The Golden Age of Mumsnet. Where did everyone go?

Where did everyone go? I used to be a regular poster on these boards but now I don't recognize anybody! Did everyone get banned for misgendering or something? Is it just me or has mumsnet changed lately? I don't want to fight I just miss the old gang.

I was going to write a whiny post about all this because I feel like some truly fantastic women have just disappeared. I learned so much from the women on these boards - they were so knowledgeable and funny.

Maybe it's Covid making us all sketchy as fuck but whenever I check in I see lots of sniping and straw manning and Not All Manning.

I found this old document on my computer and thought I'd share with you. It was edited from a variety of posts made by women during the last world cup featuring a fictional game by Team Mumsnet and Team Mermaids.

Thought people might like to share their fave threads here. I've copied and pasted the summary I collated of peoples comments below. Be nice if folk want to post some good stuff cos we are all a bit down in the dumps!

OP posts:

Thanks, OP, that was riveting. Grin

Melroses · 10/04/2020 23:44

That was brilliant.

These days, I no longer get the hang of a few names, then it is "all change" again.

Roolz, roolz then more roolz, bannings, banishments.

But football - I had forgotten about that Grin

Didn’t see the original thread but love it

Nah I'm no Esme Lippy, though I'm a Pratchett fan! You won't know me personally, I've been around a while but don't post that much and have namechanged a few times too (have reasons for wanting to stay anon at the moment). I think I follow you on Twitter, but I have a different name there too!

2BthatUnnoticed · 11/04/2020 00:43

I enjoyed that - thanks OP, and thanks to all the brilliant contributors over the years!

quite a few people have been moderated off the board.. some have said so before leaving.

Hope everyone is staying safe in these uncertain times!

Thanks for the memory, DJLippy!
The data breach by Emma the intern drove out the women who couldn't afford the risk to their deets of joining Mumsnet.
Witchywoo is gone, and many others as well. Some name change on the regular because of the targeted reporting.

Glad to see you back again.

BeetrootRocks · 11/04/2020 00:48

Tldr! Sorry

I'm still here under a variety of names since the fwr section was created...

I miss dittany! She was amazing Smile

FloralBunting · 11/04/2020 01:04

What's intriguing about that thread were the actual names posted and the thread still exists. The one the other week which made no direct reference to anyone but was side splittingly funny in reference to stereotypical 'femininity' tropes was deleted with a terse 'not in the spirit'.

I suspect the cessation of hostilities football match would not have survived the current climate, and may yet fall foul even now to retrospective reporting. This one will probably get clobbered too.

What a shame that is. Mumsnet women are hilarious. And I'm slightly gutted I never posted on that one!

Lippy ❤️

Visiting and reading or posting isn't the instinctive choice it once was. Sure viruslife has something to do with that but the seeds were planted well before that kicked in.

Pinning people down with extreme rules and forcing them to work within unreasonable language or opinion restrictions will only work for so long. People don't have the energy or the will to self-regulate to that extent. Obstacles of that sort don't help old-school formats like this. It strangles them.
