Please help me with text to DIL

My son has previously bitten my head off when I mention the rights of women and the rights of trans women. I’ve only spoken gently about it, but he’s soooo woke it’s a definite conversation stopper.

I’ve never mentioned it to my DIL specifically but she is a crazy Harry Potter fan and self proclaimed feminist. Last night I thought “Fuck it” and text her how proud I was of JK Rowling and she was my favourite person in the world right now.

She has replied “Why?”

I don’t want to mess this up, if I can make her understand then maybe she can get through to my son.

Any tips?

@GADDay

You have issues. Expressing an opinion isn’t forcing that opinion on anyone.

Thinkingabout1t · 17/06/2020 00:09

Well done, OP! It was brave of you to speak out and I’m glad it has enhanced your friendship with DDIL.

GADDay · 18/06/2020 10:20

@Smellbellina nah no issues on my end. Sending unsolicited opinions by text to a family member is a bit odd and definitely falls into the camp of forcing your opinions on somebody. To say that doing so is good feminist behaviour is just batshit.

:) gawd, imagine GADDay in your family

Q. did you watch 'normal people'? wasnt it ace!
A. how dare you force your unsolicited opinions on me, you odd person.

Let me get this straight.

Harriet comes here and says women can be born with a penis and in the same breath confirms that she knows that's not a popular view here but says it anyway because science or something. And then chooses not to discuss why she thinks some women have a penis. And then when called out on what word a scientist would use to describe a female person chooses not to engage again? Liberal feminism is all about choices isn't it?

I choose to believe that a scientist would not behave like that.

Helmetbymidnight · 18/06/2020 13:05

perhaps she just identifies as a scientist?

I have just had a word with my lovely DW, who is a biotechnologist and biologist and she has confirmed what I suspected - women are not born with penises. She has also told me that no human being has ever changed sex.
This all came as a tremendous surprise to me.

Body dysphoria is a thing, and those people may well be happier transitioning so that they look more like their preferred sex. Many women wouldn't object to fully transitioned people using female spaces. To me being willing to fully transition is a permanent commitment to living as if they were biologically female. But they aren't born in the wrong body imo - they have a disorder which transitioning might help to treat.
I saw a YouTube video this morning on AGP which is very enlightening when you look at the types of aggressive personalities dominating the TRA. I definitely don't want people whose sexual fetish is performing womanhood in female only spaces. I think the twaw supporters are only thinking about the poor people who feel desperately unhappy as they are and not about the men who have no intention of transitioning but still want all access to women only spaces.
The YouTube video was by Rod Fleming and he said that it's like a switch being flipped and they convince themselves that they have always been female but when challenged on their version of reality, these men display narcissistic rage.
In all honesty I don't think many women would want the crazy types on twitter having free access to women's bathrooms etc.
I didn't agree with everything RF said on that video but it was certainly food for thought about AGP.

I think you deserve a drink andy I too am reeling from what your DW had to say and must take some sips of red wine to get me back on track.
