List of businesses throwing women under the bus

I couldn't find a thread but seeing that BodyShop tweet to JK Rowling has me incensed and I'm fairly new to this so please can you list any other business that has thrown women under the bus in this whole TWAW issue.

I want to support businesses that recognise that women want to and can have safe spaces, they want their identity to remain (ie they continue to use the words girl, woman in their literature).

So far, from reading posts, I can see:
BodyShop
M&S
John Lewis
Waitrose

Thanks

My mum had a row with the man who ran the local hardware store around 1974. She died in 2004 and refused to shop there ever again. None of us were allowed to shop there.

Ninkanink · 12/06/2020 18:15

I boycott many companies. For many different reasons.

Primark.
Have male and female signs up but let anyone in.

Lordfrontpaw · 12/06/2020 18:17

I boycotted a store near to DS school because the woman told DS to 'give the change to your granny'. Now i know i was looking a bit ought that day!

Burgundy1844 · 12/06/2020 18:18

**That's women told. Again. Tedious.

No, just hoping you’d respond to the point and we could have a discussion, but that’s ok. I’ll leave you to compiling the list. Have a nice evening all Smile

Lordfrontpaw · 12/06/2020 18:20

Its a list compilation - discussions are elsewhere i think.

PurpleHoodie · 12/06/2020 18:22

Indeed Lordfrontpaw. This is a list thread.

Primark are problematic on many fronts

I'm sure Burgundy would agree with a boycott

Lordfrontpaw · 12/06/2020 18:24

It was Not funny!

isabellerossignol · 12/06/2020 18:25

When there are issues that might cause me to rank them in order, I'll choose the one that matters most to me. In my case that is the issue with regards women's rights.

Other consumers are free to make their choices as they see fit.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 12/06/2020 18:25

Burgundy I chose who to spend my money with. I chose who to avoid. I am allowed to prioritise the way companies treat women as the deciding factor. Other people can chose what they prioritise.

Yes, Amazon are very shit in many ways. Yes, my smart phone was likely made in a factory with working practices I don't appropriate of. (Though I'm guessing yours was too?) But I am allowed to say, THIS is what I care about most. THIS is my line in the sand.

You, of course, are allowed to make other choices. And I won't turn around to you and say, "what about x, y, z" because I'm not a tool.

Celebs are huge companies of course you should include them, they are a marketing product, not people.

Now ASDA.

Do they make their staff wear political badges on pain of being disciplinrd/sacked, or do they offer to provide them and give staff choice?

Lordfrontpaw · 12/06/2020 18:45

I don’t think they make them - I hope the staff have a bit of fun with them though. What a waste of money.

PronounssheRa · 12/06/2020 18:47

PurpleHoodie

I think it's a choice but choosing not to wear them would be difficult in the current climate.

ASDA are problematic anyway since they were taken over by Wal-Mart.
