Do you find the term/meme 'Karen' an insult?

This is a discussion I have recently read a few opinion pieces about.

Do you think it's indeed classist, racist and misogynistic to describe certain women as a Karen?

I hate it! It's stupid and mindless.

Yes

In the UK “Karen” was consistently in the top 10 girls’ names throughout the 1960s and 70s. So most women called Karen will be middle aged and likely to be of working class origin.

They are the assumed archetype for all the personal mockery - from hairstyle to posture to voice and age - that comes with this rapidly imported meme.

It is self evidently misogynistic and class-prejudiced. So many people who should know better using it though.

Force of habit, perhaps, from years of enthusiastically and unquestioningly lapping up the latest trends from the other 50 states?

The BBC clip within the article is shocking. One of the young women had a very posh accent.

Good old fashioned snobbery disguised as wokery.

Women are getting it every which way. Not just with the TRA movement. BLM. I also remember during Brexit a very PC person I know posted an appalling pro-remain article about 'white working class women' and their racism.

No wonder red wall voters saw Boris and Dominic Cummings as the better option.

I like Sarah Vine’s observation that what are all these sad middle-aged women who should “shut up and go away” doing? Yes, doing their woke 20-something’s washing and cooking them vegan dinners...

I had to wonder, do the young women in the podcast have mothers? I must say I would be pretty annoyed and hurt if I saw dd pontificating that I had to be cancelled because I am (well) past the first flush of youth.

I'm always amazed by how many of the allegedly anti-discrimination 'woke' throw it around. Apparently misogyny doesn't count....

It's meant to be, isn't it?

Peadarm, you'd like JK's recent Tweet: And to quote the inimitable Lillian Hellman: ‘I cannot and will not cut my conscience to fit this year’s fashions.’

It is blatantly used to shit down middle aged women and in such a way that any complain about said shutting down only confirms your status as a "Karen".

All the valiant attempts to find a male alternative are A for effort but none are comparable by some margin.
