www.theguardian.com/sport/2020/mar/28/billy-joe-saunders-apologises-for-video-giving-advice-on-hitting-women?fbclid=IwAR3KmCc_lTUa7qv7qOWdZ4RiXfNXL5I7qfG-xaBd6zAQq4HP-wcU2G4SUO4

The WBO super middleweight champion, Billy Joe Saunders, has apologised after a video emerged of him giving advice to men on how to hit their female partners if tempers flared during the coronavirus lockdown.

Footage showed the 30-year-old, who retained his title by beating the Argentinian Marcelo Esteban Coceres in Los Angeles in November, working out on a punch bag. In the video, Saunders talked about how to react if “your old woman is giving you mouth” and “she’s coming at you, spitting a bit of venom in your face”.

The boxer demonstrated on the punchbag as he talked about how to “hit her on the chin” and then “finish her off”. Following a fierce backlash on social media, Saunders apologised if he “offended any women”.

Is this now inciting to murder violence, and is that not criminal? Angry

So he gave a non-apology, to women he might have "offended".
What about simple-minded men who follow this advice? What about boys who look up to him?
Well done -- not!

Wow.

I would never condone domestic violence and if I saw a man touch a woman I would smash him to pieces myself, he said, having just explicitly encouraged men to hit their female partners, and shown them how.

That’s ugly. And a whole heap of cognitive dissonance. Arsehole.

Coyoacan · 29/03/2020 16:24

The old banter excuse. I cannot see anything humorous in his video, but maybe that is because I am a woman.

StrangeLookingParasite · 29/03/2020 17:20

I seriously doubt he has the capacity for satire. He seemed entirely sincere in this hideous vidéo

DidoLamenting · 29/03/2020 17:24

Oh he clearly meant it.

candycane222 · 29/03/2020 17:36

What the actuall hell????? I would imagine a fair few men found this offensive too - to say the sodding least

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 29/03/2020 17:41

What an utterly disgusting piece of shit.

He should be prosecuted for incitement.

SeaViewBliss · 29/03/2020 17:46

There was another thread about this yesterday. Not sure how to link. A poster on there said she had reported him to the boxing regulator.

It isn’t the first time apparently. He’s been fined before for bringing the sport into disrepute.

Some of the comments on his tweets are so depressing.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 29/03/2020 17:47

Can he be reported? He's already been in trouble with the Boxing Licence Board, I see.

'A video of Saunders taunting a drug addict, offering £150 of crack cocaine to perform a sex act or punch a passer-by while he sat in his Rolls-Royce, was released on 17 September 2018. The woman punched a man walking past and a friend of Billy Joe's filmed the incident of which he then drove away from. There was no indication that Saunders had drugs in his possession, a second video then surfaced of him calling another woman "a prostitute", and stating "we dont wanna get the clap off you."

The General Secretary of the British Boxing Board of Control, Robert Smith, responded: "I have just seen the videos and I can tell you we find it disgusting. I am speaking to members of the board now. I am keen to get on with this as soon as possible." The incidents were investigated.[122][123] And the BBBofC found Saunders 'guilty of bringing the sport into disrepute', issued Saunders a severe reprimand and fined him £100,000.[124] '

This is the body that awards licenses? I don't know anything about boxing, don't know if that's enough to have his license revoked.

  • by which I mean, of course he should have his license revoked, I feel that he should also face charges for incitement to violence.
Michelleoftheresistance · 29/03/2020 17:51

That should be reportable to the police. Considering they all run around like the keystone cops at correct sexing this ought to get them interested.

I highly doubt this revolting individual has an 'old woman' or indeed any female of any description prepared to enter into a relationship with him. Incel is writ large.

DidoLamenting · 29/03/2020 17:59

What the actuall hell????? I would imagine a fair few men found this offensive too - to say the sodding least

That point has been made on the comments section of The Daily Mail.

For this sort of thing I usually check to see what the Mail makes of it- it's universal condemnation. Nobody believes it was a joke.

He appears not to be in a relationship at the moment but has been in the past and has 3 children.

HorseRadishFemish · 29/03/2020 19:14

Great big bowl of cogdiss right there.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 30/03/2020 09:11

I would never condone domestic violence

You did, though. Granted that he's been hit in the head a lot and that tends to cause cumulative brain damage, but does he not realize that once something is on the internet it's there forever? Get one link deleted and 100 others remain.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 30/03/2020 09:34

And the men in the Twitter thread who were defending him! 🤯

Michael Conraoi gave a few of them a good dressing down.

I think Saunders has deleted his Twitter account now.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 30/03/2020 09:40

Birds of a feather, etc.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 30/03/2020 10:26

Quite.

And there was I thinking that the whole debacle was pretty cut and dried.

RoyalCorgi · 30/03/2020 10:32

It's clear incitement to murder. Has anyone reported this to the police?

It's a strange old world where misgendering someone results in a criminal conviction, but encouraging a man to kill his wife isn't even recorded as a "hate incident".

showmethegin · 30/03/2020 14:48

He's lost his licence!! Just had a news update. Brilliant news

Lordfrontpaw · 30/03/2020 15:00

He appears not to be in a relationship at the moment but has been in the past and has 3 children.

No surprise on point 1 - but does he also use these techniques to 'shut up whining kids'?

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 30/03/2020 15:02

The cynic in me wonders if this suspension will last longer than a slap on the wrist, but its better than nothing. What a foul piece of human excrement that man is. Can you even imagine if he'd made this "joke" about any other protected characteristic? Heres hoping his liscence is permanently removed (and that his career is destroyed and his wife and all his friends leave him).

Lordfrontpaw · 30/03/2020 15:03

I hope his mammy has a wee word with him.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 30/03/2020 15:18

License is one thing. Is anyone going to charge him with incitement?

WhereYouLeftIt · 30/03/2020 15:29

Just came across the story on the BBC website:
www.bbc.co.uk/sport/boxing/52092520

It contains a link to an earlier (2018) story on Saunders, where he was fined £100,000 by the boxing board for what police described as a "sickening" video "in which he tells a woman he will give her £150 worth of drugs to perform a sex act."

He got a severe reprimand (as well as the fine) for that, so I think the suspension may well be lengthy; bringing the sport into disrepute repeatedly is unlikely to be looked on too kindly.
