One of those is the current resurgence of transphobia in the UK, much of it fuelled by high-profile and prominent individuals with large social media followings.

People on both the right and left of the political spectrum in Scotland and the rest of the UK have taken to social media to denounce trans women in particular, suggesting trans women should not be allowed to use single-sex spaces.

Many misgender trans women, say that only women who were born female have the right to identify as female, and so on. Other slurs include referring to trans women as "men in dresses."

These "gender-critical" activists have taken aim at many leading LGBTQ charities and media organisations, including GLAAD, Stonewall, Pink News, and the UK charity Mermaids, which supports transgender young people. Even the Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre has found itself in the firing line.

The author of this piece used to work for Buzzfeed. She specialises in posting disgusting lies on Twitter, such as that 'TERFs' would make 'revenge attacks' on trans people for 'TERFs' being attacked (which never happens, obviously), and excusing and minimising violence by transpeople.

there are 'live' websites all over the UK. It's Mirror group's brand for their online local newspaper content.

They only have 60k likes for Edinburgh, so not huge. But, from a vast local news outlet it's a little inappropriate as an editorial position, even on a local level.

And yes, it's a direct attack on JK Rowling, of whom Mitchell has said 'transphobes have got increasing emboldened since that TERF jackass JK Rowling used her platform for hate speech' (this was in January)

I wonder if she's just trying to drum up publicity for her publication tbh. Pick a contentious topic, subtly dogwhistle that it involves JK Rowling, sit back and then publicise any negativity whilst waving your TWAW pompoms.

You'd almost think that there were no transmen, or that their lives were easy and completely free of any issues, and that men never did any harm to anyone, anywhere

I believe she is married so it's easier for lesbians like that to be trans allies. She knows she does not have to actually demonstrate the TWAW mantra in the bedroom. It doesn't affect her. I think all of the older lesbians I've come across who are full on TWAW are safely ensconced in long term relationships so know they will never have to deal with a 'female' penis in their love life. Many people find it easy to support issues when they know there's no direct effect on them.

Edinburgh Live started off fine, but they’ve grown and become a site full of utter shit, and it’s clear followers are turning their backs on them when you look at the comments.

During lockdown they’ve posted:
