Pantene, Paris Lees and Women's Aid

Sorry if there's a post on this already, I've been absent of late! I'm not on Twitter either anymore, so if it's been done already, please let me know.

Has anybody seen the Pantene advert featuring Katie Piper, another female, whose name I don't know and Paris Lees?

The three are showing off their hair/confidence? in the ad.

At the end, Katie Piper speaks a link to Women's Aid.

I was shocked when I saw the ad. I think it's really inappropriate that Lees is in this ad on a number of levels, but how can somebody with a history of violence be featured? Especially when Katie herself is a victim of male violence.

I've not been on this forum for a while and am trying to word this in a way that won't get this thread taken down.
I'm sketchy on some of the details of Lee's past, but if my memory serves me right, there was a very serious incident of violence and I find this appalling.

That's true Lord - there is a danger that past crimes can be covered up and also argued by those who transitioned that they were committed by a 'different person'.

Ricky Gervais does a sketch about Caitlin Jenner's transition shortly after a woman was killed in a car accident (CJ was not charged, I know) and there was a lot of media attention. We know about this as CJ is in the public eye.

I only know about the PL crime because it was reported on MN in the past, because Lees is in the public eye.

I think we are all supposed to give all the names we were known as during the period. But a trans person is permitted to omit earlier opposite sex names from the process seen by colleagues but is supposed to contact the service directly and supply the missing names. To keep it all confidential because otherwise no one would know they were trans.

Lordfrontpaw · 23/05/2020 15:51

😳

EarlofEggMcMuffin · 23/05/2020 15:56

SheSheHe I totally agree.
From the small amount of research that I did on the back of this thread, Paris' upbringing sounds less-than-ideal.
And going into a local toilet at 14 to be paid for sex acts with grown men is just being the victim of abuse. End of.

Again, the little research that I did suggests that Paris' crime was shoplifting for which there was a sentence of 2 years.
I didn't find any reference to any person being injured or dying as a result (and I would have a lot less understanding if someone did lose their life. Being abused as a child does not equal a life of criminality...lots of abused children make different choices).

Of course, not finding any references doesn't mean that it didn't happen and that the record has been wiped off t'internet.
It's difficult to do a comprehensive search without the name of the offender also.

Really, OldCrone.
Oh dear, that puts a different complexion on an ad that's linked to Women's Aid.

Ikeasucks · 23/05/2020 16:28

It’s an ad for shampoo and PL has hair

HandsOffMyRights · 23/05/2020 16:33

Thanks Old Crone.

Here Lees talks about the thrill of robbery www.vice.com/en_uk/article/5gkdz5/woman-on-a-naked-rampage-in-mcdonalds-paris-lees

Ikea it's an ad with Women's Aid which, among other services, supports the victims of violence.
Kelly Malone has hair, perhaps KM could be the next role model then?

Oh my, that article.
I dont know where to begin.

" The world would be a better place if you stopped reading this article and we all turned off our computers, threw away our phones, stripped off and went down to the nearest McDonald's or KFC and completely fucking destroyed it ".

Um, no love, the world wouldn't be better actually (the article was written in 2014 when PL was 25. PL might think differently now- we are all allowed to evolve).

HandsOffMyRights · 23/05/2020 17:14

It's poosible Lees is as 'old' as 35 so PL could have written that at nearing 30. Old enough.

Paris Lees was sentenced to 2 years for robbing one of Lees' clients. Given that Lees was then a juvenile (around 16 years old), such a lenghty sentence implies quite serious violence. I looked in to the claim that that the victim died, but could not find any evidence.

Wtf.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/05/2020 01:54

Is this just my iPhone, all iphones or what?

It's been the case on every iPhone I've owned (4)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/05/2020 01:58

Again, the little research that I did suggests that Paris' crime was shoplifting for which there was a sentence of 2 years.

You absolutely, as a juvenile, don't get a sentence of 2 years for shoplifting.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 24/05/2020 08:32

Paris Lees was sentenced to 2 years for robbing one of Lees' clients. Given that Lees was then a juvenile (around 16 years old

Abuser, not client - a person's subsequent actions doesn't excuse their abuser's actions.

DodoPatrol · 24/05/2020 08:38

Paris Green killed someone. Is that who you are thinking of?

ShambalaHambala · 24/05/2020 08:44

I've just watched the ad 3 times and see no reference to women's aid. Where is that bit?

HandsOffMyRights · 24/05/2020 08:49

No. Paris Lees. As pp said, you will only see a sanitised version on most searches.

The Katie Piper part is at the end of the clip I posted from the Pantene site.

OP posts:
ShambalaHambala · 24/05/2020 08:52

I'm really not seeing the issue here.

HandsOffMyRights · 24/05/2020 08:56

Here is the video.

At 0.24 at the end of the ad, Katie Piper says:

'No-one should ever feel afraid in their own home. If you need support, contact Women's Aid'.

OP posts:
ShambalaHambala · 24/05/2020 09:00

The original video doesn't have that clip on the end. They've taken their latest ad and stuck that bit on the end in support of women's aid. It would be different if it was Paris Lees stood there talking about women's aid but it's not. I just think you're reaching a bit.

If somebody participates in a violent act as a male and is then a 'poster girl' for an advert with Women's Aid, featuring a victim of abuse, then there's an issue, surely.

(Sorry, had to write that in a clunky way).

OP posts:
HandsOffMyRights · 24/05/2020 09:10

Actually, scrap that, if somebody participates in a violent crime full stop, whatever their sex, then it should not be associated with an organisation that is anti violence.
I don't think it's too much of a reach to expect the charity to have asked another person to have been involved instead.

And, watching the ad on TV, having not seen the Pantene ad previously, I'm not to know they've just added the Women's Aid part on to the usual advert. Nevertheless, that is the ad, the partnership on the website/campaign, Pantene and Women's Aid.
