If you didn't know.

Just well done to everyone who noticed, who complained who did something. This is fantastic news. The law has not yet been captured.

I hope this has really positive implications for the Safe School Alliance challenge.

Sunlight flooding in all over the place! Expect a whole lot of pushback.

RubyViolet · 01/05/2020 00:14

This the start of the pushback. Well done !

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 01/05/2020 00:32

It will be interesting to see if Stonewall attempt to save themselves by pivoting back to their original mission. I don't see how Mermaids would survive any sort of serious public inquiry into all of this, given that what's being looked into is their core mission.

Aesopfable · 01/05/2020 00:47

I don't think we are near there yet. I think this CPS review will either come back slightly watered down but just as offensive or, more they will never produced a reviewed document.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 01/05/2020 00:49

I meant in the long term, it's going to take quite a bit of sunlight for the general public to get a grip on what's being going on, and then for their anger to have an impact on policy.

EmpressLangClegInChair · 01/05/2020 04:46

They’d have such a long way to pull back. I have no trust in Stonewall nowadays - they’re homophobic traitors - & I know I’m not the only one.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 01/05/2020 06:49

It's worth questioning why the much advertised EHRC trans guidance for schools has still not been published? We all saw the dreadful draft guidance they provided and maybe there was a realisation that, no matter how much they blustered, twisted, turned and shrieked transphobia, in fact the guidelines were actually illegal?

Winesalot · 01/05/2020 07:43

Maybe with the spotlight being well aimed now, all Stonewall access to EHRC chair due to past association will also be investigated to ensure no bias has crept in.

Aesopfable · 01/05/2020 07:48

to ensure no bias has crept in
Forget bias - there is wholesale sycophantic pandering to Stonewall's every whim. They are just another branch of Stonewall and Mermaids now.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 01/05/2020 07:56

Thank you to anyone that campaigned against this. Too much in our society has become about criminalising people instead of supporting people. This guidance would have discriminated against girls and involved the police persecuting girls / women who want to retain their rights.

Winesalot · 01/05/2020 07:58

They do seem to be Aesop, I am just wishful thinking.

Lordfrontpaw · 01/05/2020 08:12

Great news!

They will be planning their next move though. Don’t take your eye off the ball for one second.

DickKerrLadies · 01/05/2020 08:33

For those on Twitter, Baroness Nicholson is asking for evidence of Stonewall and GI etc being involved in producing 'damaging materials'.

Excellent.

Lordfrontpaw · 01/05/2020 08:40

I saw that. So anyone who works for a school or company who has been Stonewalled will have the leaflets and staff room posters surely? It’s all over the place. Is she looking at their accounts too?

Aesopfable · 01/05/2020 08:47

My impression of Baroness Nicholson's request was a reaction to an accusation against Stonewall (do you have evidence to back up your accusations?) rather than a considered request. I hope she reads all the information people are providing.

DickKerrLadies · 01/05/2020 09:05

I hope so too.

It's easy to forget that stuff we've known for ages isn't common knowledge.

MrsSnippyPants · 01/05/2020 10:22

The baroness does not have a researcher so she is trying to get to grips with this on her own. She has spoken out in the Lords about single sex wards and is keen to support women (she has already written to Liz Truss more than once and has offered to write to the Tesco CEO over the Fae fiasco).
Her most recent letter to Liz Truss was full of examples of the EqA being wilfully misinterpreted and was written within 12 hours of a discussion on her Twitter timeline about the lack of access grassroots women’s groups get to politicians and other decision makers. It was prompted by the fact that the GEO had held a zoom meeting with the Scottish Trans Alliance within a day of Liz Truss’s speech.

Winesalot · 01/05/2020 10:52

Thank you MrsSnippyPants.
has offered to write to the Tesco CEO over the Fae fiasco This has given me the next step from my snotty reply from Tesco after I asked for my complaint to be taken out of the 'transphobic/homophobic' box that they allocated it to (I did not mention anything about sex orientation or gender, Tesco did in their reply). I will send my letter to the Baroness to ask her to definitely take it further.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 01/05/2020 10:57

Wait, what's the connection between Tesco and Fae?

Winesalot · 01/05/2020 11:09

kittens

Tesco is one of the sponsors for the Diva awards where Fae was honored in their Top 100 last week.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 01/05/2020 11:10

Ah, thanks.

MrsSnippyPants · 01/05/2020 11:16

Anne Marie Scanlon wrote a letter on behalf of numerous Twitter users, might be a useful resource for anyone wanting to write to Tesco. Her timeline is also full of info about what happened.

Apologies for the derail OP.

Baroness Nicholson might find FWR a useful resource.

Ilovemystarter · 01/05/2020 15:10

If you look at the comments below the Faircop tweet about the CPS guidance, there are quite a few along the lines of “what, so transgender children can be bullied with impunity now?”
Obviously some of these comments will be disingenuous. But I suspect there are a lot of people who didn’t read the guidance & didn’t realise its implications. So I think these comments - and the lack of understanding - need to be addressed somehow. These people (some of whom will just be ill-informed) need to understand they’re cheerleading for teenage girls being forced to undress in front of males, not for kindness and justice.

Thinkingabout1t · 01/05/2020 15:58

Excellent news! Congratulations and heartfelt thanks to all those brave people who have been fighting for this. It must be exhausting and often discouraging, but so worth while.

I hope the campaigners are all taking a break and celebrating. Love and solidarity.

Star Wine Flowers to you all.
