Peru has imposed ‘gender’-based movement restrictions

“Men can only shop for essential supplies on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays. Women can only do so on Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays. No one can go out on Sundays. Follow

for flight updates”

Imagine that. If the UK does this, could Pips Bunce go out whenever they wanted? What about people who are non-binary? They can never go out! Not even on Sundays which you’d think they’d logically leave for those NBs, given the odd number of days in the week.

Bloody transphobic Peru, I never trusted that Paddington Bear.

How about having the days of the week representing the Mermaids gender spectrum? If you’re Barbie you can go out Mondays, if you’re GI Joe/Action Man you can go out Sundays, and everyone else can place themselves on a day of the week in between that best represents their 1/7th of the gender spectrum?

I was just about to post about this, having read an interesting thread on Reddit:

www.reddit.com/r/GenderCritical/comments/ftw2m1/my_country_is_in_lockdown_and_to_handle_the/

I was curious as to which country this was, as it is not mentioned in the Reddit OP, so I googled, and found Peru as well as Panama.

Peru:
www.thejournal.ie/peru-gender-restrictions-coronavirus-5065369-Apr2020/

Panama:
www.businessinsider.com/panama-gives-women-men-different-coronavirus-lockdown-days-2020-4?r=US&IR=T

The Peru link above has this: Vizcarra added that security forces tasked with patrolling the streets have been told to be respectful toward the gender identities of LGBT people. Angry

“The armed forces and police have been instructed not to have homophobic attitudes,” said the president.

(Somebody seems confused about the meaning of homophobic, which has nothing to do with "gender identities".)

But back to the Reddit link: an interesting discussion on going outside in a world without men!

Lllot5 · 03/04/2020 09:27

But why? What difference does it make.

Lamahaha · 03/04/2020 09:27

I noticed also that every single statistic-watching website I've seen has
stats for the male-female divide.

What about all the 100+ genders?

Does Covid 19 understand that TWAW and TMAM?

Lamahaha · 03/04/2020 09:28

But why? What difference does it make.

None. It's just to reduce the amount of people outside on any given day by half.

NotBadConsidering · 03/04/2020 09:38

Exactly. How could you split the human race by two? If only there were two binaries with which this could be done easily...

If I wasn't coughing up a lung right now I would be giggling quite a lot Grin

The woman from Panama on the Reddit thread said that your day/time for going out was based on numbers in your ID card, which I'm assuming in turn is based on your sex at birth. She also said that there are police on the streets checking ID. So people have to go out with their own biological sex, or not at all.

stillathing · 03/04/2020 10:27

So in that context police sensitivity towards people who might dress differently is essential. You go out with others of your sex. And people should not be transphobic, homophobic or otherwise mean towards you just because you might look superficially different. Just how single sex spaces should be managed.

june2007 · 03/04/2020 10:35

So if you identify as female you go on the day the females go. I think people re making issues when there isn,t any.

NeutralJanet · 03/04/2020 10:48

No, I don't think it works on what you identify as, your ID card will reflect your birth sex and that's the time you must go out.

BahHumbygge · 03/04/2020 10:56

I read of a similar thing about air pollution control in (iirc) Athens. Cars with even numbered plates were allowed into the city centre on certain days of the week, and odd numbered plates on the alternate days. The outcome was that it favoured those with two cars (or encouraged second car purchase for those with the means to do so). Ditto with gender identities... it will just lead to the loophole of claiming a differing gender identity to one’s biological sex in these times. Availing oneself of two genders like having two cars in Athens.

Also, it disadvantages same sex couples... DH & I, in a heterosexual relationship, would have all the days of the week covered between us in case we need to venture out for supplies, a lesbian/gay couple would only have half the week to go out if they urgently needed something.

HorseRadishFemish · 03/04/2020 11:00

So if you identify as female you go on the day the females go...

You make it sound so simple. But what about non binary folk, have you given them any thought at all?

Heartless.

Lamahaha · 03/04/2020 11:41

No, they could both go out on the same day, albeit at different times, or at least separately. Nothing is THAT urgent, that you can't wait a day at the most, surely! (Or two days, if it's Saturday, as Sunday is closed.) I see that as a 1st world problem.

(from the Reddit thread:)

We have to use our last number of the ID to be able to go out (if your last number of your Id ends with 4, then you can go out at 4pm)

StillWeRise · 03/04/2020 11:47

the effect of this though would be that in heterosexual households, household members wold be obliged to leave the house on different days, meaning that the opportunities for exposing that household are doubled.
A better solution
if your house number is Odd, you can go out on M, W, Fr,
If your house number is even you can go out on tues, thurs, sat
no one goes out on sunday

OneEpisode · 03/04/2020 13:01

Round here big apartment blocks are no 100, no 200, no 300, with nothing in between. So far more odd street addresses. Probably more odd apartment numbers.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 04/04/2020 02:50

Bloody transphobic Peru, I never trusted that Paddington Bear

LOL! The bigoted little fucker 😂

AlexaCrowe · 04/04/2020 03:15

What if my gender is not male or female but is angeligender what day do I go out?

Goosefoot · 04/04/2020 03:15

Single people also would potentially have to wait a day to go out, so I am thinking they are not too worried about it, and in a real emergency you can go if you have to.

Sex works not only because everyone has one, but because it's almost always visible to the eye. A police officer can't tell by looking at you if you live in an odd or even house, or what year you were born in, but 99% of the time they will see easily enough if you are out on the say designated for the other sex.

fallfallfall · 04/04/2020 03:21

Excellent plan, simple to follow.

Lamahaha · 04/04/2020 07:08

Exactly. Also, just buy more for the days you DO go out. I am not too concerned with the "unfairness" to same-sex couples. The less we go out, the better, and I am sure they can find a way to cope with not being able to shop every single day.

Precisely this. Sex is the simplest and most direct method of separating citizens into two halves simply on sight and without paperwork, ID etc.

WrathofFaeKIopp · 04/04/2020 10:49

Imagine going out and there are only women and girls outside, what a pleasant day that would be, even with social distancing but then...
Along comes a big bad wolf.

Binterested · 04/04/2020 10:54

It would be interesting to know what happens on the men only days too. Pointless aggression and inability to cede to each other ? Women’s presence must dilute some of this behaviour I would have thought.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 04/04/2020 10:59

I'm sure that many queer/non-binary, agender folk would simply identify as they saw fit, depending on the day and none of them would do so in a way that meant they never went out.

WrathofFaeKIopp · 04/04/2020 11:46

But the mens day would be soooo successful. Imagine the posturing.

Lamahaha · 04/04/2020 11:53

Along comes a big bad wolf.
