that they've been given notice of how long they're allowed to still get away with it.

sashagabadon · 17/06/2020 07:50

great news. well done to the campaigners and the ministers that have brought and supported the bill.

TheThirdPigWasTooClever · 17/06/2020 08:18

Brilliant!

truthisarevolutionaryact · 17/06/2020 08:48

That's such good news. (awaits the arrival of the creepy poster who pops up on all these threads to argue in favour of women being murdered in this way).

MountainWitch · 17/06/2020 09:03

This is such good news. The We Can't Consent To This campaign came to my attention via mumsnet, hotbed of radicalisation that it is. Appalling it was ever used.

PurpleHoodie · 17/06/2020 09:05

What MountainWitch said.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 17/06/2020 09:06

About bloody time! Now are they going to go back and review the cases where some bastard was able to use it to get out of a murder charge?

PerkingFaintly · 17/06/2020 09:06

Very well done to We Can't Consent To This. Thank you for all your work.

And thank you MNHQ for giving us a voice in this campaign.

Babdoc · 17/06/2020 09:14

I never understood how it was a defence in the first place. At the very least, if someone ends up dead at your hands, you are guilty of manslaughter - you could claim it wasn’t premeditated, so avoid a murder charge, but surely manslaughter should still hold good? Or if you claim they wanted to die, you are guilty of assisting a suicide. Anyway, it no longer matters, thank goodness, and these violent bastards will end up with the long prison sentences they deserve.

Waspie · 17/06/2020 09:14

I was so pleased to read this last night. Huge thanks to the We Can't Consent to This campaign Flowers

Two pieces of pro-female news in one week - I am beginning to get dizzy on the rush!

Given that you can be convicted of manslaughter as a result of hitting someone with your car even though you didn't intend to kill them then it does seem to logically follow that whether or not you intended to kill someone during sex doesn't really make any difference other than whether the charge you're convicted of is manslaughter or murder. Either way they're still dead and it's still your fault.

Cabinfever10 · 17/06/2020 09:22

Thats a good start now we need Scotland and Ireland to do the same

RuffleCrow · 17/06/2020 09:40

I'm happy just thinking about this news reaching the area inside Jane Fae's "eggshell skull". Fuck off MRAs.

AnyFucker · 17/06/2020 09:43

Good start. It should be applied retrospectively and the punishments for men who used this defence be alteted aprropriately.

PurpleHoodie · 17/06/2020 09:45

What Anyfucker said.

Oxyiz · 17/06/2020 10:48

Yy @AnyFucker.
