Here he is again - sticking up for the side of rationality!!

The BTL comments are heartening too.

OP posts:
Lottapianos · 08/06/2020 07:00

Good for him. We need more men and women with a public platform to support JK, rather than calling her a 'twat' and telling her to 'get in the bin' like, say, Caroline Hirons Hmm

LaureBerthaud · 08/06/2020 07:31

I don't really do twitter but I've taken a look at some of the tweets attacking JKR and honestly - I'm aghast! Fine, disagree with her comments (I don't!) but the language used, the abuse ... how can they take the moral high ground?

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/06/2020 08:35

Caroline Hirons 🙄 there’s far too much worship of her.

SoberCurious · 08/06/2020 08:42

💛 JKR

Lottapianos · 08/06/2020 09:10

'Caroline Hirons 🙄 there’s far too much worship of her."

Couldn't agree more. I was so disgusted with her Twitter thread. She has four children (which she never shuts up about) and is peri menopausal (which she never shuts up about) but is prepared to pretend that female biology isn't a thing, just for woke cookies? Shes ridiculous

McDuffy · 08/06/2020 09:26

Did you see David Baddiel retweeted one of Jonathan's (super reasonable agreeing-to-disagree) replies? I thought he might be on our side... Come on over, David!

ShagMeRiggins · 08/06/2020 09:27

Caroline Hirons 🙄 there’s far too much worship of her.

Her skin care information is nonpareil. I don’t follow her for the politics, I follow her for the skincare analysis.

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/06/2020 09:46

Her advice might work for others but it’s not exactly worked for her if she’s having Botox. Her under eye areas very damaged/aged.

Newby Hands is very good, and hasn’t hidden her Botox to my knowledge. She was advocating sunblock every day in 1999, or NoySkincare on insta.

Floisme · 08/06/2020 09:54

I have never trusted a word Caroline Hirons has written.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 08/06/2020 09:54

I got pushed this in my 'morning news briefing' and the spin they're putting on JKR's perfectly reasonable and measured tweets is crazy - calling her 'anti-transgender' - when all she's saying is sex is real, acting like they're baffled at what she's got a problem with

Her Twitter post appeared to be responding to a liine that described the "menstrual health and hygiene needs of girls, women and all people who menstruate - ie. making it sound like she was being awful, picking the longer line from within the article, when it was clearly the headline of the article: Creating a More Equal Post-Covid-19 World for People Who Menstruate

Absolute fuckers the lot of them with their faux wide-eyed, determination to stamp down the woman asserting her rights.

Floisme · 08/06/2020 10:36

Anyway I got distracted - I came on to say thank you Jonathan Ross Sir.

And while I haven't read all 800-odd responses, it's very instructive to see the difference in tone - e.g. 'I'm sorry, Jonathan but you're categorically wrong' - compared to the batshittery directed at JKR.

zanahoria · 08/06/2020 11:28

I remember when he interviewed her, he is obviously a huge fan.

ThinEndoftheWedge · 08/06/2020 16:36

McDuffy

He retweeted this too:

*Dr. Jessica Taylor
@DrJessTaylor
There is nothing woke or progressive about tweeting a woman who holds a different opinion to you and calling her a bitch, telling her to kill herself, sending her memes of guns being pointed at her, rape threats & so on.

You can’t use misogyny and violence to back up ‘feminism’*

Agreed though I thought he would be on our side - if DB has drunk the koolaid - I’ll be gutted.

MedusasButterDish · 08/06/2020 17:09

The "Independent" provides an opportunity to compare coverage of a woman and a man speaking on trans issues.

Look at the difference between Jonathan Ross:
www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/jonathan-ross-graham-linehan-transphobia-lgbt-twitter-backlash-a9408776.html

At least that article quoted Ross's words... providing some sort of appearance of "balance" (compared to the numerous tweets attacking him and Linehan)

Now look at how the "Independent" has really gone for it with JK Rowling. Not content to report people calling her transphobic; they reported someone calling her a hypocrite about Black Lives Matters:

to subtly show she disagreed with Rowling’s views. [...] Leung used the hashtag: “#AsiansForBlackLives.”

The sexist double standard is as clear as day. Do they think we can't see this?

Lordfrontpaw · 08/06/2020 18:01

The Indy is one step along from the guardian. A load of twaddle. And Jonathan really needs to have a wee words with his daughter about calling women sexist slurs - since she obviously doesn’t understand.

zanahoria · 08/06/2020 19:07

The Independent is not really a newspaper, not simply as it only exits online but because it does precious little news gathering itself. It just buys in reports from press agencies and offers views on them mainly by lower grade journalists who just hack out identikit woke views

BringbackLang · 08/06/2020 21:49

He posted this not long ago.

Jonathan Ross - well done
BringbackLang · 08/06/2020 21:51

His daughters are quite foolish.

Lordfrontpaw · 08/06/2020 21:58

Are they trans then? I’d not why we they more qualified to decide?

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 08/06/2020 22:01

Wonder how he knew they were daughters & if he ever worried about them getting pregnant as teens Hmm

testing987654321 · 08/06/2020 22:02

They're not alone, are they? How many early 20s women are prepared to stand up for women's sex-based rights? I imagine they're under a lot of pressure to keep their dad "on message".

BringbackLang · 08/06/2020 22:05

Of course he knows it's not transphobic. His daughters appear to be intersectional 'feminists' who centre men and call women bitches for not sharing their lofty views.

saveeno · 08/06/2020 22:05

The amount of traction this issue has is totally out of proportion to the number of people involved. I cannot understand how this happened. iWhere did the influencing of Governments and legislation etc come from? But women will be most affected by the patriarchy so possibly there's the answer.

Time has come to be blunt and shut it down pronto.

Thank you J Ross and JK. Women's voices need to be heard.

Kantastic · 08/06/2020 22:06

I would just like to note the contrast between his daughter calling JK Rowling a "bitch" in the newspapers and JK Rowling saying "biological sex is real." And how one of those is apparently hateful prejudice and one of them is not even controversial.

Amazing how much lower the bar is for transphobia than for misogyny - or is it just that misogyny doesn't even matter to people?

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 08/06/2020 22:06

On a slight tangent, I've been watching Ricky Gervais' After Life series 2 on Netflix. Has anyone seen the episode (think it's the second to last one) where he (local newspaper journalist) is sent to interview the dad who identifies as a 9 year old girl? Very funny. And outrageous. And quite touching/sad when he chats to the man's daughter.

Warning: if you haven't seen this series, there is a therapist character in it who gets progressively more horrifically misogynistic each episode (Gervais clearly wants us to despise him) - but you might find it a bit hard to watch.
