Madamebutterface I read your posts earlier and I really sympathize, one of my children doesn't conform. I would just wait and see though, rather than go for hormonal or physical treatment that may be irreversible. Your guy/girl is still a kid. Maybe they could grow out of feeling odd in their body, like lots of us did.

Spartacus I’ve lost track of the Tavi process, but Sandyford is even worse than you might imagine in that you can also self refer or your school can refer you etc. They say it can be “useful” to see your GP first, but there’s no requirement.

Anyway, on topic, I’m of similar thinking to Melia. From what I can tell, the TW/TM who seem most comfortable with themselves are the ones who accept biological reality and assuming my DD carries on with her desire to be seen as a boy, I think it is my job to make sure she is grounded in as much reality as possible. So what might make her uncomfortable right now longer term as she matures, I think her mental health will be better if we don’t go down the “triggers” route and try to hide RL from her.

CaraDune

I was aghast at the fact that someone who is an MP didn’t understand that only females could have periods, have children, go through menopause and seemed to suggest that there are males who can do that as well

If someone who is being paid through taxes and is someone in power doesn’t understand basic biology. What else don’t they understand?

Getting back to the original political issue in the post, I for one am delighted that the SNP have embraced this crap.
I hope it infuriates their more rabid knuckle-dragging supporters into splitting the party - the idiot Wings over Scotland lot have already threatened to start a splinter party as Nicola and co aren’t offering another referendum fast enough.
Splitting their vote would hugely help us Unionists, as our (majority) vote is always split between Tories, Labour and the Lib Dems - which means the useless SNP get to run the regional assembly, assisted by the Greens, who are also irredeemably woke.

@Babdoc from my observations a lot of the cult like SNP supporters simply don't question or consider any specific policies but blindly follow the hate the Tories and the Red Tories line.

And it's not helped by the fact that it's quite scary to put anything on sm about this as the trans movement has done such a good job of screeching "Transphobic! Suicide!" at anyone who points out facts.

Mascotte · 10/06/2020 08:53

It's really bad as I am not able to vote for anyone in Scotland! I'm hoping Keir Starmer might help but we shall see.

KaronAVyrus · 10/06/2020 09:23

I’m hopeful that Starmer might be quite good but I’m concerned he’s another politician who is far too influenced by twitter (Sturgeon is a prime example).

@merrymouse
'menstruators' is harmful because it obscures the fact that menstruation only affects women. If we break down all the things that affect women into unique phenomena - menstruation, lactation, gestation, menopause - and pretend that they could happen to anyone, we make it impossible to protect women's rights. We enable sexism.

Just wanted to thank you for this explanation. I'm sure this has been patiently argued many times on this board before, but I'm relatively new to this debate and this has really helped me clarify my position. (Had a bit of an "aha!" moment!)
