She's not really on the side of women's rights in all areas - her views on women who don't immediately leave abusive relationships aren't what you would expect if she was.

A lot of people who appear to be taking the feminist position on the gender/sex issue aren't in fact feminists. They're coming at it from a socially conservative place. Zuby, for example - everyone was all over him for that tweet about TW in sport but he had RT Ann Coulter right at the top of his timeline. He's anti-choice.

She's so calm & rational Twitter is just so exhausting, I don't know how she copes. Over the last few days I've learned that women can have penises and therefore be considered lesbians. Lesbians who don't want to sleep with women with a penIs are just simply transphobic bigots and should get over it and endure said penis. Having a clitoris is having privilege (fuck me that's the first time I've been told being a woman is a privilege compared to the rights and safeties men take for granted). In fact having a clitoris is being cis supremacist. No mention of that applying to having a penis though. I've seen a man pretend to be pregnant & then pretend it was stillborn to have access to women's support groups. I've read all about Maya being sacked for saying biological sex is immutable and the judge at the employment tribunal summed up by saying her views had no place in a democratic society. I've seen toolkits to coerce children into talking about sex acts at an inappropriately young age. I've seen guidance from Brighton council saying that if girls aren't happy changing next to someone with a boy's body then they should be removed from the changing room. I've even seen NHS guidance stating that genital presentation makes no difference, if you want to go on a women ward, just say the word.

I think when you read it all over the course of a few days it really seems like a massive scaling back of women's rights and rights to safety and it's quite overwhelming. In real life I've now spoken to quite a few people and none of them believe men with penises should be in women's spaces which is a relief tbh. It does worry me though that a lot of this seems to go unnoticed.

Me too. If someone can define what a woman is then we start off on the same page, even if we don't go on to agree about everything.
If someone can't define what a woman is (beyond feelings) then, as far as I'm concerned, we may appear to agree about other thing but we're basically speaking two different languages, so who knows.

It does feel overwhelming when you first start getting your head around it all. It's been going on for quite a while, but unnoticed by most people, as you say.
Fortunately, there have been some significant turning points over the past few months, and more and more people are starting to gain an awareness that all is not as it seems in the wonderful world of 'progressiveness'.

I think some people have trouble distinguishing between

someone whose considered and informed views on a particular subject aren't feminist

and

someone who simply isn't properly informed on a particular subject, but who would take a feminist view if they were informed.

Giving people the benefit of the doubt until they have proven otherwise is always a good idea, IMO.

Having had a quick look again at her timeline I'm seeing three main topics: gender critical views, astronomical marvels, and religious imagery and architecture. That's a definite winner for me.

I think it will be helpful to stop expecting people to consistently agree with us on ALL Areas, or be a bigot. People can have a radically different opinion on an issue without being fundamentally stupid/bigoted/misogynist etc.

It disturbs me when people who are 'pro life', or against gay marriage are assumed to be right wing conservative bigots who must be shunned. Actually they often have very nuanced opinions which do not stem from bigotry at all.

If this issue means we get to know some people we'd previously have written off, I will consider that a good thing.

Do you know what? I actually don't give a shit why she's defending women's rights, I just care that she is.

I put years and years of my energy and passion into left wing politics who have demonstrated that they are misogynist to the core and will always prioritise men's voices over women's.

That's been a hard and painful lesson, but a valuable one.
