“Men can only shop for essential supplies on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays. Women can only do so on Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays. No one can go out on Sundays. Follow

Imagine that. If the UK does this, could Pips Bunce go out whenever they wanted? What about people who are non-binary? They can never go out! Not even on Sundays which you’d think they’d logically leave for those NBs, given the odd number of days in the week.

Bloody transphobic Peru, I never trusted that Paddington Bear.

How about having the days of the week representing the Mermaids gender spectrum? If you’re Barbie you can go out Mondays, if you’re GI Joe/Action Man you can go out Sundays, and everyone else can place themselves on a day of the week in between that best represents their 1/7th of the gender spectrum?

Pip Bunce purchases a one way ticket to Lima...

The big bad wolf eats the grandmother, dresses in her clothes, climbs into her bed and pretends to be the grandmother.
Then when little Red Riding Hood visits her grandmothers house, the young innocent girl is fooled into thinking she is safe.

Fairy tales have meaning.

I can't really see that the men's day is likely to be so terrible, that seems a bit of a stretch. I've worked in a lot of 95% male environments, they generally get on with each other just fine.

Binterested · 04/04/2020 17:07

I’m sure that’s true when things are organised and calm. But not when everyone is under stress - like in a men’s prison.

Goosefoot · 04/04/2020 17:19

A men's prison is a very unusual environment, even more strange than the current situation, but maybe more it has a rather unusual profile of men - people who have been involved in crime are more likely to have things that make them more unstable socially.

Groups of men can sometimes work together very effectively in a difficult situation, you could think of military forces, fire-fighters, even civilian groups like search and rescue etc which can be male dominated.

Where i think you will would see a clear sex based difference is when you get groups like hoodlums that go around taking advantage oin riots and such, or vigilantes. Or even individuals doing things like break-ins when shops are closed. Young men seem to dominate those kinds of groups significantly. I haven't heard about that sort of group things connected to the pandemic yet, I have heard of a few examples of individuals taking advantage.

But in a social setting in the day with people doing shopping and such I'd not expect that - you might even see some older men inclined to reign in younger men being stupid, though our culture is a bit too individualistic for that to be well received.

He isn't wearing anything under his coat, is he? Flasher bear!

From i newspaper (cant find link for online)

"Transgender people in limbo

Panama and Peru have introduced rules that means men and womencan only leave their homes on separate days.

Campaigners say the rules have put transgender people in legal limbo, citing the case of a a trans woman in Panaama finded for going outside on a day reserved for women. ... "

Why the smiley faces? Regardless of how "gender critical" you might be is this really something to smirk about?

OccasionalKite · 05/04/2020 01:40

I'd love a day out shopping without any men around!

A lot of men are so clueless and barging and hectoring!

DidoLamenting · 05/04/2020 02:18

You seem terribly invested in this subject OccasionalKite - time for a little break?

CheriLittlebottom · 05/04/2020 06:39

Sorry Dido. I was entertained because apparently all trans women pass, and yet here the Peruvian police seem quite capable of telling human sex at a glance.

Longtalljosie · 05/04/2020 06:43

Bermuda are doing similar I hear, but with surnames - A-L on one day M-Z on the next (or whatever). M/ F is more sensible.

EmpressLangClegInChair · 05/04/2020 06:44

They shouldn’t be using ‘gender’, it’s not what they mean. This is about sex. And if you’re born with a penis & XY chromosomes your sex is male. Simple.

Lamahaha · 05/04/2020 08:19

Yes, because it's quicker. Why give the police more work in these stressful times?
You'd have to inspect ID papers to determine surname letter. You can tell M/F at a glance. Yes, even transwomen.

A tiny minority might pass, but for the vast majority it is obvious.

NotBadConsidering · 05/04/2020 08:58

Well, Natacha Kennedy and Mark Hellen would have to stay in on the same day regardless then Hmm

65,000 people in Bermuda? Do the police know everyone by sight?
If a parent and child have different last names, at different ends of the alphabet, are they not allowed out?

Lamahaha · 18/04/2020 14:14

Colombia joins in:
www.nytimes.com/2020/04/15/world/americas/virus-colombia-bogota-men-women.html?referringSource=articleShare&fbclid=IwAR05ciUunXUfiTkrZ7vYLCHJpWxa0xYTLgPGtOtll9aKsRY0I0_pFuSmr8A

However, transgender identities will be recognised:
Bogotá’s mayor, Claudia López, the first woman and the first openly gay individual to lead the city, has said transgender people can follow the gender with which they identify. The authorities, the health order says, should respect “diverse gender manifestations.”

EmpressLangClegInChair · 18/04/2020 14:53

So non-binary people can go out every day then? Stupid.

Antibles · 18/04/2020 15:26

It is a pretty easy rule to follow and police. Other than the problem of the special people who claim reality does not apply to them.

Do we know what word was actually used in Peru ? Sex or gender? Is it the same linguistic issue over there? Spanish I'm presuming but not certain.

I'm just imaginging how it would go if transgender or NB people complained too loudly:

Government: Everybody, you have complete freedom three days a week, just on different days depending on your sex.
TG/NB people: but what about us? This is a massive legal, social and human rights issue for us etc etc.
Government: Confused Right, fuck it, everybody on lockdown, you can go out for essentials only.
Everybody else: FFS Angry

Antibles · 18/04/2020 15:45

No need to apologise to Marguerita, OccasionalKite, it's not you.
