Given the BodyShop have now decided to 'go woke, go broke', can we add other companies here that we are boycotting along with the reason why please?

Also the companies we are supporting and why, like Arla for instance. There are a lot of posters here who may not be aware of the history of some companies and their support/dismissal of women's rights.

It's a while since we had a current list. Screenshots would be great as evidence.

I'll start with probably the one most have heard of, Marks and Spencer, for allowing anyone to use the changing rooms they are 'most comfortable' in, even though this will make a great many of their female (and many male) customers very 'uncomfortable'.

I'm not sure I have a massive problem with transwomen being on the 100 greatest lesbians list although caveat I am not sure how female-born lesbians feel about it. But if someone has transitioned to live as a woman and is peacefully and happily getting on with their life as a woman then they should be treated as a woman other than in relation to biological functions and legal and social protections which purely relate to biological sex.

I think. I possibly need to unpick my thoughts a bit.

Clymene · 11/06/2020 09:12

On the one hand, we're told that no one expects lesbians to want to sleep with people who were born male and that is ridiculous, on the other, we have people being born male being celebrated as lesbians.

They're not lesbians. Lesbians are women who have a same sex attraction. Transwomen don't change sex.

FavouriteFightingFrenchman · 11/06/2020 09:17

Yes ok that makes sense.

SarahTancredi · 11/06/2020 09:21

I think Tesco being the sponsor of a list where they had no control over who is on it is scraping the barrel a bit tbh

When emailed about what a certain person on the list had said/done they were perfectly happy to maintain support. The woke points meant more to them than customers do.

I mean surely no one who tweets about how to wipe your hard drive , advocates for extreme porn or thinks most murder is boring as it's just domestic violence "gone wrong" has any business on a list of inspirational people of any kind surely?

SarahTancredi · 11/06/2020 09:33

Companies have no problem pulling sponsorship on here or pulling out of web chats so they a absolutely can remove support from things if they feel they dont reflect their values.

thisenglishlife · 11/06/2020 09:51

That was to do with anti racism - the customer was possibly racist

thisenglishlife · 11/06/2020 09:52

^ I saw something on Twitter about pg tips and Yorkshire tea? Anyone know anything about these as I’d not heard of anything?

I think the main issue is that, I'm not saying all transwomen do this, but it's common for lesbians to be called stuff like "terf bigot" for saying they don't want someone with a penis.

In fact, one lesbian was punched to the ground outside a gay club by a transwoman for saying just that. (I think this was in NY).

You see it online a lot (the aggression towards lesbians who don't want penis) and dating sites are difficult for lesbians because you need to weed out all the AGP lesbians with a penis.

The other issue is how wives of men who transition late in life are then expected to call themselves a lesbian.

Anyway.
Sorry for derail!

Gncq · 11/06/2020 09:59

SignOnTheWindow
Which one was the extreme porn advocate and which the domestic violence apologist?

Omg I just looked at the lesbian visibility list and Jane Fae is on there. Shocking.

Jane Fae advocates for extreme pornography I do not need to list the sorts of things "she" wants to be freely available.

This person is also the DV apologists saying things like women are killed because they have "eggshell skulls" (so it's not the man's fault).

Also calls women nasty evil terfs and other terms of abuse for wanting same sex spaces.

FavouriteFightingFrenchman · 11/06/2020 10:00

@Gncq that is awful. It never fails to amaze me that those purporting to be acting in the name of tolerance, freedom and acceptance can dish out judgement and hate so readily in the alleged pursuit of their aim.

FavouriteFightingFrenchman · 11/06/2020 10:01

Grammar fail: pursuit of their alleged aim

Coreblimy · 11/06/2020 10:06

I emailed clue in response to a couple of Twitter posts in which they blatantly missed the point with JKR's first tweet. This is the woke article they sent me to allow me to reeductae myself:

medium.com/clued-in/accessibility-and-gendered-language-at-clue-4b79a1dfc033

I use Ava women but you need a pricey wearable though to use it. Kindara is a free app, but like Ava is fertility focussed.

Generally I think the more fertility oriented apps seem to know what a woman is. It is hard to maintain that sex is a spectrum when you're trying to help your users create a new person. Otherwise the messaging would get very confusing!

WatchoutfortheROUS · 11/06/2020 10:31

Thank you, I will try Ava and delete Clue Smile

Thehollyandtheirony · 11/06/2020 11:09

Cheeky Wipes. I can’t remember the details- something about period pants for men. The shocking part was that the owner then got stuck into the comments section, bullying any woman who voiced an objection. I won’t ever buy from them again.

SarahTancredi · 11/06/2020 11:19

I didnt know about the period pants for men. Thought the issue was that the advert that appeared on face book was re written to avoid using the word girl ( was a first period box ffs) but the word was still used on the website.

I just bought from them Angry

In light of this new info I wont be back. And I just transferred my info over to 2 period apps I've lost alot by deleting clue as I cant face adding all the sleep/mood/symptom things buts stuff it. I only used the free part of the app anyway. Wish there was a way you could transfer it all over

mcduffy · 11/06/2020 12:16

I've stopped shopping with Ocado (was a big spender, that's what got me roped into this whole debate!), marks and spencer, and Always (for not listening that we don't want scented pads but for getting rid of the Venus symbol for woke points).
I also don't give to children in need any more because Mermaids are a beneficiary and Oxfam because of their exploitation of women in developing countries.

bogoblin · 11/06/2020 13:05

Bugger on the Cheeky Wipes front - I wanted their kit for my baby.
Going to go elsewhere now and put my own together! Putting my money where my mouth is feels like the least I can do right now.

tobee · 11/06/2020 13:08

Do you feel these companies would be going for "woke points" if "the woke" were (generally) over 60?

Surely they must be going for the woke generation to future proof their products?

Lordfrontpaw · 11/06/2020 13:11

I can't see SAGA trying this on.

nevermorelenore · 11/06/2020 13:13

The Flo app is a good free alternative to Clue. Seems to have more features too.

SarahTancredi · 11/06/2020 13:14

Well m&s tried that. Decided to modernise their clothing range cos all the over 60s would be dead soon Hmm course none of the youngsters wanted to buy it cos no one under 60 shops for clothes in m&s .

I hate this constant idea that loyal customer bases just arent enough. We mean nothing. They always think they can do better. And will risk it all for people who arent even remotely interested in shopping there.

grafittiartist · 11/06/2020 13:36

Just downloaded Flo- thank you.
The word woman was on the first page Smile

thisenglishlife · 11/06/2020 16:18

M&S are deluded to think they can entice a younger, trendy shooper. They have one or two decent pieces a season, which sell out fast. Never to be restocked.

They could easily design decent essentials for everyone, some nice holiday clothes and great work wear.

Lordfrontpaw · 11/06/2020 16:31

Think again.

I was one trying to find a pair of plain black trousers for work (no luck) and there were 2 people standing in the middle of the ladies clothes dept pointing at railings and lighting, and getting rather excited about the floor space and 'areas' (buyers, designers, who knows). Both dressed like Clem Fandango and Clementina Fandango.

I knew then and there I wouldn't find a pair of plain black office trousers.

thisenglishlife · 11/06/2020 16:37

Clem Fandango 😂
