Given the BodyShop have now decided to 'go woke, go broke', can we add other companies here that we are boycotting along with the reason why please?

Also the companies we are supporting and why, like Arla for instance. There are a lot of posters here who may not be aware of the history of some companies and their support/dismissal of women's rights.

It's a while since we had a current list. Screenshots would be great as evidence.

I'll start with probably the one most have heard of, Marks and Spencer, for allowing anyone to use the changing rooms they are 'most comfortable' in, even though this will make a great many of their female (and many male) customers very 'uncomfortable'.

The Traniban. Apt.

And do you know what I’m so done with giving a shit about the feelings of misogynists if this comment is deleted I could care less I will be using the term in real
life!

M&S also hid the fact that many of their stores had an asbestos problem.

www.theguardian.com/business/2014/jun/25/marks-and-spencer-employee-asbestos-cancer

The article is 5 years old but I have no doubt more people have died since then.

Crystaltree · 11/06/2020 16:50

L'Oreal just this week took back model, activist and 'educator' Munroe Bergdorf as some kind of a 'consultant' whatever the fuck that means. After sacking the same for racism not so very long ago.

Lordfrontpaw · 11/06/2020 16:51

They check several boxes - trans (check), black (check), known (check)

BlackForestCake · 11/06/2020 17:52

Known? I don't think the average person has ever heard of Munroe Bergdorf. Known for what?

Lordfrontpaw · 11/06/2020 17:56

I keep seeing their fizzer and I don't pay attention to celebs.

Maybe it was them speaking at the Women's March, or being brought on board to speak at a women's film festival, or was it spouting vile comments about lesbians, declaring themselves better at womaning than women with hairy legs, getting fired from L'Oreal and NSPCC...

SarahTancredi · 11/06/2020 17:58

Their documentary on what makes a womanHmm

Oh and for asking a lesbian to be removed after she asked why it was seen ok for a 10/11 year old boy to dance at 3am in a gay club while grown men threw money at him . They were right there to say its perfectly normal.

Lordfrontpaw · 11/06/2020 18:01

Oh I forgot about that 'documentary'. And I forgot about that child in the night clubs.

Ritascornershop · 11/06/2020 18:03

I emailed the Body Shop CEO (male) to say that after 30 years of using their products daily I’m no longer shopping there. Haven’t had a reply - has anyone got a Body Shop update? Do they have a response to the kickback?

Lordfrontpaw · 11/06/2020 18:11

ZUBY:
@ZubyMusic
J.K. Rowling is under attack for suggesting that only women menstruate?

We truly live in one of the dumbest periods (heh) in human history.

I never quite know if he is taking the piss thugh... But I bet he doesnt get a tiny % of hate/death threats.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/06/2020 18:19

I thought Birdseye was OK - didn't they just tweet 'potato' in response to assorted attempts to pressure them to cut ties with MN? Or did I miss something later?

As for Ocado, I thought they backtracked. I hope so, as they've kept us alive during lockdown. Blush

Lordfrontpaw · 11/06/2020 18:46

Oh Marilyn... we still loves ya...

‘I'm still with you beautiful @jk_rowling!! I have such love for you (and not the phoney showbiz variety either!!) because I know what's in your heart. 1st hand experience. And it has nothing to do with 'transphobia' either!! 100% ally!! 🥰🌟💛’

ConcreteUnderpants · 11/06/2020 20:54

I’m running out of places to shop!
I just don’t understand the marketing sense of pandering to the 0.001% of the population, whilst alienating those who are most likely to do the shopping and have the spending power?

Aside from the aggression and vocal vitriol of the Traniban (my new favourite word!)

McDuffy · 12/06/2020 08:59

no, they called people individually but wussed out of tweeting. I was a fully-paid up founding shopper (on their monthly testing of freebies list, no less). That's what made my mum pay attention to this cause, as she couldn't believe I'd stop shopping with them when I was so loyal to them, so she realised how important it was to me.
Porseb · 12/06/2020 09:52

So if M&S says their changing rooms are open to all, does this mean as women, we can all start using the men's changing rooms and toilets? Toilet queues for women's in my local one is always far far longer

SarahTancredi · 12/06/2020 10:30

I dunno. Police were called and the women were thrown out the mens pond.

Men get to keep their spaces

DivaEx · 12/06/2020 12:13

I can't boycott Body Shop as I stopped buying from them when Loreal bought them.

Cancelled my Audible subscription though. It's a shame since I have been a member since 2007 and really loved them. Oh well.

contactusdeletus · 12/06/2020 14:03

@OliveKitteridgeAgain

I am starting to wonder if there is a lot of pure envy at JKR's phenomenal success motivating some of these people. It's like they have been waiting to pull her down from her (rightfully earned) pedestal.
I couldn't agree more. Rick Riordan has been gunning for J.K Rowling's "beloved children's author" place for a while now. The woke teen crowd have been trying to manoeuvre him into her spot for the last few years, so I wasn't at all surprised he took the stance he did on this. It's his whole brand.

Despite the effort, however, his books are nowhere near the phenomenon the Harry Potter series was. And they're clearly derivative of Potter. Riordan just cobbled the bare bones of the Potter story together with some Greek mythology and cooked it in the usual vat of teen tropes. I'm not saying the whole wizarding school idea is blindingly original, but it's obvious Riordan was aping Potter. He's always envied her

MoltoAgitato · 12/06/2020 19:54

Oh fuck Method and the horse they rode in on. Hopefully Ecover is better :(

Lordfrontpaw · 12/06/2020 20:52

You can’t do better than vinegar and bicarb.

SpeedofaSloth · 12/06/2020 20:55

Clue shows a pop up on my tablet stating that they have an all female leadership team. Am I missing something?

ProfessorSillyStuff · 14/06/2020 14:25

Let's think about Weald School in Billingshurst, West Sussex, who say they don't want to be associated with Rowling's name
The Sun, who glorified her abuser's side of the story
Unworthy, which uses the dehumanising term "menstruator"

ProfessorSillyStuff · 14/06/2020 14:27

the BBC, however, stated in their article that sex is billogical fact and actually bothered to quote her word for word.
They then ran an article giving voice to domestic abuse charities denouncing the Sun's coverage. So I like the BBC at the moment.

ProfessorSillyStuff · 14/06/2020 14:32

From wikipedia: Natura &Co Group currently includes Natura Cosméticos, Aesop, The Body Shop and Avon
