Pantene, Paris Lees and Women's Aid

Sorry if there's a post on this already, I've been absent of late! I'm not on Twitter either anymore, so if it's been done already, please let me know.

Has anybody seen the Pantene advert featuring Katie Piper, another female, whose name I don't know and Paris Lees?

The three are showing off their hair/confidence? in the ad.

At the end, Katie Piper speaks a link to Women's Aid.

I was shocked when I saw the ad. I think it's really inappropriate that Lees is in this ad on a number of levels, but how can somebody with a history of violence be featured? Especially when Katie herself is a victim of male violence.

I've not been on this forum for a while and am trying to word this in a way that won't get this thread taken down.
I'm sketchy on some of the details of Lee's past, but if my memory serves me right, there was a very serious incident of violence and I find this appalling.

Apparently it was a bloke that Paris robbed and he died a number of years (not sure how many) later and the family blamed Paris for it but no evidence to suggest the death was due to the robbery. That's from a friend who seems to know everything about everything.

HandsOffMyRights · 24/05/2020 09:14

Oh and describing the "thrill" of the robbery (in the article upthread).

This murder was committed in Oldham in 2005 by someone with surname Lees. There's no reason to think that the murderer's 16-year-old companion had the surname Lees, let alone that this was Paris Lees. All the evidence suggests that Paris Lees was living in Nottinghamshire at the time.

ShambalaHambala · 24/05/2020 16:14

@Ripx1jadefinch that article is from 2005. Paris Lees would have been 5.

OneEpisode · 24/05/2020 16:29

Paris admits to deliberately quoting different ages. But I’m pretty certain it is now 2020 and Paris is 30s. But 16 year olds are given anonymity for a reason? So we should stick to the article about violence Paris wrote as an adult?

HandsOffMyRights · 24/05/2020 17:57

Ok. Let's forget all the deletions, only being able to access sanitised versions of the past, and the accounts of the story MN readers have seen in the past, but cannot access now.

Let's go on somebody who, as an adult, boasts about the thrill, the buzz of the robbery of a person.

That boaster is then given a role in an advert promoting Women's Aid, an organisation that believes 'Everyone has the human right to live in safety and free from violence and abuse. Society has a duty to recognise and defend this right.'

Sorry, but no, this is not appropriate casting - and that is with me having to censor what I've, read, what we know, but have been forbidden from discussing.

Sorry, I mean, that's excluding what else I've read about. That which cannot be named.

I remember reading an article about companies who can ‘whitewash’ your online past. So if you’ve posted silly/dodgy things or done things that have been reported, they get out the Lysol and clear up your reputation.

HandsOffMyRights · 24/05/2020 18:11

I watched a programme, Lord last year about a female reporter (red hair, possibly a comedian) who spent a week living with, a right wing NF type guy in the States I think, who cleaned up his digital footprint.

Every account of Lees, apart ftom say Kiwi Farms, has no doubt been approved by Lees or written by Lees. Even a previous BBC recording that refers to violence has been removed.

I'm quickly getting tired of this new trend for charities and corporations to chum up for the mutual benefit. Cash for the charity, woke points for the corporation. Trans in there too now, as with everything else.

Lordfrontpaw · 24/05/2020 18:28

I remember it was on the back of a woman who posted a photo of herself pretending to scream next to a battlefield sign in the us that said something like ‘site of XX battle, please show quiet respect’. She got dogs abuse, death threats etc. The article was about people like her who were being hounded and how they could put the clock back on certain events and clean up other chapters.

As with all ideas like that - which probably start with a sensible idea (hide risqué student photos from new employers) - it’s become a useful tool for those wanting to rewrite chapters of their past.

EarlofEggMcMuffin · 24/05/2020 22:01

Hmm- why was your link to the Manchester Evening News newspaper article from 2005 deleted ripx?

PL appears to have been born around 1988/1989.

Ooh someone has been on the blower to MNHQ! Grin

HandsOffMyRights · 24/05/2020 23:40

I wonder why it was deleted too.

Violent males are pretty much the the standardized role model in the entertainment and advertising industry.

JB is able to make wry jokes about the allegations against her and they aren’t believed. But this thread gets deletions?
