I have been lurking on twitter lately and noticed Baroness Nicholson has been very active recently. Amongst her tweets are quite a few gems - letters to Liz Truss, tweets asking for evidence about Stonewall’s involvement CPS guidance just to name two.

This tweet I found very encouraging too.

It is imperative to restore the rights of women.I foresee a single issue, cluster approach;we make a new Women’s Rights movement lasting one year, solely to rescue womanhood from its destruction through today’s legal and social denial of our existence.Emma,BNoW

She has today written to Liz Truss again but this time with her concerns about the gross misinterpretation of the ECHR in the trans toolkits used in schools and recommends that such toolkits are removed from use now. Such support is great news.

I will try to post the letter for those not on twitter.

I look forward to seeing what what happens next.

I don't actually mind ageing. I enjoy the new perspectives, I enjoy the liberation of not being of particular interest to the male gaze, and I particularly enjoy not giving two fucks. TBF the last is very much due to MN Grin

And as for the changes in my body, well, the problem there is not aging per se, but gravity. Can I identify out of gravitational oppression? I identify as transgravitational, and unless my belly lifts up off my hips immediately I shall take it to court for adipophobia.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 26/05/2020 18:54

Can I identify out of gravitational oppression?

Sign me up.

I don't mind ageing as a theory but I'm not v happy about the creaks.

Not directly Her Baronship, but a poll retweeted by her.

Baroness Nicholson also tweeted today I am setting my former plans to one side!! to work on issues such as repealing the GRC.

It feels like the sunlight is getting brighter.

OMG that's huge. So pleased, so very pleased to hear this.

It feels like the sunlight is getting brighter.

Bring. It. On.

ChattyLion · 30/05/2020 00:21

Yes to repeal!

Aesopfable · 30/05/2020 15:03

I think 'repeal the GRA' should be the starting point to the discussion now. Men are not and never can be women. That basic fact should be unalterable in law..

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/05/2020 15:42

Yes, I entirely agree

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 30/05/2020 16:45

This is a redundant law whose only original purpose has ceased to exist.

Repeal.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 30/05/2020 18:21

Repeal is the only option to me.

The Baroness seems to have her eyes wide open

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 30/05/2020 18:40

I want to give her a big cheer. She seems to have seen right through all the bullshit.

Bring it on. Repeal the GRA. Protect women's rights.

happydappy2 · 30/05/2020 19:26

Might I add that she is very quick at responding to emails-if you wish to raise any salient points with her-she's on it.

Lordfrontpaw · 30/05/2020 19:30

I just hope she doesn’t get to the point where she is just overwhelmed since there are so many fellow politicians who are just facilitating all this nonsense.

Lamahaha · 31/05/2020 14:07

Has this tweet of hers been addressed here? (from May 29th)

Colleagues, you will wish to see and - I hope - circulate thé Minister of Prisons reply to my question on rape of an Officer - it did not occur.Lockdown has affected their dates just as it has the rest of us but in the midst of Covid19 this matter is now a closed book for us.

twitter.com/Baroness_Nichol/status/1266409287485710337

Unfortunately, the letter ends with the words: Individuals will be cared for and managed in the gender with which they identify, regardless of their location in a male of female prison.

What on earth does this mean? I can't make sense of it. It doesn't sound good.

Aesopfable · 31/05/2020 20:08

‘It did not occur’ is a relief although ‘no cases have been recorded’ would be more accurate. We do, however, know women have been sexually assaulted and harmed by the government’s prison policy of breaking the Equality Act and placing men on women’s prisons.

Dreeple · 02/06/2020 13:35

The Baroness rocks, she’s a legend.

Michelleoftheresistance · 02/06/2020 15:38

She's nailed the PIE aspect. And she's someone who can't be gagged from talking about it.

Safeguarding, Baroness: if you're interested here are the parts of safeguarding that are repeatedly raised as having failed in serious case reviews: (a quick google will sadly find you dozens to review)

  • Failure to ask the difficult questions, where 'difficult' may be upsetting or challenging to adults involved.

  • Failure to think the unthinkable: particularly to question the motives, narrative or actions of adults involved, even when it's rude or angering to those adults to do so.

  • Failure to prevent involved adults and their wants and needs becoming the focus, confusing the agenda, and hoovering up the time and capacity that should be spent on the person or group in need of protection.

  • Failure to carry out necessary or timely actions to protect the person or group the agent was there to protect, due to fear of or attempts to manage the behaviour of adults involved, or to 'keep them on side'.

  • Failure to manage or withstand the behaviour of the challenging adults involved, or to have a policy, system or back up that provides effective boundaries to behaviours and protection to safeguarders.

  • Failure to act while hoping another agency involved would take responsibility for actions that involved confronting and dealing with challenging adults involved, while fearing to invoke that reaction themselves.

There's common themes everywhere here: how safeguarding failures happen, and how policies slide into being that are against British law, against the rights of others and are in themselves against safeguarding policy. Recognising and managing behaviours of adults, recognising grooming in all its forms and recognising coercive control in all its forms are some of the unrecognised, unsorted failures of safeguarding in the UK at this time. The dots need to be joined.

Winesalot · 02/06/2020 21:09

Thank you Dreeple. That is truly magnificent when even a month ago it would have felt like an impossibility!

A certain golfing ‘lawyer’ is throwing a hissy fit about Nicholsons tweets. He’s written to his mp! Sunlight sunlight.

Cuntysnark · 03/06/2020 09:40

Twitter are removing likes to some of the Baroness’s tweets. They’re on my ‘relike list’ along with tweets by J K Rowling and Janice Turner plus several others. I’m fuming. I wrote to the Baroness last night to let her know. Although she’s so razor sharp she probably already knows.

His MP is Dawn Butler!! You couldn’t make it up! I hope he publishes her very supportive letter - should be good for a laugh!

I wonder if that is something to do with them they limit your account - so last week I couldn’t retweet or like some posts or at certain times (so if o went out and came back into twitter I could retweet something). Maybe they ‘delete’ your likes and retweets if you are on the naughty step?
TheProdigalKittensReturn · 03/06/2020 09:47

What does the golfing enthusiast expect Butler to do, ban the Baroness from tweeting? That's not how the government works, mate.
