I think trans women are women.....

i think transwomen are women.

i think that women that are not transwomen need a special set of laws and rights to protect them because they are and have been subject to many centuries of oppression. They need laws and protections around childbirth and breastfeeding. they need support around menstruation.

women that are not transwomen will be susceptible to cancer of the overaries and womb, endemetriosis, and also respond very differently to some diseases and medicines

It would be very useful to put all these women who are not transwomen into one demographic category so that these issues can be directly identified and tackled.
this need not conflate with transgender rights.

Aslo, women that are transwomen will have been subject to a unique form of sexual abuse, harassment and prejudice. they will require specialist medical treatment to negotiate things like prostrate and testicular cancer within their own identity. they will respond very differently to some diseases and medicines.

It would be very useful to put all these women who are transwomen into one demographic category so that these issues can be directly identified and tackled.
this need not conflate with women's rights

i propose that for these purposes we could use the words 'transwomen' and 'women'

as well as 'transmen' and 'men'

is this wrong?

OMG just read the rest of page one I replied in such a fury!!!!

Sorry OP Flowers

WinnieLo · 02/08/2020 10:12

No, your OP makes it seem like transwomen are real women and women need some sort of complicated laws which would also fail to protect us even if they were implemented (no doubt there'd be great resistance because men and transwomen will both think first and foremost ''how do these laws to protect women affect me?'' and that is their preocupation first and foremost.

Men think of themselves first. transwomen think of themselves first. Women need to carefully guard the few rights to safety we have and not give them away merrily.

Everybody deserves respect. But that doesn't make you a woman.

FloresTorres · 02/08/2020 10:19

I've no humour left around this shit, after a strike
Like Monty Python's parrot, my humour is deceased. It is no more.
I see these so-called satirical posts, and just think, "fuck off."

Binterested · 02/08/2020 10:21

I don’t understand. Why start with ‘Transwomen are women’ when they are not and you don’t think they are ?

Thislittlelady · 02/08/2020 10:33

@bluebluezoo

What you said. I am a woman. Woman. Lady burn female staying female I am a woman. There is no other type of woman. Only a biologically born and unaltered WOMAN. I agree with JK. am so tired that this is a ‘thing’. Women are women. No one else are women. Identify how you want, but you can’t be a woman if your not genetically and biologically a woman. That titles taken. Everyone else of whatever persuasion will just have to find another title to fit their circumstances.

britINscotland · 02/08/2020 10:34

has a transwoman ever claimed sex discrimination in a tribunal and won? I'd be interested to see legal outcomes.

Giggorata · 02/08/2020 10:40

@Subsume

I get you OP.

But I’m now so heartily sick that I’m afraid I struggle even with the term transwoman.

Yep, me too. I feel pushed (or peaked) into a much more extreme position than I would have been if they hadn't turned it into “ the war”.
Lamahaha · 02/08/2020 10:40

"The problem with satire is that in this case the object is so completely nonsensical, so devoid of reasons, that your satire will be missed and people will think you are being entirely serious. They will stop reading, or get rightly angry, and likely miss the point."

Exactly this. I did not read to the end, I was so furious, so missed the satire.

We need to hold on tightly to the words girl, woman and women, I think. They define us and allow us to talk about the distinctive elements of our lived experience, like the impact of gender stereotyping in childhood (silly shoes you can't run in perhaps, skirts you can't climb or hang upside down in, or expectations of quieter more compliant behaviour). We need them to talk about our experience of female puberty, menstruation and the impact of the male gaze. Our experience of managing our fertility or infertility; the choices around motherhood or not, the experience of sexuality, of intimate relationships with others, our vulnerability to male violence and the way our lives warp a bit - or a lot - to lessen risk. We need those words to talk about bias, exclusion, sexism and patriarchy.

If we allow those words to be hijacked so they no longer define us, any other term we reach for will just as surely be purloined by activists who will not rest until we are a silenced, subjected, fearful underclass. If we accept the terminology offered us like scraps from what was once our own bowl, it will happen all the sooner.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 02/08/2020 10:48

It doesn't matter what word we use to describe ourselves as a group. The goal of the TRA is to appropriate membership of the group.
So we might as well fight for the word we've always used rather than engage in an ever shifting set of terms that confuse the general public.

TehBewilderness · 02/08/2020 22:26

Trans Women Are Women is a thought terminating cliche that seeks to erase the difference between adjectives that modify nouns, tall woman & Black woman for example, and compound words which change the meaning of the noun, Seahorses are not horses, hot dogs are not dogs, trans women are not women.

Pillypocket666 · 02/08/2020 22:33

For me a woman has a vagina and a male has a penis. That's it.

mummmy2017 · 03/08/2020 10:41
This is from 4 years ago. No swearing, no nasty bits, just that they are not women and need to realise that.
highame · 03/08/2020 10:53

She's still terrific

deepwatersolo · 03/08/2020 16:51

i think transwomen are women.

you can only think that transwomen are or aren't women if you have a noncircular objectifyable definition of the word 'woman'. Without defining the word it is unknowable whether a transwoman is or isn't a woman as the word 'woman' has no meaning.

Is the Atlantic also known as the transatlantic?
How can anything prefixed trans actually be the same as the thing it prefixes?

Fieldofgreycorn · 03/08/2020 21:00

It can’t but then you would have to call trans women ‘transmen’ or ‘transmale’. That won’t go well.

Pepper70 · 03/08/2020 21:15

yes, I read i like that too, I was a bit offended to be honest.

Too many words.
I'll keep it simple.

Transwomen are men.

acatcalledjohn · 04/08/2020 12:31

@midgebabe

No, transatlantic simply describes a transition from one side to the other, e.g. a flight or a vessel from the European to the American continent.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 04/08/2020 12:37

I wanted to show support for the trans community

Oh and you wanted to do there HERE? Hmm

Trans women are men. HTH.

BaronEssoStation · 04/08/2020 13:09

Why was OP's post at 00.47 removed. From what I remember it was fairy innocuous.

BaronEssoStation · 04/08/2020 13:10

Yes, fairy.
