This is what TRA are circulating to act to the gender rights new this week

This is what the TRA are circulating. We need to act also.

CN: trans rights. GRA consultation.

(for those of you who need to conserve spoons and emotional energy at the moment)

(OP - I shared this from a lesbian friend who is furious at what she sees going on with some of her friends silencing debate etc)
If like me you are upset and angry about the response to the consultation and anti-trans proposals leaked in the Sunday Times a very trusted friend posted this regarding some urgent action you can take today and tomorrow:
"The Sunday Times article admits Boris Johnson hasn't yet agreed to Liz Truss's proposals. Liz Truss is due to speak in parliament about equalities this Wednesday morning. So Boris is likely being asked to agree to the proposals within the next 48 hours. The Sunday Times article is an attempt to push him to approve and to check what level of public objection there will be.
So get as many people as possible to URGENTLY call on Boris not to take forward any of these proposals by tweeting @BorisJohnson @10DowningStreet and emailing using the webform at email.number10.gov.uk"
[Zan: note the form is limited to 1000 characters for the response. Below are some suggestions of points to make from the post although you probably won't have space to include them all]
"Our best chance of stopping this is to make Boris Johnson feel it could be personally toxic as a legacy and a headache he can do without. If he doesn't sign it off, Liz Truss can't do it.
Get as many cis women allies as possible to complain that these proposals will harm them as well as trans women. That any tall woman, or flat-chested woman, or deep voiced woman, or butch woman, would be at risk of being excluded from women's services and toilets - there's no way for her to prove she's not trans - and men will likely use these proposals as a mandate to grope women's genitals on the pretext of protecting other women by checking if she has a penis.
Get as many allies as possible to also point out that these proposals would force cash strapped local councils to waste public money hiring toilet genital police to patrol toilets and demolishing long established gender neutral facilities from existing schools and leisure centres. What an atrocious waste of money during an economic crisis.
Try and get opinion pieces and letters to the editor by cis women into newspapers today and tomorrow. Try and get women's orgs of any size to publicly denounce the proposals as unnecessary and harmful to all women and girls, not just trans women. Get them to say there's nothing wrong with the way single sex services are currently operating and these proposals could even result in less provision of single sex services and closure of local authority public toilets."

@testing987654321

Actually, it's too ridiculous, even for people who think it's possible to change sex. I think it's been deliberately created to provoke an apparently deranged response.
I think you might be right.
TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 16/06/2020 10:51

and men will likely use these proposals as a mandate to grope women's genitals on the pretext of protecting other women by checking if she has a penis."

Some's spent a bit too much of their childhood watching Crocodile Dundee.....

In any case, what she's saying is that there's a bunch of people prepared to lie about their genitals, so we'll have to check them. Which sounds like rather an own-goal to me, a bit of a red flag to be so determined to get into someone else's toilets that you'll lie about the contents of your pants (not that it isn't clear for virtually everyone)

Dances · 16/06/2020 10:58

Uh-oh
I think this might finally persuade my tall, flat chested friend to get off the bloody the fence. What say you....I know you lurk, are you a woman or not, big lass?

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 16/06/2020 11:08

I’m just going to post this fantastic picture of Liane from Filia/Get the L Out. Words aren’t necessary to defeat this stupid argument!

This is what TRA are circulating to act to the gender rights new this week
SunsetBeetch · 16/06/2020 11:14

Ha ha ha that is batshit!!! God they are quite mad, aren't they??

HandsOffMyRights · 16/06/2020 11:14

Their stupidity is breathtaking.

SunsetBeetch · 16/06/2020 11:18

Surely Boris Johnson is going to read that and think he's definitely dodged a bullet.

FantaOra · 16/06/2020 11:22

Belcher came out with most of this tripe on Women's Hour this morning.

It's the best they've got. Shock

DeRigueurMortis · 16/06/2020 11:36

I'm inclined to let them crack on with that tactic without resistance quite frankly.

If they think that will stop Boris then they are deluded.

It only strengthens the argument that they are talking utter rubbish in every facet of this debate.

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 16/06/2020 11:36

How can anyone not see the inherent sexism in transactivism?

Women = adult human female. That’s it.

Michelleoftheresistance · 16/06/2020 11:50

It is more than just sexism, it's your actual male supremacism. Supremacism being an ideology which holds that one class of people is superior to others, and that class should be or is entitled to dominate, control, subjugate, and/or eliminate others.

I think I'm hardened to all this and I've seen as demented as it gets, and then I see something like the idiocy being tweeted on the Radcliffe issues that female people talking about their miscarriage or their rape, and how the disadvantage of female biology impacts upon their life, are responsible for male born people committing suicide.

The link between the two isn't explained, but as usual: talking about the reality of sex, the reality of the subordination of women on the basis of biological sex is evil because it upsets male people so much they might harm themselves . And preventing this is somehow a female responsibility: there's absolutely no reciprocation involved of male people fretting and taking responsibility for the possible distress and harm to female people from their talking about male life experience.

The insanity is writ large.

It's always DARVO with these fundame talists of the Gender faith. It's because toilets (etc) are segregated by sex, not sexist stereotypes, that we have sfa difficulty in knowing a male has walked in. The male having long hair and wearing clothing bought from the women's aisle are rarely enough to disguise male facial features, height, build, shoulders, gait, head size, shape and angle of legs, voice, male sized hands and feet, and most of all- body language conveying years of male-socialisation.

It's deciding that the female toilets (locker rooms, showers etc) are segregated by gender that would make it difficult for women who happen to be wearing a hairstyle or clothing that don't fit some other people's concept of femininity t

OneEndedStick · 16/06/2020 12:15

Sorry- my fat thumbs Android touch phone decided to post before I finished, and now I've lost train of thought.
But yeah, the overwhelming majority of us can tell sex from a bloody great distance, a sillouhette in the dark even. What's difficult, often impossible, which is Why the Genderists want SELF-ID made law, is seeing a stranger's inner feminine or mascine gender-spirits.
Otherwise adult human males with delicate, laydee-souls wouldn't be demanding SELF-ID to force their way into female-only facilities.

Floopsy · 16/06/2020 12:21

Ah. How nice of them to remind me to write to BoJo asking not to change the GRA and to ask him to clarify the law so it protects women.

Floopsy · 16/06/2020 12:22

I'll cut and paste my email to my MP too

Z0rr0 · 16/06/2020 12:36

I did send a message, pointing out that women had left Labour because of their refusal to protect women's rights. If nothing else that has to be a reasonable incentive to take the opposite position.
(I feel so dismayed and betrayed that the articles that speak for me now are in the Tory press and the party most likely to protect women's rights are the fecking Conservatives. FFS.)

MoleSmokes · 16/06/2020 17:14

From an internet search for some key terms in the OP, the only other place this document turned up was in a Facebook post by a member of Wavertree CLP (Liverpool) who has also shared it to a couple of Facebook Pages - and who is a signatory to this open letter:

"We support transgender inclusivity in the Labour Party"
www.thejeremycorbyneffect.com/jeremycorbyn/we-support-transgender-inclusivity-in-the-labour-party

FB post starts:

"Post shared anonymously from trans friends. This is a long post but please do read, take action and share if you care about trans rights

"Want to try to prevent the UK Gov progressing the anti-trans proposals listed in yesterday's Sunday Times? Here are my suggestions:"

FB post has 4 likes to date.

Shared to FB Pages (no traction on either of these posts):

  1. Insufferably Intolerant Science Nerd
Bio: "Science. Tea. Coffee fetish. Metalhead. Atheist. Woman-shaped Nerd. Queer as F**k. Must love cats. Sometimes I swear."
  1. Lizzy the Lezzy
"Lizzy started out as an animated lesbian stand-up comedian on YouTube. Actually it was MySpace, but who cares about MySpace. Then along came facebook, and well, this page happened. The intention of the page was/is to make ourselves feel better about our sexuality - to face it, embrace it and have a laugh about it."
  • - - - - - -

Strange result when archiving that Facebook post using archive.today - a Facebook Chat message was archived along with the page, stating that the person concerned was a "new friend". That person is neither my FB Friend nor a FB Friend of the person who posted the "call to action" on behalf of trans friends.

Archived on web.archive, which behaves normally!

<a class="break-all" href="https://web.archive.org/web/20200616154548/www.facebook.com/ScaryBiscuit/posts/10157335913288030" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">web.archive.org/web/20200616154548/www.facebook.com/ScaryBiscuit/posts/10157335913288030

If this is circulating as a call to action then it must be right under the RADAR.

Re-reading it . . . in amongst the overwhelming batshittery there are some worrying signs of sensible tactics!

"Try and get opinion pieces and letters to the editor by cis women into newspapers today and tomorrow. Try and get women's orgs of any size to publicly denounce the proposals as unnecessary and harmful to all women and girls, not just trans women. Absolute rubbish but spouted by a "woman's org" it might well pass as credible!

This a recent post on Transgender UK Reddit

‘
Been getting some advice on what we can do, PLEASE READ AND PASS ON.
So everyone, here's somethings we need to do.

