List of businesses throwing women under the bus

I couldn't find a thread but seeing that BodyShop tweet to JK Rowling has me incensed and I'm fairly new to this so please can you list any other business that has thrown women under the bus in this whole TWAW issue.

I want to support businesses that recognise that women want to and can have safe spaces, they want their identity to remain (ie they continue to use the words girl, woman in their literature).

So far, from reading posts, I can see:
BodyShop
M&S
John Lewis
Waitrose

Thanks

Do these shops not realise - or even consider - that teen boys (and decent men) also don't want to be stripping off with women and girls around.

A few nudge, nudge, wink, wink "I'll strip off around a sexy hot page 3 type, I don't mind" jokes will be made at first, but teen boys will be thoroughly embarrassed to be sharing a changing room with an "average" woman on the street.

Decent men generally feel only comfortable with others real life/average life nakedness in contextual settings ie poolside, the beach, nightclubs. They don't want the possibility of daughters/wives/mums leered at through changing room curtains. In the real world; they just don't.

Coop bank wouldn't let womensplaceuk open a bank account because its a gate group Hmm
Tesco support Jane Faye who thinks women die when hit because they have eggshell skulls. I shop every week at tesco and have a tesco credit card. Once I'm no longer reliant on delivery's I'm leaving them

oh the coop - didn't they have a boss who was a massive druggie and into prostitutes?

Method worth knowing, I won't be buying their products

What's the Tesco Faye connection?

They bought into a campaign - can someone remind me - was it womans day or something? Well, they had Fae on the posters. Not a good idea.

It’s amazing how many businesses you’re having to boycott. You’ll be running out of places to shop Grin

**Claires - they have a little boy dressed up as a drag queen on their latest ad compaign which is awful for all sorts of reasons
Oh god, this gives me the rage! I'll never shop at Claire's again.

Nope - there are plenty places out there who don't shit on women.

Will you be adding the hoards of companies with atrocious records on human rights, unsafe manufacturing practices, exploitation of vulnerable people, appalling environmental records etc too? No, thought not. I wonder how many of you are contributing to this thread using your smart phone, whilst intermittently ducking out to order something on Amazon Hmm

Not really Burgundy. We live in Capitalist countries with lots of choice; not a North Korean rural Communist state with two shops.

Women overall mostly hold the financial purses (literally) when it comes to purchasing domestic goods. Food/clothes/furniture.

Women (due to Wifework) decide whether to shop at Sainsbury's or Tescos.

Not really. It's been an interesting experience for me. I have been shopping more locally and using smaller independent businesses.

@purplehoodie You’re right and with so much choice there are bound to be a few shops that are morally sound. Not really the ones you mention though.

Pronouns - local businesses are a sound bet as long as you can be sure where the products have come from. There are often horrors in the supply chain.

Uh no theres plenty of other places, even if every single big supermarket went woke, there are millions of small shops and farm shops that would enjoy our custom. Clothes can be bought from etsy/Ebay and the like. Other items like white goods and cars and furniture from many unwoke retailers. Houses well theres always a different estate agent should they also go woke.
This is 2020 not 1950. The internet is a thing, we can research to our hearts content for non woke companies, or better still woman centric companies.
Generally women do the buying of stuff cos its put on us as womens work. Therefore we can choose where to spend the money.

Good thing women hold the purse strings then, eh? Burgundy.

We get to choose which products to buy. I know.

Nice bit of 'whataboutery' from you there, too.

I dont want your life history. I want to know if you have flour.

@bananbixfloof Just be careful that by selecting shops or suppliers with a particular record on trans matters doesn’t mean you inadvertently support businesses with questionable records on other matters. But it sounds like you do your research Smile

Burgundy we do what we can to shop with businesses that don't shit on women.

You're right, misogyny runs deep and big companies can have shitty environmental credentials etc so it's not always a perfect science. But swerving the ones who actually advertise their loathing for women is pretty simple and a no-brainer for me.

It's good to know which brands those are so we can make informed choices.

The UK economy is down over 20% according to the ONS.

Businesses/producers NEED us women to spend money with them, now more than ever.

Ive been boycotting companies since the 80s. (those were the days).
I am a right pain in the arse when it comes to this. You cant avoid them all but you can avoid a lot.
