Hey up menstruators

Little fun activity for Saturday morning.
Do a search for 'women' on the Body Shop Website.

And...what was it Shon Faye said again? Oh yes. "Enjoy ur erasure"

I give The Body Shop till Xmas to go under.
I hope business undergrads use them as the classic case study in how to insult your customers and blow up your business during a global recession.

But 64 results for men. I feel like putting in a complaint about their transphobia. Men is equally exclusionary.

Shock

For once, I don't actually think that is about erasing women. For once, women are the default. The assumption is that their products are for women, they do men's products to encourage men to go in as well.

I would draw a parallel with football and women's football. They don't put men's football because men are the default.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 13/06/2020 11:45

Good grief! Now lets hear them claim that they're not eradicating women. What an unpleasant brand.

ChickenNuggetsChipsAndBeans · 13/06/2020 11:46

I find that so shocking. I cant believe how much we have already lost.

Gncq · 13/06/2020 11:46

Hang on though,
Isn't it just that the products are by default "for women" so there's no use putting that on the label, rather than anything sinister.

Gncq · 13/06/2020 11:47

^ like testing said

aliasundercover · 13/06/2020 11:48

I never use Body Shop - certainly not after their recent statement - but I assume that all products are assumed to be for women, except for the 64 that are specifically for men.

I don't think this is erasure, it's one of the few times that female is the default sex - unlike just about every other product/service.

Poor men, how must if feel for them?

aliasundercover · 13/06/2020 11:49

Ah, Gncq beat me to it.

testing987654321 · 13/06/2020 11:50

Oi!

HandsOffMyRights · 13/06/2020 11:50

Very short sighted of them given their customer base will be largely female.

Added them to my boycot list - they are ethically bankrupt if they can't see that females suffer globally because of biological sex.

Gncq · 13/06/2020 11:53

Victoria Secret results

Gncq · 13/06/2020 11:54

Eh?

Victoria Secret results

Gncq · 13/06/2020 11:55

Oh it did work.

My son who thinks I’m the biggest transphobe ever, for wanting to keep Male bodied people out of female spaces, thought you were making that up, so he checked. His face was a picture and he admitted that was ‘odd’ Hmm. Unfortunately he then went on to pontificate that it was be it was mainly products for women, they maybe felt that they didn’t need to actually mention women. FFS! Make blindness to female oppression, runs very deep within him. Sad

LillianBland · 13/06/2020 12:04

Oh look. Already people are using excuses as to why the word woman/women is being erased. 🤦‍♀️

TheGirlWithAPrince · 13/06/2020 12:05

I just think people like to find things to be offended about.

LillianBland · 13/06/2020 12:08

I just think people like to find things to be offended about.

I dare you to nip over to twitter and tell the TRAs that.

FamBae · 13/06/2020 12:09

I totally agree with TheGirlWithAPrince

Muttonindistress · 13/06/2020 12:13

I think your son has a good point Lilian (darn it) but I’m still tempted to write a complaint saying they’re excluding transwomen with their use of the word men. Just for fun.

BTW I got a letter from my GP this morning asking me to come in for a cervical smear and it called me a woman rather than a cervix haver. Yay.

BaronessRadcliffeFemish · 13/06/2020 12:15

I just think people like to find things to be offended about

OP didn't say it offended her.

I just think people (you) like to find things to make up about other people

BaronessRadcliffeFemish · 13/06/2020 12:17

I got the impression that OP was bloody fucking annoyed.

That's a completely different thing.

Ladybyrd · 13/06/2020 12:21

I just think people like to find things to be offended about

I agree. Oh the injustice.

DidoLamenting · 13/06/2020 12:27

I got the same results searching "women" on the Clinique site - no results and for "men" got the list of the small number of products specifically marketed for men. Women is the default. It's not sinister.
