Change of namer here - Justine has contacted the GMB inviting them to discuss the matter. We'll see what they say. I have stopped my subs and left the union. I won't be a part of something that a) Cravenly folds to somebody who tweeted on twatter and b) I cannot trust to stand up for me and my rights because of my sex.

I honestly think we should form our own union. FWR alone probably has the numbers.

GMB Statement on transphobia
fiftyandfat · 26/05/2020 16:51

The labour party doesn't care about women.

TitianaTitsling · 26/05/2020 16:54

I still don't think l could trust them again- given how quickly they agreed with the TRA. I'll be sending back all the bumpf that they give out when they have all their stands and things in our hospital canteen.

Now that I'd be interested in.

Lordfrontpaw · 26/05/2020 17:14

Can’t mumsnet start suing? Surely this is defamation?

Needmoresleep · 26/05/2020 17:14

The tweeting on Twatter is so much more unacceptable given so many feminists have been banned.

The silencing of women is now so visible.

I looked through Alison Phipps' Twitter. She seems to have a real thing about white middle class women. Except to me Prof of gender studies would seem the epitome of white middle class occupations.

The weird thing is I would almost bet that:

  1. Not everyone on this thread self-IDs as white. In my experience, of the small sample of people I have got to know via PMs about one third are not white. A complete guess but perhaps MN is helpful if you are parenting in a culture that is different to the one you grew up in.
  1. Not everyone on this thread identifies as middle class. One real MN positive for me is to better understand how life is very different for those with different incomes. Some of the budget and debt threads have been eye openers for someone who is relatively privileged. And indeed why MN is a good place for GMB to reach out to people in precarious employment. To decide that MN is entirely middle class is patronising and ignorant. Is the logic that working class women are incapable of being articulate, interesting and funny.

Appalling.

They say they have listened to members - so they know the identity of those on twitter do they?

marvellousnightforamooncup · 26/05/2020 17:32

Twitter has a huge diversity of views on display including extreme left and right wing, people incite violence paedophilia and pornography. GMB still has a Twitter presence. Mumsnet has a broad variety of topics, is well regulated and although sometimes robust is respectful. It has a small feminism section that realises the effect biology has on women yet Mumsnet are the bad guys? It's just pure sexism.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 26/05/2020 17:34

Also need to find another union Sad

Lordfrontpaw · 26/05/2020 17:35

how does one subscribe?

LumpySpacedPrincess · 26/05/2020 17:37

I did it via a link in Maya Forstaters twitter feed.

Lordfrontpaw · 26/05/2020 17:47

Mumsnet - why don't you take PayPal? AMEX - I mean, who takes AMEX these days?

Lordfrontpaw · 26/05/2020 17:48

Doesn't flippin well take PayPal. But takes AMEX?

SomeonesRealName · 26/05/2020 21:04

Have subscribed

MrsNoah2020 · 26/05/2020 21:29

@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet

Can you try to make MNHQ see sense? Ever since MN set up premium membership, members have been asking for an alternative that does not involve sharing personal data. We are literally asking to give you money, and you are ignoring us.

I get that you would prefer a subscription but, sorry, it ain't going to happen because MN cannot be trusted with personal data. I would hate to see you go under, but I am not going to risk being doxxed by the next intern who decides I'm a transphobe. I would, however, very much like to support you, if you will give me a means to do so. Just set up a Patreon if need be, FGS - it's not that hard to allow people to give you dosh!

I almost wish I was a member of GMB just so I could resign over this.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 26/05/2020 23:05

I honestly think we should form our own union.

That is an idea I can get behind.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/05/2020 23:17

Yes to a Union for Women.

WTFSeriously · 26/05/2020 23:36

Twitter linked thread

This is an interesting piece of digging into those most vocal in harassing GMB over their MN link up.