Just been speaking to some more legal in-the-know folks and I have some ideas for what we can do about the GRA situation. It's potentially a bait to get us riled up so we have to play smart. I was suggested to pass this on to this group and in turn, we can all pass this along to every group who might attend any protests.

Avoid using TERF at rallys. It's been adopted by the people it most applies to and they make out it is a mysoginist slur, instead use phrases like 'people who exclude women.' That way they either have to show they are transphobic by denying trans women are women, or admit to mysogyny by saying they are excluding women. That would mean they would shoot themselves in the foot.

Do not get violent or shout abuse, it will only make us look bad in media that will be easily twisted to make us the instigaters and the oppressors look like the victims. We need to be smart. Especially on Twitter, I know it's a good platform to get angry on but the tweets will only hurt us in the same way people are rallying behind Rowling because of her sob story of death threats she hides behind when she's citing bad data and anti-trans talking points.

Stay cool and rally together. If we get the word out and show we are better people, we can avoid the kind of ward Populists are trying to make by having us fight on the front lines. They could only have leaked that document so vaguely to stir up trouble to justify oppression and take our rights away. Dont fall for it.

If we don't play into their game, we can't be made out to be the villains. We can however, let bigots openly shoot themselves in the foot. For now, this is the best advice I could get since we dont know all the ins and outs of the bill or even if it will go ahead, so lets not give them reason to. We have to beat the transphobes at their own game: be organised and ready to give them impossible questions like what they use on us to make out we aren't who we say we are, we can make them fall into prooving they are bigots.’

The comments are a clusterfuck!

Look at these lovely barrister chaps, ready and waiting to strip women of their rights to privacy, dignity and safety.

Hey, trans redditors! Here is a Public Service Announcement for you, should you be reading.

Female single sex spaces are for female people. The clue is in the name - ‘single sex’.

Sex, in law, is defined by a combination of chromosomes, genitals, gonads and gametes. This is how we include female intersex people and female trans people. Some people don’t produce gametes, some people remove their gonads, some people have cosmetic surgery on their genitals. None of that changes their sex.

Campaign for your own trans spaces if you don’t want to use the ones designated for your sex.

¯\(ツ)/¯

Michelleoftheresistance · 16/06/2020 17:57

instead use phrases like 'people who exclude women.' That way they either have to show they are transphobic by denying trans women are women, or admit to mysogyny by saying they are excluding women. That would mean they would shoot themselves in the foot.

The mind bending stupidity....

Look, I'll try it in really small words.

The 'people who exclude women' would be the transactivist lobby you stand with. As in excluding female people who cannot use mixed sex spaces .

TW are in fact male. There's no getting away from this. I'm sorry. The tooth fairy doesn't exist either, and we're doubtful about the Easter bunny. TW couldn't be TW unless they were male, this does not in any way stop them being great TW. But it doesn't matter how distressed a male person is or how they identify, they don't cease to be male, and some females cannot get undressed around a biological male . They just can't. They can't stop having these problems because they're annoying to you and to some males. And that's pretty damn misogynistic to expect them to, if you care about stuff like that.

You could try not being dicks about this and think about mixed sex spaces for TW and women fine about undressing in mixed sex spaces, and female only spaces for females who can't. But you're never going to force all females to be able to believe males change sex and just magic away the big issues to do with being female that make it impossible to pretend. Not going to happen. No matter how many times you call them silly names and be rude about them on Twitter.

Misogyny involves the letter 'i'. Double check your homework.

RiotAndAlarum · 16/06/2020 19:07

Thanks for the prompt! Today I wrote to Boris Johnson and my MP, supporting the proposals (including ban on "gay cures") and asking them to support Liz Truss. I wrote to her, too.

There were absolutely no mad genital police in any of my sensible letters. Grin

My DH and I are similar height (I’m tall and he’s short) and I’m large build (for a woman) whereas he’s small boned (for a man), same size feet and hands (roughly) so while we could probably fit into each others clothes there is not a chance in hell either of us would ever be mistaken for the opposite sex. His hands and feet are wider, my fingers are more delicate, my shoulders are narrower and slope more, the hips are some completely different.

In fact my brother and I look so alike facially that people sometimes ask if we’re twins, but his face is clearly masculine with a larger forehead, nose and stronger jaw line whereas my face is rounder and softer, my skin is softer and my hairline is different.

If these people think we can’t spot whether someone is male or female because they’ve put a bit of loopy on they’re more deluded than I first thought.

I have large hands, with long fingers. Once, I thought I'd be clever and try to buy men's gloves,in order to get something that would fit... only to find that even a small size was just too big. The biggest surprise was the circumference of my fingers.
